Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2010, Yas Island Marina Circuit - Race 19/19

I have lost a lot of respect for Massa. I was expecting a fighting comeback after his accident last year. But we really haven't seen much of anything from him. He isn't even a very good rear gunner for Alonso.
Thank you! At last someone seeing things from my perspective. :p I don't get why Ferrari, a team known for being ruthless, haven't sacked Massa yet. It'd be nice to think that if he was allowed to win in Germany that the result would have kick started him again but I don't see that it would have done.

And every time I read that Massa has said that he's just as fast as Alonso but has got bad luck or that he'll be as fast as, or perhaps even faster, than Alonso next season I wonder if the accident damaged him somewhere else. One Ferrari driver is a two-time world champ, almost a triple world champ, and has been involved in 4 of the last 6 title fights. The other is a past it wannabe who has deluded himself into thinking that his very fast team mate isn't actually that much faster than him. Alonso finished 2010 108 points ahead of Massa, that's over 4 wins of points ahead in a 19 race season.

Why wasn't Kubica penalised for crossing the white line when he exited the pits?

He probably should have been, and probably would have earlier in the season (sounds daft I know) but he did seem to realise and correct it fairly sharpish and I don't think he took any advantage from it, the stewards probably felt it was pointless penalising him at that time.

c.f. Schumi and Rubens - Ferrari like having someone compliant...

I'm not sure Massa will be as fast as he was. I wonder if Ferrari will dare to replace him mid-season if Alonso's in the title hunt but Massa is nowhere to be seen. I think we can expect Webber/Vettel/Button/Hamilton to be more or less in the fight if Red Bull and McLaren deliver fast cars. Ferrari really need to have two performing drivers if they want either title next year.

It was a very odd season from Massa. He started off the season like I thought he would- ahead of Alonso in qualifying and slightly behind in race pace but after the first race it he was well off the pace in most qualifying sessions but reasonable competitive in clear air during the race.

my sentiments exactly :D

Vettel wasnt my favourite, i wanted Webber or Hamilton to win

But i'll settle for seeing Alonso being a petulant child and crying like a baby on the floor.

I can not agree more strongly with that comment. I think both Alonso and Webber needed to up their game and hunt down the opposition, which they both did not !
Webber has to nail the qualifying a lot better for next year, as that arrogant Vettel will be letting him know who is number one and who is number 2 in the RBR team !

who would you replace masa with though? I think that's the biggest problem.
Webber or Kubica. Webber is most unlikely to happen but he's mates with Alonso and Ferrari might be able to tempt him away from the Vettel Racing Squad. :p

Compliant yet fast. Rubens did at least manage to win a few races and back MS up. When has Massa done that consistently this season?

I think it was fair to expect Massa to be slightly ahead of Alonso for the first few races as Massa had the advantage of knowing the team and the new car that little bit more than Alonso. But Alonso's talents soon kicked in and Massa ended up being behind and slower.

I think Massa will take a little while to get back up to speed, how long did it take Hakkinen to recover from his brain injury?

MW might have lost his only chance at a world title sadly, I was hoping he'd do it and now I fear he may be number two next year if he likes it or not.

The race was reasonably entertaining but did highlight the struggle F1 has to make passing a reality - the adjustable rear wings could be interesting but effectively that is just the f-duct of this year, hopefully a cleaner less disruptive system and coupled with KERS we could have another great year in 2011 - lets hope it builds on the last two years :)

Didn't LH and Alonso and maybe a few others say that Kubica would be the driver they'd be most concerned about if he got a competitve car?

Hakkinen ended up a double world champion and was MS' most feared fellow driver. I can't think that anyone on OcUK considers Massa a potential double world champion.

In one way I agree. But if he gets a good start to 2011, assuming he's still there next season, and is able to keep himself to no more than 10 points behind Vettel at any one point, or even ahead of Vettel, then what would RBR do? Back the man in front (Webber perhaps?) or concentrate on Vettel who could easily be 3rd/4th in the standings when it comes to crunch time?
