12k btu/hour is equal to 3.5kw, the btu rateing refers to how much thermal energy they shift around, and its typically at least 2x the electrical power taken to do it (that is the COP rateing)
so if your aircon really takes 3.5kw, a) its got a COPof 1 and is the most inefficent thing known to man this side of patio heaters, and b) too powerful to be run off a standard plug
In winter if your aircon has a heat function, its more efficent to use this to heat instead of a heater (because dragging heat in from the outside air gives you more heat per watt of power taken, then just converting those watts directly into heat)

Just came back earlier, was going to get the 12k BTU one but the 9k BTU one was reduced to 149.99 so I got that. Just squeezed in the back seats of the BM!
Same comments regarding the hose - too short, the power lead is even shorter.
I am suprised, we had these in an office some years back and they were rubbish but this seems different. It whacks out a lot of air, I was expecting it to be quite weedy but it is the opposite!
It seems to cool quite well, it is noisy but I knew that already. You wouldn't sleep easy with this on in a small room if you are a light sleeper....I ain't
Sorted, Sky HD, BBQ, World cup, F1 and air con....good weekend

It should be dropping below 26C. Make sure all the windows and doors are closed, and the window you are using for the pipe should be shut as much as it can. When I first got it, for some reason it did take a while to get really cool - but it works like magic now. This morning I woke up and my room was 26C, 10 mins after the air con being on it was 21C, which is much nicer.
BTW, I managed to find another bit of hose that actualy fits so it is now extended.
How cold is the air coming out? My feels absolutely freezing when I put my hand infront, make sure yours is the same because sometimes it doesn;t seem to start up properly and it blows rather warm out. Make sure the hose is completely out the window, because it blows out pretty damn hot air.
Left mine on all night, sod the bill. Cooled the whole upstairs no problems! Was so nice to snuggle up under the blanket and not be sweating!
Didn't seem to help our hayfever though, only had the one window slightly open the other side of the house for it to vent. I guess that was enough?

Will tape it up later!You are not going to beat 149.99 mate, I'm a right bargin hunter but I couldn't find anything cheaper new.
There is quite a lot inside it, a compressor, electric motor?, two radiators, some gas and a couple of big fans, they are never going to be 50 quid I'm afraid.
You could get one of the evaporative ones but while it will cool the room it will be as humid as the tropics! I have several giant ones in work before and they suck.

i got one last year but took it back the next day - it was too big, too noisy, and i didn't realise that there was such a big outlet hose that pumps out the hot air and that must be shoved out a window.
i don't know what i was expecting but it was more hassle than it was worth (this was one of the £150 ones from homebase)
