Afghanistan - 20 years on

People don't quite realise this. America didn't even take territory permanently following WW2 when they rightly defeated Japan and kicked them out of South East Asia, America still handed back Japan to the Japanese. Compare the likes of China and Russia to America objectively and even though America isn't perfect they're a damn sight better than most countries.

If only America and Britain hadn’t handed SE Asia back to the French after WW2 AND after training a chap named Ho Chi Minh and some of his friends to fight the Japanese and leave them with a big old pile of guns and munitions.

What would the point and out come be? they already took anything of value, they have been fighting for 20 years for the worse.

Well that would be a lot of territories but I don't think it would look good for them (warmongers) that's why they don't do it, they like to look good on the outside even if on the inside its different, plus I don't think it would work out in the modern age.

It is rather curious timing.

Apparently Imran has been too friendly towards Russia (He was visiting Putin the day the war broke out) while the Army prefers being friendly to the US so they want him gone

That will be an interesting one - IIRC they have a heavy American backed protection force for their nuclear arsenal.

It will be interesting to see what India does as well if there is civil war in their next door neighbour who they don't have good history with

The PM has initiated this to basically head off the opposition in Pakistan. Assuming the SC approves this, there will be another election. After years of corruption in pakistan, there was a lot of hope when Imran Khan came to power, but covid has hampered any potential progress, inflation is crazy high and the ordinary man is suffering. Ids be surprised if IK gets back in. I wouldnt say there is any risk of civil war or any increased issues with India. Its surprising how much of asia has been neutral when it comes to the russian invasion, the Americans have really been losing hearts and minds, even the Arabs have been fairly neutral.

the Americans have really been losing hearts and minds

IMO I think its down to how The US has been treating others over the years, like a school bully that makes you think they are your friend and have your back you need to have theirs (UK) but really they just use you to get what they want, make you do what they want, then turn their backs and blame you later, when your not as useful, even replace the head of your country if you don't do what they want (lot of example online).

Some example
Iraq (US Backed/ally till they could not replace sadam, No WOMD)
Afghanistan (US backed/ally) (both had been western and modern in the 70s no idea what happened will need to look it up)
before someone says they attracted the US blew up the twin towers, I was one group of a few people not the whole country and the group that did it was US made.
also IRA bombed England but England did not go to Ireland and destroy the whole country and stay their for the next 20 years taking what they could.

if you have no power you cant stand up to bully's and that's the case with most nations and just need to agree.

That's why a lot of countries are turning to China and Russia hoping they will have some protection and get treated better. even when they know what they are like because no choice and they have see how the US treats them, people start to see you for what you are sooner or later.

example: Africa they have been left for dead for years now they have turned to china, even with the cost involved its still better for them compared to before.
I cant think of any thing to suggest they have been good to others except Israel

Ill be honest I do wish some places could be a little more westernised a little not fully, keeping religion and the culture, Any places that have managed this ?

Yeah but the US spent the rest of the Cold War preventing the emergence of democracy in a bunch of different nations, propping up dictators and tyrants, and overthrowing democratically elected leaders. So the fact that they played by the rules at the end of WWII doesn't mean much, particularly since they capped off that conflict with two of the greatest war crimes ever committed in human history.

True. England just invaded Ireland and started a military occupation that's lasted nearly 1,000 years so far, causing incalculable damage in the process and leaving the north of the country so completely ****** up that the occasional IRA kneecapping is now regarded as light entertainment.

I was thinking the same, its still going on today
What are the two of the greatest war crimes ever committed in human history.

So your saying Ireland is the same or much worser ?

You're both talking gibberish. The IRA bombing England was due to Northern Ireland, not the Republic of Ireland. NI is part of the UK.
England can't go NI and destroy it because its already there. It never left. Technically England would be invading the UK and destroying it.

My point is England could have blame IRA on Ireland not NI, see them as terrorist sent from Ireland, see it as a terrorist act and invaded it.

You should really check your facts before commenting on it.

What you said was gibberish.

Last time it lead to a famine which spread millions of Irish around the world

32 million Americans — 9.7% of the total population — identified as being Irish in the 2019 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Not in the troubles 'England' (the UK) didn't. Unless you think that not immediately handing NI over to the Republic as soon as the first bomb went off counts as a military occupation... Seems like a weird way to define a military occupation. Unless you count every single bit of territory which ever changed hands due to military force as a 'military occupation', which would be somewhere around 100% of the Earth's surface.

Pakistan is strongly Anti American pretty much pulled in the opposed direction in Afghanistan.

you can clear up the facts for me if you think ive got things wrong.

Last time it lead to a famine which spread millions of Irish around the world
How long ago was that ? in the past 30-50 years ?

The British army moved into NI in 1969. Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA) formed in 1969. Without making any judgement on either, when you have the army on the streets, and fortified bases, armored cars etc. Its not exactly a love parade.

Which "fact" do you need explaining and/or are disputing.
