A8R32-MVP what is it

It could be simlar to the mem chips just being cooled because they are under the heat sink , but it is a hard one to call does it need cooling if so how much

This is the problem, and without any further input , i will have to re-assemble the stock heatsink.

I can imagine that core melting and my face melting along with it :D

Atleast i can AS5 the core while its like this.

I think may have found a potential problem when watercooling or fitting third party heatsinks to the X1900 Mastercard.

The mastercard has an extra core (could be the composite engine) that is thermal padded the same as the memory chips.

Im guessing this needs a heatsink even maybe a passive one.

Any ideas or has anybody done this themselves

I emailed swiftech about this because I am planning on using the MCW60 waterblock and MC14 ramsinks on the X1900 and I noticed a pic on THG showing the extra chip (didn't know it was the composite at the time). Got an email back from Gabe suggesting to use a heatsink. Actually what he said was: "Yes, it is likely that you would need a 9th heatsink to cool the compositing chip on ATI X1900." In context I take that to mean one of their MC14 ramsinks. Unfortunately they come in packs of 8  From the pic is doesn't look like the MC14 would cover the whole chip though.

EDIT: Anyone know anywhere selling the MCW60 blocks yet? I don't want to order the damn things from the US. Postage is too much :( If any of the Overclockers staff read this, can you order them for me?

Yep, pulled directly from swiftech

All ATI® Radeon™ series from X1300 and above (incl. latest X1900 series) - Please note that Master cards for Crossfire™ Systems feature a compositing chip requiring an extra MC14 heatsink for cooling, not provided with the kit.

So aslong as i stick one of the Zalman Memory Heatsinks on the Compositing chip, i should be ok

Hmmm, trouble is i aint got a spare one :(

Think i will give up an slap it back together

Was reading the Asus support forum and 'apparently' they are working on a newer bios :)

Probably be a few weeks, but still... :)

Recieved my new board from OCUK today, up and running, the annoying ram scream has gone. The board also goes straight to my previous overclocks without me having to creep it up at 5mhz at a time. :D

good on you raja

thats how it should be ( at least mine works that way)

was it the same rev?

just goes to show they are not all made equal , maybe diff. batch / asembly plant who knows glad its ok tho

Hi,

sorry did not check the revision number, no that I have both 1900's inplace it's too hard to see. I reckon there was definatley something wrong with the first batch.

raja, hopefully I'll be able to confirm your findings this saturday when I receive mine from OcUK, btw, got me money back from the 'other' one after a bit of a rant and rave :-)

Hi Chris,

what will happen anyway, will they e-mail me or phone and ask what I want?
How long did the whole return process take?

I got my old board collected yesturday at about 3pm

Received an email today saying it was tested as faulty and they refunded my card.

Hi,

Thanks for that, I must say, I don't miss that horrible squeal one bit! Just been playing BF2, also my ram skew is set to auto, no problems whatsoever.

I managed 9119 marks in 3d mark06 with this setup which is quite good, especially as I did not overclock my 1900's.

Hi all , got my money back today after 14 days , no issues although they said it wasnt faulty , perhaps they flashed the bios which at the time i had it wasn't available :) and like Raja's board it was a very strange clocker

PC Probe II report a pretty unhealthy motherboard temperature. Higher than the CPU

The CPU is running at 38 C, a lil higher than I would want at stock. But the motherboard is at 44C! I am sure that I plugged the fans in the right connectors, so does anyone know what is wrong?

Hi again raja, you do realise I'm talking about another company, not OcUK with my return? If this is against the board rules then pls delete my message. I was less than happy with the returns process, the delivery return didn't take the time I was given, should have been the next day, infact it was the day after. They then stated that they'd have to test it and if it didn't prove faulty they'd charge me and return the goods. They weren't going to test with the same components and they wouldn't listen to me when I stated that the goods weren't working properly in the first place and I was requesting a replacement under the sale of goods act, the woman just kept repeating that I'd stated it was faulty. In the end I got fed up with the coversation, ordered another from OcUK and banged off a two page e-mail to the motherboard supplier detailing the issues, the tests I'd done and how I'd been forced to purchase other peripherals to try and solve them.Half an hour later I got a e-mail stating that upon reciept of the motherboard I would get a refund.
Things is, these motherboards seem to be getting cheaper each time I buy one, on my third order now! Just hope this one proves to better than the last and if your experiences are anything to go by, then it should be...
