Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2011, Yas Marina Circuit - Race 18/19

What does it say?
As far as I know, none of the drivers are magic, therefore they can only do what the car is capable of. :(

Yeah, what is says is that everyone who qualifies in front of him is faster than him, which is the whole idea of qualifying anyway.

The fact that quali trim and race trim are completely different should be a factor.......unless Ferrari go for quali glory to the detriment of the race in some factor

Which would be great.

If Massa hadn't been out qualifying him.

I'm not suggesting Alonso has given up, but perhaps Massa needs to race harder than him at this stage of the year. 1% difference either way is all it takes in the same car.

I would doubt highly he was saying that, however.......

Im surprised Alonso isnt fighting harder for 2nd place - he can make up all the hoolah he wants about it not mattering, "as all racing drivers only care about winning" - but thats complete bs imo, even apart from the team paying his wages wanting to be as high up the driver standings as possible

Quite a frank interview from Hamilton on the BBC F1 site.

Pretty much confirms what we've all been saying this season — he's brining his personal problems to the track.

Let's hope he sorts it out for next season.

So does that mean, that if you have a relationship break-up (or similar), you start having lots of collisions?

That's like a footballer saying that because he is getting a divorce, he keeps missing penalties.

I can't see how a personal problem can cause a collision.

Perhaps someone can explain this to me?

does anyone else find jackie stewart annoying?
hes like a stuck record thats stuck in the 60's and 70's....

only ever goes on about safety and how jim clark and fangio barely ever had any accidents and thats why they were such good drivers..

get real! if they were in the 90 > modern era they would crash as much as everyone else...

OMFG OMFG...

schumacher just touched a run off strip and now hes going on about its seldom you see a weekend without sxchumacher off the road , you dont see vettel going off the road thats why hes such a good driver

its a practice session ffs GET A GRIP!

Are you really that naive?

Are you also saying that if you were going through a personal crisis that it wouldn't affect your work like in any way?

Also, It did happen with a footballer recently — Rooney got caught banging a prossy and completely lost his form. It's taken him a year to start scoring (goals) consistently again.

Rooney did not completely lose form, as you seem to suggest.

He scored 28 league goals during the 2010/2011 season (which is basically super high), so I have no idea what you are talking about, with regards to Rooney, unless you expect him to break a World record. Try a better example next time. ;)

Many drivers go through personal problems...it doesnt mean that they start colliding with other cars.

My question still stands.

Rooney's loss of form was well documented and he scored 19 of those 28 goals in the first 18 games so my example still stands. ;)

I'll ask my question again: If you were going through a personal crisis would it affect your work life in any way?

Just because he's a racing driver doesn't mean he isn't human.

He puts a lot of pressure on himself to do well, he hasn't got any support for when it goes wrong so he pushes himself even harder in the next race and makes a mistake. This then leads to pushing even harder the next race and he makes even more mistakes. He's colliding with other cars because he puts himself in a position where he's behind other drivers. He has to get past them but he's too aggressive and they hit each other.

It's not a difficult concept — your personal life goes down the toilet, your work life suffers.

Do you honestly believe that your personal life would not impact on your professional life?

Really? If so, please write a book because you'd make a fortune :)

Please name me another driver, who has basically fallen apart due to problems in his personal life.

There are many professional sports people (and in other jobs) and they continue with their job performance consistently.

How is this done? Well, there is no need for any book writing. It's pretty simple. You have to put your personal problems to the back of your mind and do your work like a machine...almost. Some will be better at it than others.
