Airfix

pieman109 how have you made it look like alloy is showing through, and can we have a close up?

There ya go, all I did was carefully paint on silver paint in the areas where the most wear occurs. I used a VERY fine brush with most of the paint removed from it and slowly built up the areas, starting sparingly and then adding more paint chips where I reckoned it needed it. Took all of about 45 mins

Right here we go with another question for the more seasoned modelers, What masking tape do you guys use? Ive been using the Tamiya stuff but its getting quite expensive as it doesnt seem to last long and to be honest it still bleeds through.. Ive been thinking of some of the car body masking tape (blue/green stuff) that you can bend around curves etc..but no idea where to get that stuff..
Also is the Tamiya spraying turntable set any good?

I use tamiya tape exclusively purely 'cos I'm used to it. Ordinary masking tape is way too sticky for my use and has a tendency to pull the paintwork off with it when removed. I've used low tack masking tape before now but thats not really sticky enough, especially when used on matt paintwork.

Mix at the moment, Ive got an airbrush and compresssor but i only use it for the big areas, such as the bodys, exterior work, smaller stuff and everything else inbetween i brush (habit i guess lol). I must say i do find the tamiya stuff sticks well and doesnt bleed on a flat surface, but when i go around the nose of an aircraft it always bleeds through :(. Or any curved surface.

You need to use lots of smaller cut strips basically. The smaller the better as they can follow the shape more precisely. I find canopy masking a right chore! Does my head in, and because I've got long fingers and big hands it makes the job even harder.

I should have thought of that myself, feel stupid as hell now lol, ill give that method a go next time i need to.

I didn't mean for you to feel stupid! I've learnt so much recently, some of it from the likes of the friendly chaps on here and some of it from magazines and articles online. Trial and error mate!

Stunning pieman, very subtle weathering aswell actually works well :)

Just uploading some of my WIP and box shots, will add a couple of images rest will be in my photobucket album..not much to see really i get bored of one model quick and start another lol.
Example the Typhoon has been on the table for almost 2 years now.
Theres a lot more somewhere, just hard to remember where i put them - All of the models apart from the chieftain were/are brush painted.
Link to the album below, im not the best photographer by a long shot, and im using my X10 phone lol.

Here is one of the kits i got!

Started it today with a bit of paintwork and some putting together.

Quite fiddly. The kit gave a list of about 8 colours but only tells you where to use 3 of them!! So i might have to use a bit of artistic license on that part!

EDIT: Can anyone suggest where to find some small LED lights?

Pieman that MK1 is beautiful, love detail like that, plus bet it looks even better in Real life..

I've been out of modeling for a long time but I recently bought my mate a 1:12 scale Steve Mqueen Triumph TR6 from the Great Escape.

I made him a little Dio to scale to go with it. Not got round to persuading him to let me weather his Model bike yet though..

Had a few problems with the base, as in protective masking tape pulling off the veneer :( but you live and learn.

Well I have lots of 1:72 / 1:76 unfinished models kits to do and some figures to paint as well !
What I really need is a decent air brush, perhaps a gravity feed model, but which one.

Any suggestions please ?

I built the Airfix 1/72nd Zero kit over Christmas. These new generation of Airfix kits really are great fun to build. Looking forward to the Gnat and Skyhawk kits.

Lifecolour Acrylics are by far my favorite paints, thin them with tap water, no smell, huge range of colours, easy cleanup afterwards, and unlike Tamiya acrylics the screw cap isn't welded shut after a couple of spray sessions.

This is my airbrush - H&S Evolution, really nice bit of kit. I've also got the newer CR+ model but I'm so used to the EVo the newer brush doesn't get a look in !

I was thinking of buying this Air Brush
