Age of Conan

So....been looking forward to this. Reading a lot of mixed reviews here though.

Been playing GW on/off for 3 years now. Not a PvP player though. I can't commit to being online at certain times etc

Can anyone provide a non-bias opinion?

Tech test last night was really really laggy.

Everytime you interfered with a NPC it would lag. I'm 90% sure this was due to the large amount of patches being put on during game play.

I had about 45 minutes of good, lag free game play on tech 2 until the server was taken down. Went onto tech 1 and it was a lag fest :(

I was on for the whole 3hours. Got on the server straight away. It was fine at the start fro the first half hour. When i got the city it started to lag.

When the server went down for the 5mb patch halfway through. I noticed that AOC was using over 1.2gb of ram. So i threw in another 2gb of RAM, game runs a lot better.

So if anyone wants to play the game - get 4gb of ram! I was running full everything at 1680x1050 and was getting about 20-30fps it was smooth. And looked amazing. Apart from the 2D bushes that turned with you - but that will soon get sorted ;)

Gunna install vista before next week so i can try it with the full 4gb and DX10 :)

Playing last night making me think i might get a 3870x2 now. But i'll prob wait and get a 9900gtx on release.

Really can't wait now. It was 5weeks on saturday until the 3day early access day. Really looking forward to next weekends PVP test gunna be great fun.

As Funcom's Anarchy Online launch has been brought up I thought it might be educational for people to read a funny review of that event over here

I pre-ordered AoC a while ago, hopefully I'll get a chance to sample a bit of PvP if I get into the weekend event via Gamespot.

Agree with that review - hence why I don't have high hopes for this. Imagine it may be several months before it's fully playable.

20th of May is release. a lot of people are receiving there pre-orders now. Registration of accounts starts on the 2nd. Preorder now get the freemount and 3day early access pass :)

Its soo worth pre ordering.

I can't understand why anyone would pre-order this (especially with the amount of patches they are throwing at it and the sizes of the patches is ridiculous).

I think if you do pre-order you will have several weeks of frustration (my experience with FunCom). Yes you get a couple of nice things and you get to start a little before the retail people (I use the word start in very loose terms) but I'd wait to make sure that it is actually playable before you invest your cash into it. I'm sure there will be 14 day trials and what have you a little after release to see if it's worth buying and I'm sure there will be collectors editions release with the horse, etc.

Just my opinion but I think you should think very hard before you invest in something made by these guys.

I can never understand why anyone would want to get ANY mmo on the day of release. It's always chaos, down servers, congested logins, horrible lag, and angry players.

Wait a couple of weeks for things to calm down, and you get to see what the game is actually like behind all the launch day horrors.

So true. Many a time starting at launch has put me off a game so why am I again so tempted to push the order button.

Someone please stop me.

That is correct for Europe. Official release date 23rd May and 20th of May with the 3 day head start. Official release date in the US 20th May and 17th May with the 3 day head start.

I'm getting the US version as all the guys I play with are in the States.

Ditto, i run a rather large multi-game guild of which the bulk of us have been waiting for AoC for years and are moving there en masse. Probably the larger percentage of them are from the US but tbh there will be more competition there and competition for longer. EU servers of games that ive played have always been quieter and died off quicker than their US counterparts.

Ah, I'll have to track you down at release. It's always good to find people from my timezone when playing on US servers :)
