Acer Predator X35 200hz HDR

You do realise that the information is out there for you to see. You refuse to see it and go on to say that because you cant see the difference on your NON hdr monitor you wont accept there is a difference. Isn't that a little insane? It's like refusing to believe in global warming, refusing to accept the world is round and being purposely ignorant to the facts on paper. Think about how you come across yourselves.

Duded, I swear you'd argue with yourself in a locked room!! :D

I'm certainly open to seeing what a proper HDR implementation will do (I know their will be a lot of half-arsed ones around!) :)

Why would you say that? I'm not sure where that came from. I'm obviously arguing with you because you are trying to spout misinformation about HDR. You can see proper HDR implantation right now. Go to your local currys and ask them to demo it to you. Put on Deadpool and watch and be amazed. As for games takes a look at Forza on Xbox One S.

I recommend you ask to see the LG OLED B7 or KS9000

So much for being " out of here".

And last I checked I already said it's probably something you have to see in person, you appear to have conveniently skipped over that part..

Thats assuming it does catch on, 3d was a passing fad, triple screens was a passing fad, this could fall into that catagory.
It's not at all comparable, and triple monitors isn't it wasn't a passing fad. People have 2 plus monitors for productivity reasons.

We're talking about GAMING not productivity, and yes they are comparable, people used to talk about triple screens and gaming and always assumed the bezels would be something that they would constantly notice. After an hour or so the bezels become a non issue, but its only by trying it out first hand you could come to that conclusion. Same with gsync\freesync, there's limited ways to show that in operation via videos, a lot of the tech sites reiterated that constantly when testing it in their video reviews. Some things you just have to try first hand to see or feel the difference, pictures and videos can only tell so much of the story.

Definitely something you need to see running yourself to see the benefits. Hopefully it just becomes the default on all monitors after a certain time. Unlike gimmicks like 3D there are no drawbacks about having more vivid colours and darker darks.

I'm looking forward to it mainly for improving the contrast and black levels on LCD which is awful. As I can't afford OLED this is the next best thing :)

If it gets a big uptake further down the line and has a decent impact on visuals then its something i'll look into myself. I still remain on the fence especially after the hardware canucks video with nvidia messing with monitor settings to make hdr look better compared to a standard monitor. If its such a big night and day difference you would wonder why they had to mess with settings to make it look better instead of letting it speak for itself. It's not something i would dive into feet first without seeing that pc devs are going to make it a standard setting in games, some devs can't even be arsed with fov settings and proper graphical option settings never mind a new mode that only certain monitors can support. So for me it's something that could be worthwhile a few years down the line when there's a solid selection of games that support it and it basically becomes a standard option in pc gaming.

HDR is huge. i mean it makes a massive difference. Even on phones, which i think are probably the most pointless devices to implement HDR on, watching a HDR clip on a GS8 for example - it's the most impressive thing I've seen on a phone, hands down, ever.

It'll make the same difference on PCs for video and also for gaming if it's implemented correctly.

HDR doesn't mean darker blacks though, not for the end user anyway. 'SDR' is already capable of perfect blacks. only oled or other emissive types of display will enable darker blacks that what people are used to providing they don't already own oled panels. HDR will be used to increase the brightness and contrast. Blacks will stay the same.

There isn't a point explaining it to them. They've come up with their own conclusions.

You know what you are coming off like?

Must have been the increased brightness that made the blacks blacker than they actually were when I watched a few HDR films.

Humm, bring on OLED. Was playing RE7 and it was nowhere near dark enough on LCD.

Can't say anything about that video, but I've seen it myself and could tell the difference right away. Even my wife who has zero interest in things like this remarked on how much better the colours and lighting looked.

But you are right about games. There are so few ones that support it at the moment it isn't a huge deal to get one of these monitors yet. I'll probably get the 27 inch 4K one from ASUS or Acer that was delayed, but only because my current monitor has a really annoying cluster of stuck pixels and would love the higher PPI. I've got a 27 inch 1440p and it isn't high res enough for me - can still see the pixels in games. That it has HDR is just a bonus for the future.
