A8R32-MVP what is it

So you guys think that Asus has cleaned up the A8R32-MVP and is now shipping a good board with 0311? Is it safe for me to buy it and CF my x1900xtx and x1900cf edition card with the fx 60?

Wait for the ABIT and DFI boards to get full reviews. They are just coming out (ABIT is out here in the US) and it would seem silly to get the ASUS without seeing how they differ if at all. I wish I had waited but I had never had a build go like this and I’ve never had this many issues with Asus.

Just a few posts up there is a guy with some kind of known Crossfire issue.

I want to return the A8R32 but what will I do with the $3000+ of PC hardware while I wait. I was able to fix my CD/DVD read pausing by putting in an old soundcard but that is eating at me as the onboard sound should work. Also, I still get some shuttering in Counter Strike: Source but can restart the game and have it go away.

All that being said I’m afraid to pay more money and try Crossfire. :(

Just popped into OcUK today to get a X2 4400 to replace my FX55

I had an easy time with the FX just upping the Multi, but it was a right toasty little core so i fancied a change

Im going to see how well the Asus does with the little dual core

I nearly came back with the Abit RD580 while i was there, but luckily they wernt getting stock till the afternoon so i was able to resist temptation.

I will run it at stock for the night, and then torture it tomorrow and probrably let you know how i get on then

Tanquen, your also over at Driver heaven right, What are your system specs now, are you using CF? Or are your cards collecting dust like mine?
System:

CPU AMD Athlon 64 FX 60 2.6G 939P - CPU FAN Zalman CNPS 9500 LED
MEM 1Gx2 Mushkin 184P D500 991493R
MB ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe XPES320 939
Video Card X1900XTX 512M H190XTX512DVN
HD 160G ST 7K 8M SATA2 ST3160812AS (4 Drives in 2 RAID Arrays)
PSU 2 (Yes 2 power supplies) Silverstone SST-ST60F 600W RT
DVD-ROM Pioneer DVD-106S
DVD-ROM Pioneer DVD-???
DVD-RW Sony DRU-800A
DVD-RW Sony DRU-820A

I put my old soundcard in just for the heck of it and I now no longer have random pausing while reading from the CD/DVD drives. ???

I also had my first random reboot. I have no idea why. I have been using the stock 10% overclock since day one with no issues like this and prime run fine. ???

I think I'm returning it for the ABIT board.

Crossfire? No, not I. I’ve read about too many issues. I was just planning to get a x1900 master card on the cheap in 4 to 6 months or when a game I really like can make good use of it. It’s just too much money for the small increase in some games but it also adds issues to some games and some are having graphic artifacts with some motherboards. I even saw an Oblivion review where they got it running in Crossfire mode but some the textures flickered or something like that. Anyway, I’m looking for fewer headaches not more. :)

52c is ok, though one thing I've noticed, the stabilty of an overclock is compromised when you start hitting 48 celsius, especially in demanding games like Oblivion.

BTW no updates as yet, regarding further refinements for the motherboard. ATM I'm following the 3 other moboard launches, with a desire to upgrade to the DFI when the price comes down/trusted reviews are available. I have no problems with this board, but the overclocking is not quite as stable as I'd like.

Hi, well I'm not about to jump ship quite yet, from what I've been hearing the 'other' ones have their issues as well, price, performance and overclocking abilities. I've read that some are prepared to go for it without checking out those 'other's, well I'm not about to make the same mistake as I did with the A8R32-MVP, give them a couple of months perhaps for them to mature. Besides, I have a 100% stable platform now and have no complaints....

What's the situation about getting a replacement? Mosfet whine is always on now. Unless it's a simple fix, ie attachment of mosfet to HS is loose.

Chris, I'm not about to jump ship yet either, but will keep a close eye on developments. I'm pretty sure (from what my sources tell me), that an update will arrive from Asus eventually, so things may improve further still.

FWIW Intel's new Yonah cpu's are coming in at a decent price/perfomrance ratio, and the great thing is, the intel chipset is crossfire capable. CPC managed to overlcok a 2ghz Yonah to around 2.7 ghz (at only 28 degrees on load air cooling), at which it was just shaded by a FX60 clocked to 2.8ghz in benchmarks. Obviously one has to allow for a little sugar, but at the price it does look attractive, half the price of an FX60, though Intel chipset moboards seem quite expensive. So there's a few things I will watch over the coming months.

Good raja, hate to lose you from this thread if you did....

The only reason that I might, in the near future that is, is if I feel that Asus aren't allowing this mainboard to develop, and mature through the release of bios and driver updates. If nothing happens, such as what's happened with the A8R-MVP, then there will be no point in staying with this one. I remember my old A8V, they were releasing several bios updates, sometimes more than one a month and in beta form as well, up until xmas. Trouble is, the lack of any firm statements from here, DH and from Asus, is making me feel a little less confident about Asus's intentions, let's hope that isn't true...

Cool,

While im not having too much trouble with the Asus, I may take a trip out tomorrow and pick ap the Abit RD580 (the heatpipe seems like it may help if anything)

I just wanna see if there are any improvements or not and then probrably flea bay one or the other

Hi,looking for some feedback on the Northbridge heatsink ( the black one ) regarding temperature. On my board it`s very warm to the touch when the system is at idle, but when under load it`s almost too hot to touch. I`ve got good air flow through the case and the cpu is water cooled.

My concern is how the board will run when the ambient temperature is higher ie: in the summer months.

Thanks guys.

ozscot,

I've put an 80mm fan near the NB, it cools the memory chips on my 1900's, but alos manages to cool the NB at the same time, reported MB temps seem never to rise above 30 degrees even when gaming.

PS, I'm gonna try to lap my 1900 coolers soon, got hold of some 2500 grit paper, most people have reported a 6 degree drop in temps.

Thanks for that Raja.

At some point I intend to water cool my 1900`s, but in the meantime I`ll try your idea with an 80mm fan. Another interesting point you make is the reported temperature of your MB when gaming.I get a reported temp of 30 degress also when gaming, so that makes me wonder just how accurate the Asus probe really is. I`ve never put much stock in these monitoring programs, but this one seems to be miles out in accuracy.
