Aero/Gains Thread

I just received my carbon rails Fizik Arione K3. It's a lovely saddle. I have Arione R3 on winter bike and Arione R1 on race bike so thought this would be a good shout to try.
I have the Fizik Tritone on my TT bike just now and tried tweaking and adjusting a lot but I cannot get on with it. Most people I know use one, but it's just not for me so is for sale on the TT forum now to fund the K3 purchase. I think the Tritone is too wide on the front for me, I like it being cut short to hang off the nose of it but it's way too wide as I am very narrow it seems so just doesn't work for me.

Other change is my bar extensions. Below is a chart, I currently have the T5+ and my girlfriend bought me the T4+ which still to fit but reckon these will suit me a lot more -

I also have my skinsuit back which was @ NoPinz and has had the aero speed pocket added :) Super neat job, very professional and quick turnaround so could not hesitate in recommending NoPinz to anyone considering it.

I still have not done any form of aero testing until I get comfortable and happy on my TT bike as that's something I haven't achieved yet. I am very narrow on the front which is a huge advantage so once I get comfy and tweaking I think big gains can be made.

If you have the T4+ bars that means you now have the L1 under-bar bracket?

My most recent changes were an L1 bracket and a -60 degree stem to get as low as I can at the front. I don't really see how I can make my pads any narrower. I think the new helmet is better and so I'm trying to sell my Bambino.

Some pics from the London Tri and a clip my mum took with a potato camera. She was clearly too slow to keep up!:p

I don't have the L1, however, I didn't even know about it so thanks very much pal you have helped me a lot by mentioning that!!
I was complaining I couldn't get my pads any narrower at the front and that L1 bracket will allow me to do that and go a little lower on the front, which is another thing I could possibly do with is slightly lower. I think I am stuck with the stem I have but looking at that L1 I can't tell you how much you helped me right now! :)
Where did you buy the L1 bracket from?
Which Bambino do you have? Year and is it Pro? Which visor?

Also, dem biceps!

Yeah I was looking for any way possible to lower my front end without having to buy a new frame/bike. The L1 gets me down 25mm and the -60 stem a bit more (can't remember how much now but there is a stem comparison website here http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/stem.php).

It's a bit unsightly and the extensions under the base bar means no more track standing as they hit the frame when you turn too far. Not the end of the world!:D

Annoyingly, you can't get the bracket alone in the UK so the only way was to buy a V4 (my mistake, not T4) http://www.wiggle.co.uk/profile-design-v4-aluminium-aerobar/. So I ended up with some spare extensions, arm pads and a lighter wallet as a result.:(

It's a 2014 Bambino in size M with mirror visor. I've attached some stronger magnets to get around the loose visor which they fixed in the 2015 version I believe.

Ahh, exact same Bambino as mine! I want a mirrored visor, found one on eBay but it's £60 might just take the punt. If you stick your helmet on TT forum it will definitely sell!

Funny enough I was just looking at Profile Design stuff on Wiggle when I read your reply. Was hoping you'd say you found the bracket somewhere and it was a tenner :p PD stuff seems to be a pain to get stock wise anywhere. My girlfriend had big problems when she ordered my extensions, ended up getting 10% of price refunded as they mucked about so much.

Dumoulin's position is insane!

Where are you getting all these bars from?

She found and bought them on Tredz for me - http://www.tredz.co.uk/profile-design-aeroslashtri-bars

However, they did say they were in stock, then proceeded to take over a week to even post them out. So I am assuming they don't hold much PD stock (like everywhere!) and order from Germany and then send out to you. Basically they are a middle man and would be easier to order from PD directly, but hey, nothing is ever that straight forward

After actually measuring my bars properly yesterday I have bought 3 different sets from Wiggle to size up before plumping. Various designs all slightly longer.

Really narrowed my pads now, so they're only about 2cm apart, and tested this morning, thought they were too narrow but surprisingly didn't ache at all when I finished. Will give them a go next Saturday on a 10 and see how they go, will chuck the new bars in. Definitely felt aero when I was riding into the headwind at 17-18mph without really pushing.

Think I'm going to go for some ski ones as this is how my hands feel most comfy when in position, but will see what they're all like when they turn up. Just keeping eye out for big dish front now!

Quick photo from my first ever TT ride!

I knew the pads had to go wider as they were uncomfortable, but wow they look narrow.

Maybe go a touch up on the saddle if I can to get my arse higher/head lower?

You can see the issue I was having, elbow/knee interaction!

100% as the product description lists it as being "drilled for cables" :p

Exactly what I thought. They're hollow.... I'm contemplating using that as an excuse to fit them to know if they fit me before saying didn't notice before fitting so they will be marked if I return because I don't like them.

Raised my saddle a touch, moved the pads wider and the whole stem/bars up 5mm.

Almost no knee/elbow interaction now. More comfortable for the arms, I found I could relax a bit more which in turn relieved pressure on my upper body.

I think I can extend the bars a bit still though which might help drop my head. How do you know when to go longer on stem, rather than increasing length of aero bars, or is it just to stay UCI legal?

When was the last time you rode a UCI race?

Bikes get scruitineered at state events....

But it was more of a question if you gain anything from moving the bars or lengthening the stem. All I can think of is moving the stem longer makes the steering less twitchy.

And they definitely run uci rules? Don't know the answer tbh. I'd generally use the bars first.why spend when you have movement available?

Finally managed to go to an event with a decent photographer! Critique please. Struggling to think as looks like I can get lower, but will close off hip flexor. Possibly lower saddle and push back? My front is very narrow, but got some ski bends on the way to stretch me out a bit and put my hands in a more natural/comfortable position.
