Afghanistan - 20 years on

I'd call thier bluff IF we had the airlift capabilities, the air support and the rest of it if it went pear shaped.

We don't.

It's once again showing how underfunded our forces, as are the rest of the EU's actually are, despite the Russian/Chinese aggressive stances plus Iran etc etc.

The UK haven't got that kind of cash anymore.
God knows where it all goes to.

When I was a kid they was throwing money at the forces.

I'd call there bluff.
All there cash is in the US banks, so biden could with hold it.

I doubt they care about cash that they probably think they won't get access to regardless of what they do or don't do when the alternative is that they look weak by letting this continue.

He is late again.

I really do wonder if the delays are just solely due to his handlers being forced to keep Joe repeating his script over and and over and over again until he can do it correctly without drifting off topic or forgetting (even though it's also on a prompter).

Usually I'd say it could be due to the circumstances changing so rapidly that the script might also need to change constantly but, when you hear what Joe reads out, there's no "up to date" info thats minutes old etc just the same stuff thats been on the news, so I can't see that being the reason for the constant delays with his briefs.

Rory Stewart seems to mostly talk a lot of sense(at least to me)

Tonight I watched part 1 of his documentary; Afghanistan, the great game, downloaded from BBC2.
It was the very definition of lessons will be learned, NOT!!!
As learned Afghans kept telling him, “Getting into Afghanistan is easy, it’s getting out that’s difficult.”

does anyone believe the afghan popstar on skynews actually escaped from afghanistan?

don't those types like to take loads of selfies and videos but all we have is her word it seems

Biden needs to politely f off over the handling of this now, as for the other wastes of spaces too concerned about the wording of a question at a press conference... seriously, thats typical attitude of these balloons, too worried about being offended by a question. Far away from the reality of the actual world. There is definitely a different planet these weirdos must day dream into regularly... and all their supporters

Why is Biden being blamed? UK Nato is as much alert of this as them.
This is nothing but the end result of years of different leaders administrations changes in policies over 20 years.

I'm not sure what the UK could have done, other than maybe have understood how fast this was probably going to go wrong in the last few weeks when the signs where there.

The UK wasn't part of the reasons why this has gone wrong - we did our best as far as I can see it while involved with the US in Afghanistan and even now as can be seen with the actions of 2 Para going above and beyond where we can.

Maybe we could have done things better over the years but that is another story again and only marginally part of why this has turned into a shambles at the end.

Are people still of the belief that this would have gone any other way? We stay their for another 20 years hey, guess what, exact same thing would happen. This was always the end result. Always. Have known several doing work there. Engineers putting in water pumps only to come back 2 weeks later and thr metal ripped out and the Taliban seal it upx leaving them with no fresh water. People seem to think we changed things. We didn't we never did we never where going to change the minds of tibal communities with 50 bloody leaders in each one. Most must think it was like a mini US state or so thing.

This is about the shambles at the end not the, almost, foregone conclusion. A lot could have been done differently (or even just done at all) in the last few months.

Although that could have actually given the Afghans a chance rather than pretty much none at all but I don't ultimately see things going much different in the longer run.

Seems quite a few people made a nice bit of money and the adventures had their fun too.

Ohh yea, leaders handed thousands to build stuff and it never happened. Here 20k, buld a school nope never happened. 3k build a well nope never happened. 12 years of that. Local communities tribes leaders community leaders, guess what they did nothing for their people.

Maybe, gonna be year to see the actually physical removal of bases and troop removal etc. Their was no way though to remove bases without breaking a chain in defence and risk lives though. Honestly, bandaid rip is possibly the best way.
