A8R32-MVP what is it

Hi Dr Who, if you ask anyone on here whether their video cards are sharing or not you'll get the answer that they are. Sharing IRQ's is not the nightmare you describe but a norm and has been for some time now. Yes some cards are sensitive to what slot the've been installed in and what device is being shared, but that is not necessarily related to IRQ sharing. If you want to sell your FX60 then I might offer you something for it, I'm sure I won't have any IRQ issues....

Hi ozscot, and welcome to the forum, XP has been sharing IRQ's since it came out, whatever ATI recommend, and they seem out of date with this, sharing should not be an issue....

Thanks for the welcome and help.I`am no expert at this, far from it, so all suggestions are appreciated.

Chris

I show my irq table here...

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 9 SCSI/RAID Host Controller OK
IRQ 10 MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device OK
IRQ 12 Microsoft PS/2 Mouse OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 17 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 18 Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition OK
IRQ 19 Radeon X1900 Series OK
IRQ 19 Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) OK
IRQ 19 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller OK
IRQ 20 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller OK
IRQ 23 ULi PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller OK

3 critical high speed items on irq 19, 4 if I enable all my USB controllers...

You think that doesnt have an impact? So why if I enable them does the system just lockup?

The irq handling on this motherboard is ####... I never had that much irq sharing with intel chipsets...

2,3,4,5,7,11 and 22 are all free... yet 19 has 3 devices on it... it was a moron who designed a mobo that shares irq's with all the devices onboard...

You may think that it is fine but its only if all the drivers work together.. if they dont then there are issues, and mine has issues... so it is not fine...

I will sell my FX60 here if i so decide, as the price in cyp£ is far better than what I will get elsewhere, but not until I have tried a new mobo... a NON-Asus... and probably non crossfire, so I can at least shuffle some cards/devices around, or fit a USB2 controller card, one that works...

I have my XFI Soundcard using the slot below the Blue Mastercard if it helps free anything up

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 17 Creative SB X-Fi OK
IRQ 17 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 18 Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition OK
IRQ 18 Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller OK
IRQ 18 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 19 Radeon X1900 Series OK
IRQ 19 ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 19 ULi SATA/RAID Controller (M1575/M1697) OK
IRQ 23 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller OK

Wonder why your ethernet controller is using a different Irq to mine,
Edit/ your on PCI and im using the PCI-E

Coolasmoo it's no different to yours, I have no freezing problems...........

irq 19 shares uli sata and 1900xtx
irq 18 shares marvel yukon ethernet card, Crossfire edition mastercard and Pci to Usb controller..

I agree that in theory it could be done better, considering how many other free ports are available. But it causes no known issues with my setup...............

Edit: did you check out that Evolution GT demo yet???

Hi, my IRQ sharing is as follows, the only IRQ's that are shared are 18 & 19, 18 is shared by the XT1900 and the Ali PCI to USB Open Host Controller, 19 shares the Ali PCI Open Host Controller with the ULi Sata/Raid Controller.
Now I have had AMD based PC systems for around 5-6 years, most of them having had Via chipsets, they have all shared IRQ's and not one has had any issues with this. I had a one mainboard, a A7V8X, that gave me file corruption, caused by latency issues and a SB Live, then a Audigy, soundcard. I cured that by using non Creative Technology drivers.

Fact is I have around 200 PC's that I maintain at the two schools where I work and the majority, around 95%, of them are AMD based systems, none of them have any IRQ sharing issues. I'm not saying it has never happened, and I'm not saying that it won't again, because it has, but I have never experienced it. I believe that it is put about about by those who don't understand how it works and by companies, such as ATI, who, when confronted by some issue with their graphics cards, will leap upon this excuse as a cop-out.

There will always be hardware mismatches, there will always be badly made hardware, badly written drivers, and there will some systems that will run hardware that another will not, that is life within the IT world and, my experiences with the A8R32-MVP has proven that, although it's not been helped by faulty hardware in the first instance.

So ends my sermon of the day :o

And how many X1900 crossfire systems are among them?

For that matter how many crossfire systems? how many with high speed USB2.0 external drives? How many running Ipods? How many running MSASYNC? as its these items causing issues..

;)

Heck just looked at yours, you aint even running crossfire...

are you rolly eyeing me?

nowhere have i said i run xfire i have always spoken of one x1900xtx

thats for the future when you dont need a master card , or not , vista will be on us then with its can of worms

Both Coolasmoo and myself are running most of the items you mention, inclusing Crossfire, I don't have the freezing issue at all..........

Not running MSASYNC AFAIK.
I regulary use my Ipod on this pc, also have a wireless belkin adapter (usb), and a logitech wireless rumblepad2 (usb) all the devices are usb 2.0.

With regards to the current issues you are facing, I would contact Asus, take it from there. You might even want to further all your specs to Gary Key, he posted earlier in the thread, he may be of assistance.

When the initial freezing issues in games surfaced (earlier in this thread), many of us suspected that the irq sharing was the root cause. However it later turned out to be a ram timing issue. A further ram timing fix is approaching, the rest is under NDA so I can't comment further.............
