advice needed, I'm thinking of changing to 40"

my current MSI IPS panel is good, and to be honest, i don't think it will bother me or notice it
It's never bothered me on ips panels

And it is what it is
Until you step up to oled prices
It's what you get for the money ips or va
Still some drawbacks which probably aren't as
Severe as reviews show
Pure black screen in a dark room etc
To show ips glow
It's not realistic use of a monitor

That's quite an unusual panel size I must admit
Don't think have seen a 40 screen at that resolution

I can't see much wrong with that one for the price
Other than it's too wide for me personally

Oled's are dropping down so not far off "affordable prices"

Can't complaing £550 for such a big oled , once they start reaching £300 probably would be death of LCD's?

Yeah it's a good price
Probably Phillips are trying to get known
In the monitor market not just for tvs
The only thing put me off that monitor is it's ambiglow
Not ambilight
I love the ambilight on my Phillips tv
But they put a cut down version in the monitor sadly

Sounds like a sensible choice

The MSI 40" 2K screen vs a 34" 2K screen
non OLED Vs OLED

price comparison is £350 - £550

the 34" is £200 more than a 40" (regardless of panel)

I think as @Armageus said, at that ratio the ppi differences might make the 34" text not as sharp as the 40" and i'll end up being in the same position again (possibly, i don't know for sure)

Also I cant see that oled screen is worth more than a 40" screen personally

Quality over size tbh. Although it's nice to have both, but if it's like £1000 for a 27" OLED then that's out of reach of myself.

£200 more for a better quality screen , even if it's smaller isn't an exorbitant amount tbh

Although would be good once 27" 1440p oled are £300

Also find out what ips panels are in the monitor they're not all the same the really low end ones have 45% colour gamut

That 40 panel gets decent reviews

Assuming the price difference doesn't matter
To you
Ie you could afford the oled
What % of each thing roughly do you do?
If its mostly gaming and videos
Yes the oled is a better choice
Richer colour,infinite black,instantaneous response
Better HDR

If its mostly Internet browsing
Word documents etc
The 40 ips probably the better choice
As oled does carry some burn in risk
With more static stuff
Though most manufacturers offer 3 year burn in warranty now

Same as any newer tech though
You pay a premium
Oled is the newer tech though prices are gradually
Coming down

Edit
Should say
I went through all the indecision stuff too
Went round in circles with it all
In the end I said #### it
Getting old and in poor health i can afford the 34 oled
You only live once
It's turned out it's ideal size
Great for gaming, great for video though some
Streaming services still don't do ultra wide format yet
It's great for browsing or office work
Can have 2 things open at once side by side and fits perfectly
I don't regret the £600 the oled cost me

i think you've just hit the nail on the head

although Id like to game all evening, i don't, i dont feel like i want to play half the time, so i do browsing and videos more than gaming now which is why i said in an earlier statement i wanted to avoid OLED because of the burn in

Whenever I sit down to game these days, I just find myself browsing the net or watching YouTube videos. Gaming isn't what it was for me, or maybe I'm just getting old :p

I'd love to go all in on an oled, but just don't feel it's worth it unless you game. My next monitor will probably LCD again.

I've a 42" LG oled screen.. But for a desktop monitor it's simply too big.

I think for desktop.. 32" or 27" is the correct size.

If you have to move your head to see things then your screen is too big! Focus on a smaller but better quality screen for desktop use.
