Air conditioning units?!

just got my 149.99 9000btu unit from homebase.....

some pointers (most already mentioned)
hose is too short
power lead is too short
compressor is slightly noisy... how people run MachII's or Vapochills i dont know!!
Open window for temp hot air exit just means you loose the cold anyway....

i could really do with a 4000-5000btu unit that i can stick in the corner of my room, but i cant find any in the UK

room temp has dropped from 33c to 25c after only 20minutes. Humidity has fallen through the floor :D

i think its the water cooled ones.

One a side note, i finnaly got a thermostat today.

Temp. in house: ranges from 27-32c

Temp in my room: 14-18c :D:D

Loads of grass and dust in the rear air intakes though, need to unscew the back and hoover it all out. :(

I also found a good use for the hot air exhust, you can use it as a hair dryer in the morning and something to dry water quickly. :D

you mean those units you poor water into and push your humidity past 80% after a few hours???

you should be gutted no matter how much you paid for it ;)

I got exactly the same A/C unit myself a couple of days ago, agreed about the pipe being too short as at the moment it's hanging over the edge of the window so i've had to leave it completely open and half the hot air recirculates in the room because it's not out the window properly :( So i'm going to find some more pipe for it.

As for loudness, I completely agree that it would be very difficult to sleep with it on. But i'm going to try one day just to see if I can, after all it's just a constant noise rather than voices so would be less distracting.

Trying to figure out whether it was worth the £150 now that it's cooled down a bit. The most annoying thing is I've hardly used it because everytime I turn it on it blows right at me and I can't stop that because theres no other position I can have it without the pipe not reaching. Sitting here slightly hot but undecided whether to turn it on simply because it blows cold air on me!
 
Find mine (B&Q 9000BTU) too loud to sleep. It's the condensor which makes most of the racket - when the thermostat trips and it switches to just fan it's bearable, but then BBBRRRRRMM the condensor kicks back in and sleep is a no-no.

You really need a split system to enable you to get to sleep - sticks all the noisy gubbins outside and you just get the fan inside.
 
Ah you lot are sensitive :p Me and the GF have slept with ours on four nights now, its loud but its either that or the heat!

Another thing I have tried is putting it in the adacent bedroom and blowing the cool air across with a fan, that works ok too and keeps the noise down some.

I've used mine loads the during this period, some days I've clocked up 18 hours with it on. I carry it up and downstairs as and when we need it. I agree the hose etc is a pita and setting up sucks.

Overall though I love it, when everyone else was going 'omg I couldn't sleep, it was so sticky and humid' I was telling them how I was snuggled under a duvet with goosebumps :o

i kinda want two now, because lugging it up and down stairs every day is a Hot task in itself!!! lol

the reason i couldnt sleep with it on is

A: once the room temp is down, it says down at night (good windows/doors) It gets to a point where its TOO cold.
B: due to the size of my bed room the AC unit is RIGHT next to my pillow!!! I have it blowing over my bed, keeping that cool, then it circlates the whole room to my pcs.
 
So is the verdict that its worth getting one of these? There's been points of wearing not much and sweating gallons still!! Just have to convince myself its worth a portion of my wages to get one!! :)
