A8R32-MVP what is it

I take it you also tried the Pci slot nearest the Blue PCI-E slot (PCI 1)

Thats were i have my X-FI, but i didnt have any problems in the other slots other than irq sharing.

Thanks for the reply Coolasmoo and a huge thanks to you guys for getting the initial problems with this board sorted :D

Back to my problem, the slot closest to the blue PCI-e slot is covered by the waterblock. Does it make any difference what slot the Graphic card is in if I only have a single card? The manual says you should use only the blue slot??

Just found what my problem was. If I move the card in the slot down by a few millimeters it is detected. Move it back up and its gone again. I now have it screwed solidly in place :)

now for some o/c ing :D

Raja,

Just need to check something with you.

On your slave card, did you install the crossfire dongle in the top DVI slot or the bottom one.

Or doesnt it matter

Hi,

I always go crossways, seems to work fine.

Im sure we have all done something similar :D

Good luck with the board

Well, ive just ordered one of these... bargain price, and should be a good mobo for my upcoming opty 180 that ill get end of april/start of may... ill run my fx-53 on it while the kinks are worked out. Cant be worse than my K8N anyways...

Couple of questions - should i deffo upgrade to the latest bios? And which drivers do i want from the ATI site?

Bios 311 (current) fixes some gaming issue (see earlier), so I'd say it is a must.

I am using the drivers on the CD-Rom. Haven't paid attention to driver updates yet.

Well, itll be here monday, so ill take the morning off to replace all the HS TIM with AS5 and get mental preparation for the build... lucklily i wont have to dismantle my water setup to change mobo. Now i need to find my mobos manual so i can flog it off on fleebay...

Morning all, yes you would have been welcome with all the help you've given me, we had our usual sat night curry and plenty of the red stuff so up a bit late this morning....

Been thinking about this memory issue now that I've managed to get one working, but the other one won't. I think, seeing as both the maonboard and the memory is from OcUK, I'll give then a call tomorrow and see what they have to say, hopefully they'll give me a replacement.

Seeing as this new board has fixed some issues, but not with the memory it was just my bad luck that I had bad components, it happens....

Hi Chris,

If you read the link I posted above, I think you'll find that It explains why the sytem does not like your ram. I think the bios config maybe a little too aggressive for it.

Hi raja, maybe so but I'm still going to try for replacement, they are meant to be matched pairs, thus they should work at the same timings, not just one...

Morning all, well my morning got off to a good start!!! Motherboard arrived just after 8:30, rev 103g, bios v 0201, not going to flash to 0311 yet. Installed the motherboard ok, had a minor panic when I thought I'd sent the case connectors back to 'S' in mistake, but no, put them in a safe place, jeez that would have cost me a new case if I had...

PC booted up first time, HD drives and the Corsairs were all correctly detected, I didn't perform a fresh install of XP, couldn't see the point really but I might go for my X64 again sometime in the future...

Well so far so good, fingers still crossed though, will test it with my games now and I'll report back. thanks all....

Random thoughts again

Chris C

if i read the above post your mb with 201 did boot with the corsairs in , when did it stop was it after the flash to 311 ?

Hi, no with the new board I decided to leave it as it came. As I said it booted up ok and all seemed to be fine until I started to test it with games. Tried HL2 and I got bad stuttering followed by a BSOD, rebooted and tried TOCA, again it BOSD'd. After that it wouldn't reboot, so I put the old Kingstons back in and flashed it up to 311 so I could play HF2. Thing is I ran all morning with just the one Corsair in place, the other one just will no boot, all was fine and I played TOCA for over an hour with no issues. This is what believes me to think there is something wrong with this one module and I would argue that it isn't a 'matched pair' as they both work in another mainboard, a K8, that runs them at 133mhz instead, however running them at 200mhz should hardly bring out a sweat in them anyway.
Keep the random thoughts coming :-)

PS I did try flashing back to 0201 but it made no difference

This board is still giving me grief. Is there no sign of a 'proper' overclocking guide by the bigger review sites yet?

I had been running at 2.8ghz (280x10 (166 divider)) and everything seems okay - apart from the fact I'd prefer to be running at 3.0 with 1T like before - but then random rebooting when playing trackmania after 20-30mins ish.

Now running at 2.6ghz 1:1  I'll give this board a few weeks, for either another bios update and/or a guide to work out the settings required in the bios properly, else I'll bin it and get a NF4 board instead.

Duke,

Hopefully there should be a new bios. Did you try relaxing your memory timings with a64 as shown in the link above? Give it a bash and see how high you can go, post your results to that link either way. A bios will come out quicker if compiled results can be sent back to Asus.

Systool is your friend to help hit 300fsb+, Bios is not your friend as it seems to have issues.

Choose ICS951422 from the drop down for CPU overclocking, this will get the clockgen working in windows, next up change the timings to that TWR is 3, idle cycle is 128, bypass max at 4 and TREF is 15.6us 200 and then clock the board up to 300 and test.

This is the ONLY way i have successfully hit 300fsb on this board, from bios i have no chance
