I will call and see if I can get more information. and will post here. this seems to be the place to keep everyone informed about it.

in reply to a question about the release of 0311

I was a little late checking my yahoo mail, anyway Stuart, I revieved an email from Gary Key from Anandtech, he told me nothing funny was going on at the time they released the bios before DH was given permission to do so, Anandtech have a good working relationship with Asus, and were given permission by them to post the bios at the time they did.

Although it seems irrelevant and is straight over my head and most probably yours, a lot of people read this thread, I suppose it should be clear that nothing was done by Anantech without the prior consent of Asus.

The only issue at the time, and still as we speak is the squealing memory, as luck would have it (for people like me), anandtech's moboard suffers from the issue too. They have found that the corsair module's they have, make the noise, they also tried some mushkins and they don't make the noise. Whether or not Asus will follow up on this at this point is still in question, we'll have to wait and see, until the official release.

Gary's exhausted at the moment and is not posting on the website as he'll probably get bogged with questions.

No offence intended from any party ofcourse, I think it needed to be cleared up, so that no-one gets the wrong impression of Anandtech's ethics.

BTW I offer my sincere gratitude to Anandtech and Driverheaven for their support, we could not have achieved this without them. I look forwards to their reviews in the future, I think we have all learned something from this, and are hopefully wiser for it............

Secondly I thank Stuart for suggesting the contact of Anandtech in the first place, we have achieved quite a lot this week, I've never known such a fast turn around........

a further update I paste Gary's message direct, in case anyone is having issues after the beta 311 bios update, please e-mail them directly to Gary Key, this is for the benefit of all, as things are still premature, we know BF2 works, but things may still be random for some.

"Hi Raja,

Apparently I will not be able to post on the website for the time being
so if anyone has issues, please have them write to me directly. I
assure you and the rest of the group we will address the issues with
Asus. I can get one system here to operate without any issues by
simply
utilizing Infineon memory and the AMD X2 driver and not the MS patch
along with the ULi 2.13 SATA drivers. I have to say this was an
interesting experience as you either had the issue or did not. I will
say the X2s seemed to be the common theme along with non-E single cores
in most of the regression testing but the Opteron and FX60 were fine.
I am still working on the Corsair 3500PRO noise issue. It does not
happen when utilizing the SI SATA ports, only with the ULi SATA ports.

later,
Gary"

Usually down to boot order, make sure your boot drive is on sata 0 and boot order is set to sata 0

:D

Hi, its not that. First sata connector is 1. set to sata in the bios and pata emulation. Boot device is the Raptor after cdrom. Copies files but when it reboots it halts.

It will be something stupid I know but I'm obviously missing it!

raja,

Its not just the 3500llpro that makes the noise

I tried 2 other brands of corsair memory and they did the same

Just to note , this is a different issue than the board squeeling that i have RMA'd

I think all 3 use infineon chips all though im not 100% sure on the 3500LL

I have noticed other users with no noise at all, using 3500LL, so its a bit hit and miss at the moment,

I will be able to tell you better tomorrow when i get my replacement

Hi,

Could you please send me the memory part numbers and DRAM bios settings that are causing your noise issue. I will see if we can replicate it. I know we have an issue with some of the BH5 based modules but not all. We have a user testing Samsung UCCC this evening with the 0311 bios and 4800+ utilizing the ULi SATA controller and not the SI 3132.

Thank you.

just thought I'd check the asus site this morning, and they still have not added the new bios, which may be a good thing as it means they are waiting for reports before being hasty.

Gary I'll post my 3500LL part no's this evening.

You would have laughed if you watched me test it,

I just put the board on cardboard, hand held the heatsink on top of the FX55 and booted it up.

I wasnt messing around this time

:D

off topic...

so which servers do you guys play bf2 on?

Atm I'm considering returning my mobo back to the vendor and getting a replacement from OCUK like Coolasmoo.

I guess from the lower post hits, everyone is having a good level of success with the new bios????

I tried a quick overclock yesterday, albeit quite easy for most hardware, the good news is that I did not have to reset my configuration at a cold power up.

Hdtach also shows a higher transfer rate of 102mbs for my raid array.

I'm putting serious consideration into going 4 disc raid, I don't store anything too crazy, and the extra speed would be welcome.......

I will post you some ip's over tomorrow raja when i get properly setup.

We also have a private Teamspeak2 server which your more that welcome to use.

was you standing on one leg facing east as well just to be sure :D

glad its ok now ,get that pc back in its box and enjoy it

i don,t know whether to go back to a very early restore point to remove all the testing junk or leave alone

BTW we are getting mentioned on a lot of forums , in particular Raja and your self , plus overclockers forum gets plenty of mention. It would not suprise me if Asus do not post 311 on their web site but its on both ftp,s asuscom.de and asus.com

Thanks anyway, i will keep this thread updated as usuall,

I think we are virtually at a point where this motherboard can be recommended as a good purchase.

How are you guys getting on with the 1T command rate, mine seems fine for what I will use it.
