Age of Conan

I got my download sometime last week took about 8 hours i think did it through the night anyway at about 40-60 mins a file. Not sure if its even worth the wait to do a 3 hour Stress Test. 12gb download then 35gb or something installation.

to be honest ill agree its buggy, but the amount they are patching is promising.
Lets face it mmos dont come out without bugs, and they are fast at getting the patches out it would seem, so id expect it to just come out with a fair few bugs and all the majors be patched within 3 weeks or so, since a retail release is a far better beta test than a closed beta could ever be.

I personally dont find the game very fun at the moment though.

You can do what you want.

but the main tech session this weekend is the trading part.

I'll be leveling as high as poss. so i know the area and the quests as well as poss. While still doing the stress testing.

More bugs ect that you find the quicker your put into general :)

Does anyone know if we get the War Rhino offered on some pre-orders with the Collector's Edition? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it and I'm not sure if I want the mount or the XP bonus ring/drinking cape.

All depends on where you order.

I got my from play, so im getting the war rhino, 8 slots and 3 day pre play.

Not true, no matter what they tell you, it is random. Various people in my guild have been upgraded from tech to general with some having reported bugs and others not even having logged into a tech test or posted on the forums.

The only exception was the test where they stressed the account creation and then upgraded the first 250 to create one.

There seems to be a fairly mixed bag of comments about whether or not this is going to be a WoW beater (in terms of content if not subscriptions). Although this thread is a small sample, the number of negative comments don't bode well in my opinion.

Levelling is much more fun than in WoW (for me), and since it's also faster, I'll enjoy it more than WoW (Levelling is my most hated aspect of games... I can never wait to get to top level and start raiding)

Hmmm, worrying. Its all about the journey for me, not the destination. If its much faster to level than WoW (which is pretty fast, imo) then it may not have much longevity for me. :(

Its not really faster, it's about the same. Those that claim to have reached 80 in the quickest times made use of exploits available to them at the time like one shot kills.

People need to stop comparing new MMO's to wow,
WOW came out at a time when MMO market was dead Lineage 2 had just died down, and look at what came out since WOW.

Also anyone who played wow beta would tell you it was 50,000x time’s worse than the AOC beta, wow beta I used to fall through the map every 35 seconds not to mention the 1000's of bugs, also no talent points...

You are comparing a game that’s about a year or so in dev to a game going on for 5 years if you count dev time.

WoW had hardly anything end game at launch, neither did Lotro, or Lineage II, or DDO.

I intend to take my time, spend as much time in the naive phase were you do rally know what's going as possible, its the part I love. When it all becomes about numbers I'll probably quite for a few month then go back to make another character, till the LotrO expansion comes out, never did get to 50.

People will compare it to WoW tho, it's the same genre and it's the most popular, well known etc. Just the way the world works.

No they don't. WoW is the current benchmark that (like it or not) all new MMO developers are aspiring to. Whatever you think of WoW, it has been hugely successful and people want a slice of the pie.

While the MMO market certainly hasn't reached saturation, a large part of that market is already playing WoW. Arguably in order to succeed (in terms of what the developers and publishers would wish for), they have to not only poach subscribers from WoW, but keep them subscribing to their new game for more than a month.

This is what interests me - I'm currently a happy WoW player, but AoC also looks like it might be good as well. Given that I have time for only one game, is it good enough to steal my custom and retain it?

Urm, WoW is its main competitor, they are supposed to be compared.

WoW beta was not 50,000x worse, it was about the same.

1000s of bugs, no talent points, so thats the same as AoCs bugfest and the chunks of the game that are not avail in beta?

Dont know how you managed to fall through the map.. maybes you were just doing something none of the rest of us were.
This is from WoW closed+open beta btw.

Doesn't need to be delayed.

The game is running about 50% better after the latest patch.

As for important player concepts, well they a sure us they've been tested enough internally.

If you think so negatively about it, let Funcom know and they've happily give your beta key to someone else who's willing to test the game rather then spend there time whining.

Actually Teki..I have already done that, already told them that they can remove my beta access.

To be honest, at times I am very puzzled by your posts regarding AoC, one minute the posts are favourable, the next minute you are complaining about the game.

And seriously, you surely cannot believe that testing things in "private" beta is a good enough test for entire game concepts..thorough testing requires hundreds, preferably thousands to test, not 30 people. Just look at all the stuff that currently hasnt got to public test..the DX10 client, siege weapons, city sieges, battlekeep sieges, complete city construction, high level crafting, high level large scale open PvP. These things all need to be tested by the masses, yet they still are not in to test.

By your own admission , you yourself rated AoC PvP as -4 on a scale of 1-10, and that was just 7 days ago that you said that. Less than 1 month ago you declared that if the game was ready on the 23rd of May you would eat your feet. Simply put, I am finding it hard to find any consistency to your posts, one minute its praise and condemning of anyone who has anything bad to say about AoC, the next minute you yourself are saying bad things about AoC.

Like I say, I've already given my key back to Funcom as its only fair because I dont use it anymore due to my disappointment with its , in my opinion, over the top instancing and lack of full testing of game concepts.

Certainly though I am very much looking forward to peoples post at release, especially yours :)

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I heard a rumour that the War Rhino was US only but I hope it's not true and don't see why it should be.

From what I've read about AoC (not in beta), the devs are aiming AoC at a niche market (though I've yet to hear what they think the niche is) rather than WoW's mainstream target audience. It will not be for everyone, and it will not be a WoW killer.
