About the MM

While access to the MM would be nice for me following a few upgrades, I totally understand why the post count is so high. I've had my fingers burnt a few times both on ebay with its "buyer protection" and on forums that require paid membership to buy/sell. The only way of getting genuine people is to set the bar high enough so that only genuine people can pass it.

Sadly for me its going to be well into 2014 possibly 2015 before I get near it, but when that day comes I will feel like I earned it.

There is also a certain irony that the OP cant be bothered to respond to their own thread.

I know, you would have thought that this thread would be ideal to boost his post count. I'm sure a few years down the line he will create another thread asking if you can get MM access after 10 years regardless of post count.

Whilst you make a valid point, currently the MM is thriving with for sale/wanted threads. Its unlikely that members with MM access will dwindle to the point that no-one will use it.

Not to mention that if you did introduce changes that relaxed entry requirements you would put a lot of people off, speaking for myself anyway. And then the quality could start to deteriorate.

I think the strict limits are fair enough, and do a lot to creating as safe an environment for the MM as they can.

I luckily managed to sneak in before the upper limit was brought in, but wouldn't have minded waiting till 1000.

jebus holy thread explosion, cmon guys it makes sense, what scammer is willing to make the effort to get 1000 posts? None. Exactly, those guys want security and confidence in buying and selling.

Exactly. If anyone could get in there, it'd be worse than gumtree considering that the majority of transactions are done by post and rely on being able to trust the people you're dealing with.

No guarantees of course, but it seems to work pretty well for most.

I actually quite like Gumtree, had nothing but good experiences buying or selling on it, virtually always in person mind.

Yeah, that's my point :)

Everyone knows gumtree is a meet in person deal. The MM isn't more often than not.
Posting stuff to strangers or sending money on gumtree is the ultimate no-no.

I don't see why you should benefit from a forum which you don't contribute to.

Not everyone with a high post count has made a positive contribution to the forum.

I think 1000 post is a decent amount since a scammer wont bother posting 1000 to get into mm and then be met that everyone expects you to send items first and then after their arrival you will be paid, since you have no trust.

However, I do not believe a scammer will register an account and wait for 2 years for it to get mm and try to scam people off... I think 2 year cap is better protection than 1000 post since no scammer going to wait 2 years to get a chance for 1 off scam...

I also think that with some bull-crap people write on these forums especially on GD a person with 1000 posts isnt exactly always a good contributor, so the argument that you HAVE to get 1000 posts to be considered a contributor I believe is stupid.

1000 posts or 3 years and lets say 500 posts is decent by my standards.

You'd be surprised :D

I have no idea how I got to 4k posts tbh. I haven't even really posted in GD much until recently...

It's just a matter of getting involved. If your main motivation is getting into the MM, then you're not really here for the right reasons in my opinion.

To be honest, I spent most time in hardware forums advising people on what rigs to get, so I mean you post 1 message but it takes about 10 mins to build up a rig in ocUK shop, I only did 2-3 max per day of those things. So thats only 3 posts but I think thats much better quality and contribution than some stupid rambling that is written in hundreds on GD.

I had something like 500 posts and I wanted MM access to see what it is, so I started writing nuisance on GD and well I am here to this day :D

I dont agree that 1000 posts make you a valued contributor... Its quality not the quantity I see its as unfair that a GD spammer gets an access much faster than lets say a valued contributor in hardware forums who spends much more time per post, speccing a rig or advising.

Ive been pretty active on these forums ( I think ) and my average post per day is 2.89... pretty far away from 20 needed to get mm access in 6 months

I agree with where you're coming from. There is a difference between quality and quantity.
For me, I think the first thousand or so was mainly done in GH doing specs for people too fwiw. That and gpu cooling escapades :D

How would you change the regs if you could?
It'd be asking a lot to have everyone judged on an individual basis where the content of 500 or so posts had to be scrutinized before access was granted for example.
