A8R32-MVP what is it

Yes sorry, should have said the same, thanks lordedmond for putting me to rights :)

I have had IRQ sharing before where it has not been an issue, but when all else has failed, 2 high speed bandwidth hog items on the same irq can cause all sorts of problems...

I have been building pc's for people since the early 486's, including my own, done the phase change, water cooling, overclocking thing for as long as its been possible...

My experience may differ, but doesn't make any one of us right or wrong...

:)

I'm sorry, atm I can't comment further on a new bios, all I can say is that people have been working hard behind the scenes to fix a lot of the issues that have been showing up worldwide, primarily ram issues and overclocking. Saying any more than this would ruin my working trust. As much as I feel obliged to tell some in private, I gave my word, so must stand firm. I am not more important than anyone else here, but I have kept up communication, trying to remain balanced enough to see both sides of the story.

Atm things are in the pipeline, there is still a little uncertainty on my part, it would be wrong for me to make a statement at this time. Rest assured as soon as I'm given clearance, I'll let you know. To be honest, I think we'll all be at the same point of info by then.............

Hi glynor, glad you got it sussed, did you note my offer of help in the DH forum, if you need any then just ask away.
ChrisC

I did see your offer. Thanks a lot! At the time when I saw the offer though, I had already begun to suspect the server box, so I decided to proceed with my own testing.

I also thought I'd mention here that I ended up rolling back to the ASUS-provided ULi drivers, after finding that the system would fail Prime95 after about 2 hours (rounding error). I rolled back to the ASUS driver, and swapped out my crap-tastic Crucial CL2.5 RAM for some mushkin eXP DDR500 (2x1GB) and the problem went away. Not sure which of those two steps solved it, but the system is smooth as silk now.

BTw keep up the good work

Man, you guys keep on confusing me. I don't know what to do now, should I wait for the DFI/SAPPHIRE/ABIT boards or should I just go ahead and buy the Asus?

Well I will be waiting to see the outcome of the new bios before i junk the Asus and buy a DFI/SAPPHIRE/ABIT... and then watching to see how those do before I buy one of them...

:o

Nystylin ultimatley you must make that decision yourself..................

By now you know that this mobaord is fine for 75% of people, better still when not overclocking.

Getting something else may work out better in some regards. As a whole package the Asus board is not bad, we know most of it's issues. Unless you are willing to wait at least a month, getting any other motherboard (rd580) represents a greater risk at this time, especially if you order upon launch. Do remember, there are always bios issues, and whatever manufacturer you choose, there is usually a few updates, that one has to wait for..........

No-one is trying to confuse you :)

If you really can't decide, roll a dice.... :D

Raja is spot on

Sapphire already have 2 beta bioses for the new 580 boards on their website, even tho you cant get a board yet...

:D

Yeah, I know you guys aren't trying to confuse me, I was just kidding about that. :) I'm just hearing from a whole bunch of different things from different people about the new DFI coming out soon. I hear that they have been studying the ASUS board and that they are making sure that it doesn't have the issues the ASUS is having... So ultimately it should be a flawless board right?

Also remember that the majority of those without issues don't bother posting... myself included. :)

It's a bit flaky on the overclock (I was one of those who had to inch up on it), but once I'd got everything set, it was a dream to work with.

I don't mind a bit of elbow grease setting things up, so taking my time on a dummy install making sure any potential software/driver issues were sorted first was probably the way to go - solved a few niggles without messing up my full reinstall.

No noise to speak of, working fine with my OCZ PC3200 EL, Opty and 1900XT. 'Only' running at 270, but I maxxed out at 275 on my A8N SLi Deluxe, so not really missing much. It'll probably hit higher now it's had a few weeks through it.

1.03g with 0311 here, as with most.

One more question, sorry for being so inquisitive. I've heard that there are a lot of issues with people using Windows XP x64. Now I'm debating on getting that OS. But is it true that people that used the OS were having a lot of instability, I'm thinking of ordering the trial CD from MS. and seeing how it acts towards the whole situation. Cause if I see that's its unstable, I'll just wait till Vista. The other thing is that x64 is only being sold OEM. But being that I'm not a computer guru I want the product support. So if I buy an OEM version of X64 when Vista comes out will I be able to buy a retail version of it and not have to pay for product support or will it remain OEM because the original OS was OEM?

Am I making any sense?

Could anyone tell me where the source of my relatively high mobo temp comes from? I am still wondering where the temperature reader is on this motherboard.

[Yes there is airflow in my case, and my CPU is not running very hot either]

Hi all
Been away from this thread for a little while so thought I'd drop in and see how everyone else is faring with this board.

Got a couple of things to report. Firstly, and for no reason I can fathom the high pitched whining has stopped. Hasn't happened at all for a good few days now but I've no idea why. I'm not missing it though :p

I've had my first dabble with some very modest overclocking. Set AI N.O.S to +10% to get my FX60 (with stock cooling atm) running at @2860MHz, which it does with no complaint. I tried with 15% too but I can't get Windows to load at that setting. This is all with the RAM at it's manufacturer settings of 3-3-2-8 1T, which I have had to force as the Asus BIOS sets it at 2T (as reported by A64 Tweaker) if I leave everything on auto

Also I'm having some weirdness with the network adapter. Regardless of which socket I plug my network cable into, device manager reports Local Area Connection @ 10Mbps as active and Local Area Connection @ 1Gbps as non-operational

Looking forward to the seeing what the new bios has to offer when it arrives :)

Good morning, crunch day today as my 'replacement' memory sticks should arrive, we shall see what we shall see.

I'm also currently investigating another issue with my DVD RW, it won't recognise RW discs at all and thus can't perform a format on them. Another strange thing is that it will open up a folder if I click on the drive icon, but without any disc being present!!! New one on me, anyhow, as the drives are cheap enough, and my partner has been after one, I will go and and purchase another this morning, if mine isn't faulty then she can have it
Will report back later...

Me also - thought i'd take a look and see how people are getting on...

Interesting - my FX60 (Zalman Aero Flower) wont go above 2800 in a stable fashion - although i'm not using AI N.O.S - I just upped the multiplier to 14 - i'll give the AI N.O.S a go tonight I think - been meaning to try it. Mem timings are stock 2-3-2-5 (which I think are a bit aggressive for overclocking) am using 1T as well. I've seen a good few reports of stable 3GHz on air - though i'm having trouble getting there =/ Any suggestions would be more than welcome. also looking forward to the new BIOS.
