Abu Qatada

Am I the only one who doesn't care if the Jordanians torture him? I just don't give a **** in any way, shape, or form.

I say tell the EU to **** off and deport him anyway.

Whilst not perfect would you want the likes of Cameron & co writing a new one?

We never had one before the EU bill do we really need one now? Our justice system survived without one for a few hundred years and is a model used all over the world?

Think about who wrote the current one, before saying that our current government could do no better!

For once, why can't we be like France? Send him packing and get a wee slap on the wrist. If his family tries to sue, tell em to take it up with Jordan.

His time may be up:

Government signs mutual assistance treaty with Jordan designed to ensure radical cleric Abu Qatada can be extradited.

"I can tell the House that I have signed a comprehensive mutual legal assistance agreement with Jordan. This agreement is fully reciprocal, offers considerable advantages to both countries and reflects our joint commitment to tackling international crime. It covers assistance in obtaining evidence for the investigation and prosecution of crimes in either country and provides a framework for assistance in the restraint and confiscation of the proceeds of crime."
Theresa May

Surely he can't wiggle his way out of this one?

I doubt it. I really struggle to fathom how we think that we are enlightened and above other countries because we put the rights of nutters and criminals above those of law abiding people.

I could not care less if we deported him and he was tortured till the day he dies.

I wonder what would happen if he was just bundled into a back of a van on his way to the shops or mosque and then "turned up" in Jordan? No proof of government involvement, no paper trail etc.

Have you been watching The Dark Knight recently?

Nah, and I am not condoning that sort of thing (I have watched/read V For Vendetta) but was just wondering what would happen? What could anyone do without a shred of proof of involvement? Unfortunately, although I would normally be against this sort of treatment, maybe it would be a way to get rid of these individuals that live by a belief that they have the right to incite hatred and spread poisonous/dangerous terror act motivation against people that are paying for him to live in this country.

Don't see what the problem is. Government want to deport him, law says they can't. End of story. Everything hunky dory. No need to engage brain.

/legal establishment apologist mode off

Lol all the anti-EU BS in this thread is rubbish, the Human Rights act, 1998 is British statute

A British Statute that does nothing more than make the European Convention on Human Rights part of British law, similar statutes were passed in all EU member states at about the same time.

I still don't really understand what we are doing on this one, we believe that he represents a danger to the British people and one assumes have evidence to support this yet we are waisting millions in surveillance, failed deportation trials and god knows what in the way of concessions to Oman to convince them they want him. Surely the cheap and simple option is to charge him with something, try him in a British court and then lock him up and thrown away the key. That is if he is actually guilty of anything other than being a nasty horrible individual?

We've finally got rid of him:

Radical cleric Abu Qatada has been deported from the UK to Jordan to stand trial on terrorism charges.

His plane left RAF Northolt at 02:45 BST to take him to his home country, which he has not visited in 20 years.

Good riddance.
