Adult content - Age Verification system - April 2018

After watching yesterdays debate i would think this is the work of Theresa May, her mindset is still in the 1950s when people thought all drugs were dangerous and school was the key to success in the working world. I really hope she is shunned from any future decisions made by parliament.

One one hand this is obviously a good thing (1. governments shouldn't be restricting our online activity in this way, and 2. it wouldn't work anyway), but on the other hand the porn industry is harmful, preys on vulnerable people and ruins the minds of children. I can't ever see it shutting down but one can hope.

My lad was switching on the TV, selecting netflix, then selecting the kids profile before choosing his own cartoon to watch at just past 2 years old. We'd not shown him how to do it, he'd just observed and knew how it worked.

I'm fairly sure I was still playing with my own crap at that point.

Which doesn't disagree with or contradict what I said.

Children are very app and device savvy.

When things stop working they aren't always particularly skilled at fixing them. It's not the case that all kids know how to fix Windows, Android, or can write a quick bit of code or troubleshoot when something goes wrong. That's what I call tech savvy.

Yes, using apps and phones/tablets is becoming second nature to them. But fixing being able to fix them is not dependent on your age. Ie, young people can't automatically fix their own devices.

There are already filtering/firewall devices and software to control what kids look at. They will work better than anything placed behind the ISP since there are so many ways to route around that.

For some reason no one listens to IT experts until millions has been wasted.

I'm not sure if there was a more recent thread. But I see this subject is in the news again with the Online Safety Bill.

I'm 50/50 on this. I understand the thoughts behind it. But how its setup is going to be crucial.

It's on page 2 rather than a 2yr old bump that you did!
