Afghanistan - 20 years on

It isn't irrelevant but nice waffle as usual. It's funny you mention how one conducts oneself as Biden's conduct isn't one of a man where the buck stops at him. And yes, words start to lose meaning if they contradict previous words and actions. I mean, you only have to look at his predecessor for that.
Yea, no, it is. If it's not how about you try explaining how it being his only statement (it's not) is relevant to the fact that "Binden is saying it's everyone's elses fault but his, even though He was in charge.". Because if it's his only statement or one of many millions it still doesn't change the fact that Biden has not said, suggested, or even implied that it is not his fault, does it.

Also is calling something 'waffle' a standard retort when you lack the acuity to actually respond in a reasoned manner. Also, also, i didn't say "how one conducts oneself", i said "that maybe how you conduct yourself"

Sure words start to lose meaning, like yours do, when someone contradict previous words and actions. But you've presented nothing to show Biden has done that, all you've done is tar him with the same brush of previous POTUS or politicians.

I haven't contradicted myself once, if you'd look back at the posts you would realise it's Biden who has done that with the various statements being quoted and that he's made. Your strawman is on another level.

The fact you think I'm tarring him with the same brush as Trump is hilarious and probably why it's elicited this response from you.

If you're happy to take Biden's word for it that the buck stops with him then be my guest. It's factually incorrect even if we ignore what Deuse said, his Biden hate is obvious.

If you want specifics then we can go over some of his press conferences in recent weeks, although they've already been done to death in this thread.

Does it?

Surely it would be much worse if the transcript indicated he knew their army/Government was going to fall?

At least we have transcripts now as well...

You seem to be doing a lot of but but but Trump today... Trump set a low bar that doesn't excuse Biden.

It mentions in the article that they weren't authorised to publish that transcript anyhow - we only have reuter's word it is genuine but seems unlikely it isn't genuine.

We've already been told once folks, there's a thread in SC for all this Trump vs Biden rubbish, it'd be nice if users could limit the political stuff to specific Afghan related stuff like Trump's deal or Biden's handling of the evacuation only please, before the mods are forced to act again.

Nice waffle as usual. :D

I have a tough one with that - there is almost a whole generation whose hope and dreams are going to be crushed under the Taliban and only a fraction of them will ever make it out.

There are no shortage of countries where the citizens are oppressed. I'd love it if we could help them all but being an occupying force to force change on a country might work in the short term, at great cost but you have to be there for generations for it to take. Plus this is a country with extreme religious views and is barely even a country, more a collection of tribal regions.

Chinooks and Hughes 500s aren’t quite the maintenance nightmare that the Blackhawks are. Chinooks are rather like old Triumph motorcycles in that if they’re not actively leaking fluids, they’re already dry.

There are no Chinooks there or in the footage. There are Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knights.

Your comment on leaks is somewhat accurate, they did leak a little but not a lot. most daily top ups were for the main rotor blade and vertical hinge pin reservoirs and the orange seals on the pins wear and the seep a little OX-26 continuously.

I worked on Chinooks between 1990 and 1996.

It might be that those vehicles left unusable by the US aren't as unusable as made out
let's face it those countries have a lot of people who know how to repair stuff, unless it needs something made with precision engineering or some hardened alloy they can probably bodge it

they aren't as backwards as people think and they will get help from Qatar or china.

UK would probably give them spare parts in return for refugees but never make it public

I lived in Zambia for a while and it amazed me when guys working on the side of the road could repair with not much more than a hammer, some old tyre cut into strings and a few other simple tools.

I sit corrected.

Extremely unlikely as there seems to no UK manufactured hardware there.
someone sure suggested it I bet :p
our gov seems to think every migrant they take is like winning a war.

already been talk about working with the taliban.... like wtf are they not classed as terrorists still?
oh wait now we have ISIS K

Funny how no one cares about what goes on in Africa, China and NK.

you'd think Afghanistan was the only place on the planet with suffering but there are places far worse.

civil wars going on in africa for over 60 years etc

Remember blackhawk down? that country never got fixed
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/somalia

still over 2.6mil displaced people in Somalia even

Trying to talk to Africa, China and NK is like talking to a post. We already know that.

People are hoping the Taliban have changed and are giving them a chance, but they probably haven't. Not the foot soldiers at least who are high on drugs most of the time.

Called by people earlier in the thread

China will be the Taliban's "main partner" and will help rebuild Afghanistan, according to a spokesperson for the group.

"China will be our main partner and represents a great opportunity for us because it is ready to invest in our country and support reconstruction efforts," Zabihullah Mujahid said in an interview published by Italian newspaper La Repubblica Wednesday.

He said the Taliban value China's Belt and Road Initiative as the project "will revive the ancient Silk Road."

He said China will also help Afghanistan fully utilize its rich copper resources and give the country a path into global markets.

The Taliban also view Russia as an important partner in the region and will maintain good relations with Moscow, he added.
