Would only work if they were allowed t cars or no penalties for damage again, imagine someone in a merc or rbr smashing up a car Friday morning necessitating, engine, gearbox or one other change.

Good point. I wouldn’t be averse to T cars returning anyway. It’s not like they don’t have the spares to build 2 extra cars available every race anyway. It would also need to have their own engines/gearbox separate to avoid teams abusing the limits for parts..etc so would be complex. Though if you go to that length, you may as well have a race series and call it F2……

Kimi doesn't like the changes. Perez isn't sure.

Judging by the F2 Sprint Race, it's made it a better track for racing. The drivers view of tracks and their suitability for racing are often at odds.

What do people think about having first practice session for third drivers only, with the provision that third drivers cannot have raced more than certain number of F1 races (so that it doesn’t exclude someone who covers a race due to COVID) or 2 years in that role. Could give a way to help bridge in to F1 for the rookies and give links to aid contracts. I would suggest an. additional session, but I always feel that the three practice sessions can be excessive unless there is rain.

IMO, a better option would be to re-introduce mid-season testing but mandate that the teams bring either non-F1 drivers or drivers in their first season of F1 (probably with a proviso for people who stood-in for a race or three, but definitely no "rookie" Alonso) to the test. Removing mid-season testing harmed competitiveness between the teams, IMO, so bringing it back could help with that and it would give a place for rookies and hopefuls to gain some experience.

Karen Horner and co at it again. Just think, if Max gave some space he might be 18 points ahead today.

The obsession over that crash is just weird.

It wasn't as if Lewis even did anything that bad. He was ahead going unto the turn and stood his ground. He didn't go off track or squeeze Max..Max had acres of space to still make the corner. Red Bull are so desperate to make that into something much worse than it was. Its sad.

The fact Lewis got the same penalty for that as Max did for intentionally brake testing Lewis is laughable.

That’s a good suggestion and would allow for current F2 drivers to be part of testing without removing them from a racing series. I wonder whether it would have been good to give testing next year with the new car changes coming.

In this instance, I think Red Bull are right: it's not cool to use footage of a major crash which had the driver airlifted to hospital as a "Merry Christmas" message. It's like that time F1 posted a list of 5 "feel-good" moments from one of the tracks and two of them were crashes. No cool, guys.

Hamilton went 0.7s faster than Bottas fastest time. 1.5s faster than Max’s best on the softs.

RB panicking and changing the rear wing on Perez’s car. They’re desperate for straight line speed.

The Mercedes is soo quick at this stage of the season. Hamiltons title to lose really, but anything can happen in racing (including brake magic!). Exciting end to a season regardless of what camp you support.

Pirelli put the minimum tyres pressures up overnight. Up to 23psi for fronts and 21psi for rears.

Increased tyre pressures has hurt Merc in the past, but it’s causing drivers to overheat the rears in this session.

Why don’t they just fix the damn kerbs. Grind them flat if they’re causing issues… why put up the pressures for all drivers? Having more air means nothing if the tyres get shredded on the kerbs :o

I think the RB running has been in the medium so far. But don’t think they can bridge that pace difference. The straight line speed is incredible. In the race I don’t think RB will be able to defend down the straights. Looking like merc could take an engine penalty and dominate again, though the mid field start is probably an unnecessary risk.

That'll be a penalty

I don't think so. It needs to be super bad for them to penalise for blocking in practice. In Quali, yes, in FP3? Nah. Question though: if Hamilton gets another reprimand does he serve his penalty in this race or the next?

Edit: And longer footage shows that Mazepin only tangled with him because he made a mistake in the corner anyway. Definitely no penalty.

According to the speed traps in the live timing, there's not more than 1 km/h between Lewis and Max in any sector.
