Air fryers

Thinking of getting an air fryer, but are they not a pain in the backside to clean, or can you just shove the drawers/compartments in the dishwasher?

Not sure if they all can, but with our Tefal the whole drawer and tray can go in the dishwasher. A year in and it’s survived daily dishwashings.

Thanks mate, good to hear that at least some of them can.

I am looking at getting one of the Ninja ones because they have a decent sale on that the moment, probably the AF451UK, anyone have any experience with cleaning that or if it can just go in the dishwasher?

Got a similar machine (AF300UK) + a few others and they all go into the dishwasher sometimes and have suffered no issues at all.
With the AF300UK I bought silicone liners, which cut done mess and mean the draws only need a wet wipe and an occasional dishwash.

Won't they kill the airflow though?

Good point.

I've used it so far to do mixed Med veg, chips and mixed roast veg and haven't noticed any difference between using the silicone cups and straight into the draw (regular tossing of the food as instructed with just the draw seems to work)
I am guessing that the/a stainless steel skewer racks could be used in the cups when doing food that requires airflow.

This I will try next time I make some kebabs.

I've had a Duo Pot 11 in 1 air fryer/steamer for a year or so but thought a 2nd dual air fryer would allow me to do meals a bit quicker.

I was looking at the Ninja Foodi 9L because of the Amazon Prime offers but decided to try a Lakeland 8L as it was £75 so basically half the price.
So it's been great with no issues with all the things I've tried.

I can't remember if it was the trays or the inserts that can't be machine washed but will never be an issue for me. The tray inserts have sharp edges so you have to careful of them when hand washing.

Ninja may just be better made overall but the Lakeland is fine for me. I did end up spending £150 as I bought my dad one too as he seems to struggle with his oven. Just needs a few lessons.

Just made some chips in the AF300UK using the silicone insert and they've come out fine.

I found that using liners, either silicon or paper, did affect cooking. I wanted something for when I cooked sausages to reduce the mess. The first time I used the liners I did the sausages for the same time as before without the liners and found they were nowhere near cooked so I had to do them again to get them cooked.

I've found with the chips they were around 2-3 minutes longer than usual.

Don’t see the point of the liners, just chuck the thing in the dishy once youre done.

No dishy or space in it, stick some water in it and some fairy, leave it for a bit then wipe it with a scrub daddy. Job done.

I've worked out that by using a liner now and then I save at least 15p a year by not placing the draw in the dishwasher :D

I use these glass dishes for sausages I got from procook, they fit six perfectly and cook with no mess in the air fryer

Good price.

I guess you've just got to weigh up if it is enough for a larger family, if that is what is required.
If not I can really recommend the same that has a probe.

Thanks mate

I really haven't looked. There's usually 4, 5 or 6 of us for tea so size wise should, hopefully,be sufficient:)

You are more than welcome mate.

We are just two, so have bought accordingly and even so I have to stick a real 2.4k corn feed chicken in the Speedi as it will struggle in the smaller Foodi, but will fit with ease in the Instant Pot and and and

Personally I would go with the biggest the budget could afford and end up with too much room, rather than too little.

I guess if I had to buy again now I would have gone with bigger machines, although tbh the few we have work wonders for us on a Sunday roast.

Our aging Tefal Actifry started playing two weeks ago, just stopped randomly partway through one day but I was able to restart it, but occured twice more.. it's 8 years old now and gets weekly use..

So looking at replacements, the family keep shouting Ninja/Cosori, so started looking at those and was amazed how flexible air fryers have become!

I used their 10% off + Cashback on the Ninja website to get the AF451UK, primarily as I wanted the temperature probe option, I always cook my joints in the main oven using a temperature probe and like the idea it will turn off once the core meat temp as been reached. I appreciate thats not for everyone, but considering it was only £20 more than the AF400, it seemed worth a punt.

We did a basic cod / chips meal in it which was great, the chips are as good as the actifryer (although have to shake partway through!) but the Cod (frozen) came out perfectly and all done together and certainly saved some time.
Then on Sunday I did a Gammon roast using the probe and it was faultless, set it to "medium" and it crisped the fat beautifully and was one of the best cooked joints I've done without having to watch it (just turned over approx halfware through).

However, I noticed that pulling the 2nd drawer often made this continuous two tone beep and the fan would pulse without the timer pausing, then inserting the drawer stopped it beeping, but subsequently pulling the drawer either randomly did this continuous double beep or the normal single beep/pause.. The Mrs phoned Ninja, did a video call, showed the issue and they said they'd send a replacement base unit out and to then ditch the current one.. Amazingly it arrived next day! Great CS!

I still prefer the look of the Cosori and by all accounts they perform pretty much the same, but the temperature probe feature will get a lot of use by me, I like my joints slightly under so getting it right is critical. I could just use the same Heston Blumenthal wired probe that I use in the main oven, but I like the fact it will turn off when it reaches the temp so far less chance of over cooking it since I tend to be off doing other things whilst its cooking. Since they sent a new base unit, they included a probe, so I have a spare now!

Whilst it says you can show the drawers in the dishwasher will they really hold up with their matt finish and chrome plastic accents?
