Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

Just got one of these delivered today from the rainforest. I appear to have lucked out, minimal backlight bleed and no more IPS glow than any other display I have had (including my current other display a Dell U3014).

Manufacturing date of May so a V1 I'd imagine.

That would actually suggest its a V2 considering its just less than two months if you include QC (!!!) and shipping would it not ?? The monitor was available and on sale before May.

After the apparent disappointment of the first batch, I don't know how sceptical to be about Acer sorting the issues.

I'm watching with interest though, we really need some decent competition in this segment (and whatever other features it has, I'll never be happy paying £700+ to get a panel with dodgy light bleed).

I suppose with decent aftercare / exchange policy, it wouldn't be so bad to put the money down as long as you have faith that there are some good ones out there.

...and the time/temperament to go through the returns process a few times.

Further to this. the TFT Central review states that this display only supports ULMB at a highest setting of 100Hz.

So good news then finally? Even comes with 120hz ULMB now!

Anyway, enjoy the IPS + 144hz + G-sync experience Layte, it is truly jaw dropping. I still can't get over how smooth BF4 looked when I played on it briefly.

Got my V2 arriving later today, so I'll let you guys know what the QC is like when I'm all set up :)

That would be great mate if you could let us know if there are any improvements and less issue than the previous releases.

By the way, how do you to tell if you've received a V2 version or not? I take it the way to find out is the batch date? or
does it actually say V2 on the box or printed anywhere on the screen itself?

We're not sure about the whole V2 thing but if it's manufactured in May or after we can assume these have gone through an improved process and quality control. The manufacturing date is either on the monitor in on the OSD I think. Even if they don't listen to customers I assume someone at Acer questions why there are so many returns..

I'm on the fence really. This monitor is going to last a while, until we get 4K 120hz gaming! So things like glossy bezel may be a deal breaker for me. For £700 odd I expect perfection :)

Acer dont handle returns themselves they use third parties. One for repairs/returns under RMA (in Manchester) and at least one other third party to dispose of returns that cant be repaired (near Tamworth). They also use another third party for finance eg refunds. Acer UK just seems to be made up of lots of third party companies. So it makes you wonder whether they communicate effectively.

saddest thing is i still really really want this type of monitor all acer had todo was communicate and create a bit of v2 hype and i was of been hooked right back in :*((( i still hawkishly stalk this forum when i get emails lol

they must have really dropped the ball

p.s. ive also noticed most of the other brand of monitors get the severe back light bleed mostly curved etc... :*(((

OK can someone confirm the v2 release date?, as I think I've been had, lol. March is mine, with box details of monitor deliberately covered up with address label. That was what arose my suspicion to the fact, as the box is large enough for label to be put anywhere, but just so happens to be carefully placed over the relevant details! I ain't opened it yet, and am ** Swear words should be fully starred out even if you try and disguise them ** raging!

It was advertised as a v2 model, so a case of trying to get rid of old stock I guess, but for £700+, unacceptable.

Will post pics when I get home.

BTW, wasn't bought from OC!

Are you sure a v2 model even exists? I had a check on Acer own website and there is no mention of a v2 model.

Prahaps v2 is what some people are calling the new batches that are meant to be QC.

I would check on the screen itself to see if it has the date printed on it just to be sure. If it also has March printed on it then you've definitely been had and the screen is of a older batch.

That we are. Its just a label I guess when trying to discuss the different batches. Should really be Batch A and Batch B but I guess V2 is easier.
Update: In fact I have just seen on a competitors website they are selling this monitor as V2 and in stock. Curiously enough they have got 5 reviews all giving it brilliant ratings dated May 2015.

I am waiting on mine arriving from ** No competitors ** ... should be here tomorrow can't wait! Is it likely I will have issues? Read nothing bad reports so here's hoping for a V2!

Edit - apologies, didn't even think!

I just thought I would give you guys heads up that Mark from the Acer Escalation Team sent me an email to let me know the new replacement stock is now at the distributor and now to arrange to send a replacement out to me.

Hi

I can now finally confirm that the new stock is now at the distributor.

I can order one direct from them to be shipped to the address you have provided me via their courier UK Mail

This should be next business day delivery although the distributor says delivery can sometimes take 2 working days.

Let me know when you want me to order the replacement and I will process this for you.

I also need to arrange a separate collection for the monitor you have and this will be via UPS so what day is best for you? This must be within 5 working days of the replacement being delivered?

Regards
Mark
