Aero/Gains Thread

Would be interesting for sure! Let us know what sort of pricing it is approx. I won't ever bother with Zipp, too pricey for me, be a FFWD disc and F6R front for me in the future.

Just bought an immaculate Kask Bambino off TT forum so will have it for my next 10 on Wednesday. It'll be worth 30 seconds hopefully hehe.

Will do! Looks about 150 for a front I think. Need to get them to price it up for that alone. Not really after a rear 80mm altho could use for training if I got it in a clincher.

What helmet you running currently? I'm possibly looking at trying to squeeze my bonce into something smaller, cda from medium to small for my javelin is about 7w equivalent.

It's too triathlony for me.
:p

Bloody Triathlon bikes! :-P

Kask Mojito road helmet :p so anything is going to be a step up big time for me aero wise haha.
I could not fit into a size small anything, worried the medium Bambino coming might be a bit tight. I am skinny minny but I have a big head. It's because my brain is so big you see :)

I'm thinking of moving the saddle back a bit and maybe a tiny bit higher. Unfortunately, I don't think I can reduce my stack height any further unless I replaced the entire cockpit.

Does look like the saddle height could go up a bit but you are virtually sitting on the nose of the saddle already so not sure moving the saddle back will help that much unless you sit further back as your knee is quite a bit in front of the pedal spindle? That would flatten you out a bit.

I would say at this point I don't ride TT so know **** all other than the pros ride with flat backs. Just thinking out loud about the mechanics of it whilst trying to maintain good riding form

I think my TT position still needs some work!

You definitely need to get back in my opinion. Would say even with a cockpit change, getting lower/flatter will be a big benefit. I'm trying to get a side on view of my position so I can get a proper appreciation of it. Got to get some bars to stretch myself out, but it's a nightmare finding ones long enough.

I went for a ride with my saddle further back. Subjectively feels a bit more aero but power output feels less. I wonder if I should raise it too.

The cockpit currently cannot be changed any more. Stem is slammed and it's -35 degrees!

Yeah I did but it's still difficult to compare to other efforts as the wind speed, air pressure and fatigue levels are all different.

For a lap of RP today I did 18:08 @ 187W.

Similar efforts in the last month:

17:59 @ 184W
18:12 @ 179W
17:34 @ 192W
17:37 @ 190W

Just wondered if your subjective lower power output due to change of position translated into lower measured power. Looking at that, for comparable times it hasn't really made much difference at all or a very minor power increase.

Shamrock - You definitely need to be sitting further back, you look almost in front of your BB position wise in that picture. I think if you raise your bar extensions slightly and be sitting further back plus raise your saddle in tiny increments you should get a better position.

SoliD - Amazing work, very well done. I am utterly baffled again at the times you are achieving on the watts, you are absolutely nailling the aero! :D
I think I am going to have to come and crash at yours some time and nail some TT's on your courses also, they look faaaast!
What was weather like for the area during the TT?
Got a 10 tomorrow night, <1000hPa forecast but cold and rain... ugh!

I'll play around with the position and try it in the second RP TT on July 10.

I have to keep in mind my current set up is fairly comfortable for long distance and I will be racing an Ironman soon! Don't want to come off the bike feeling crippled before running a marathon.

Talking to a friend who finished about 20s off me, he is only putting out 210ishW!!!

Then talking to my aero mate, he reckons I can get sub 53 and sub 21 on just current power. That course is quick, good smooth tarmac. Weather was ok, not sure on pressure, but SW wind of about 12mph. 50 on Sunday for me, hoping to get under 1:54 if I'm honest! :D

That time is only with a 50mm chinese carbon clincher too, so reckon few watts to be saved from a new front, and new disc will be ordered soon as my Corima is a good 4/5 years old and isn't exactly a flat surface any more.

Aero Gains!

Smashed a local 25 tonight, it's a quick course, although not especially flat, but has a nice downhill at the beginning. Previous 25 PB 58:34.

Tonight 55:08 with 248W! :D Ecstatic. Would have been sub 55 if I didn't have to come to a stop at the roundabout about 13miles in.

That's a great ride, congratulations. Looks like a good course too - shame it's bloody miles away!
