A Level Results Day - Eeek

Do the many that always say "blah, they're not important, university is" not realise the same redundant thing can be said for university versus a subsequent job?

I'd disagree with those who say A-Levels aren't useful. I think it depends what subjects you choose. There are such high demands for grades currently, that it's tempting to pick your strongest subjects - but they might not be useful later on.

When I got to 6th Form, I ditched all the subjects I had previously studied, and took completely new ones. I ended up with:
A - ICT
B - General Studies
C - Economics
C - Business Studies

Apart from General Studies, I use all the others every day. Although I went on to get a computing degree and become a Web Application Developer, having that extra business knowledge makes me stand out from the crowd - I feel I'm much more likely to get a promotion than those who are plain nerds.

yes of course, but getting a good job is far more important and far more difficult than getting into Uni, and when you go from one job to another, your degree will still be taken into consideration.

just got up and waited about an hour for the ucas page to load! got in to my first choice though, massive sigh of relief! good luck to everyone!

Good luck to everyone today! My GF gets her results today and she is really nervous.

I never did A-Levels as i went straight to college to do a BTEC National Diploma in Software Development which i HATED, but determined to get a good grade when leaving college i decided to do the Higher National Diploma in ICT System Support afterwards which i got a MUCH better grade in.

Now i'm working as a Support Technician for a global company. So the BTEC is not a waste of time at all. If your going to do IT, go to College not 6th form.

I'm doing a BTEC National Diploma course this year so don't get my results today. But I also retook a GCSE this year and was hoping to get my result for that...turns out I don't get it until next week :(

Good luck to all the folks actually getting results though :)

My eldest just rang us with his results, he got 3 As (A's in all 6 modules of Maths and Biology apparently) and his place at Imperial for Biology has been confirmed:) ;proud:

Good luck all:)

Well off you go and try and get a job on Pricewaterhousecoopers grad scheme without good A levels then. You won't even be allowed to fill the form out.

Fact: Most multinational employers have a UCAS point requirement for grad schemes.
Indeed, my friend has a first class degree from University of Bristol and can't fill out some law applications as he didn't get ABB at A level. I've even seen some forms which require AAB, it's very silly.
