I think we are virtually at a point where this motherboard can be recommended as a good purchase.

How are you guys getting on with the 1T command rate, mine seems fine for what I will use it.
1T fine got the mem up to 250 ok so far

so overclocking looks good? no more stuttering in games?

im off to buy a new mobo next week and its a choice between this one and the DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D or the Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16

welcome to OcUk forums please take time to read the FAQ

read the thread there is a note relating to x1800 xfire with this mb it is said to work without a master card

the A8R32-MVP is ok now the bios has been sorted as Raja has posted I think we could give it our stamp of approval all of the boards you mention except A8R32-MVP are sli boards and will NOT run crossfire

IT fine here

Everything back in the case

I left the original install as it was, and just updating Catalyst drivers to 6.3

Just tweaking really now

Time to change sig

read the FAQ's? have i broke a rule already ? :P

yeah i know the other 2 are not crossfire, i have the sapphire crossfire disadvantage atm and am not impressed with it so i needed to know if this mobo is ok to buy now as i dont want to spend another ?100+ on another lemon and then have to sell up again to go SLI.

i also knew about the not needing a master card too and thats another reason that swayed me towards crossfire again.

are 2 x1800's faster than 2 7800gt's? ( another deciding factor before i buy) :D

no you have not broken any rules at all its just these forums are very strict about bad language and mentioning any competitors

the answer to the which is faster i do not know i have never owned a nvidia card

two x1800 would play any game that is about now and for the next year at least

How are you guys updating your bios? I want to give AsusUpdate a try, primarily because I didn't bother putting a floppy on this machine :D Has anyone tried it?

Hi

Asus update works great for me, just set the tab to update from file, link to the file from menu, click open and follow on. It's very easy........

Yeah no problems with the Windows one.

re: 1T timings. I used to run (with older bios and with previous motherboard), Opteron 146 @ 3.0 which is 300 HTT and the memory at either 166 or 183MHz (250/275 effective) at 1T 3.0-3-3-8.
Running those settings now crashes any cpu/mem test. Evening running at 133Mhz memory crashes the system.

Going to have another fiddle tonight.

Just tried installing AsusUpdate. It failed  . First time it said "NT service registry error", which is great as I'm on Win XP Pro 32bit. Second time it said "No Asus motherboard. Installation will be abooted now" (yes, 'abooted' lol).

So, I'm off to buy a usb floppy tomorrow lol

EDIT: It's also saying "Unable to create NT driver service for BS_DEF.DLL". Anyone know what's going on there?

in the manual it gives the way to uses ez flash using a cd

that should work

but so should asus update

just bung the asus cd in and let the wizard run for the utils it should be fine

or make a bootable pen drive and use that

hold F8 down during the mb post and you will get a dialog to temp change the boot order make sure the usb divce is plugged in before you turn on

Not in my manual it doesn't :( Just says an error message will be displayed if the floppy drive isn't present.

That doesn't work either :(

Might try that with AFUDOS a bit later.

Just tried updating my Bios via the AsusUpdate and now Windows won't load. Just get a flashing cursor top left. In the BIOS setup AMIBIOS shows Version 0311. Anyway I can revert in the Bios Setup?

what's the rest of your config, ram, hd etc, are you using raid?

ps have you tried in safe mode (F8)?

I realised you probably knew what you were talking about ;) so decided to give it a go.
I updated the bios by using ALT+F2 at post and having the new bios (renamed to A8R32MVP.rom) on a usb stick. When it couldn't find the floppy it looked first for a cd and then a usb stick. Found it and installed happily :) Thanks for the advice!
