Airfix

Has anyone done any WW1 or WW2 Battleships or Battlecruisers? Some good skills here, I've an Airfix Vulcan to do at some point, but it will end up as a badly painted, glue covered heap of plastic if past history is anything to go by.

Nearly finished this one, a 1/48 scale A-37 used during the Vietnam war by the USAF for ground attack, so I thought I'd post up a coupla pics. Its the old monogram kit with some resin and photo etched parts added. I had to completely rub it down smooth and rescribe all the panel lines by hands. Still needs some work on it but I reckon its good enough to post up here:)

Something I've just noticed and may be of interest to Staffordshire modellers,
http://www.emodels.co.uk is in Longton :)

I've no connection, but I prefer visiting and it looks like a big shop.
I think there is a railway shop in Stafford, I haven't been there yet though.

Looks very similar to the one posted on Britmodeller... ;)

Any tips for using filler putty? I'm almost at the stage of priming my BF110 and there's one or two small gaps between parts (wings/fuselage, engine cowl/wings etc) i'd like to fill in but never used putty before. It's 'Tamiya Putty white' by the way.

Also how should I go about masking off the cockpit? The trouble is I wanted to go for canopy doors open both front and back so I was thinking about doing the whole thing seperately because of the way they fold out...but I've no idea tbh.

Thanks!

Right im searching for blueprints or at least cross section pictures of a BF/ME-109 E-3 in 1/48th scale, ive seen people using them for scratch builds and correcting things on models but they never say where they got them from and always seem to ignore PM's or direct replys in threads (BM), Google doesnt bring up much apart from very low res stuff which doesnt look right at all - so was wondering if anyone here would have any clue.

PM sent :)

Thought I'd keep this thread going, heres a few pics of a Phantom FGR.2 I'm currently working on. Still a hell of a long way to go as I'm working on a new set of techniques to weather the paintwork. just go a basic paint job done and applied the first wash to pull out the panel lines.

A bit of progress on my Revell 1:25 Jaguar E-Type:

Added extra detail in the form of ignition leads made from 0.5mm copper wire, coloured black with sharpie pen, spark plug boots made from short lengths of spare tamiya thin rubber pipe from an earlier motorbike build. Battery leads (which lead to nowhere...) made from the same copper wire.

Nice work there so far mate, would like to see that when finished.

Big thanks to Pieman for sorting me out with some plans for a 109E, much appreciated fella and will help correct any small details in rivets and panel lines (not expecting much with the eduard kit, but others will be handy)

On that subject, im going to be building the 109 with the engine cover off, so looking at trying to super detail it, with sanding off and replacing details with scratch built parts if i can and adding all the wires, though not sure how much is seen on the db601 engine of the 109e - so with that in mind, what sort of diameter of wire would i be needing for 1/48th scale do you think? or is that something i can only judge.

Will be getting my first proper airbrush set soon aswell, ive already got one but its a cheap and nasty Expo set, and the little compressor is just pathetic, set the psi and start spraying and it instantly drops 10psi, makes it a complete ball ache, plus i never really got the hand of mixing the paint and to spray 1 colour i used a whole pot of paint and that put me off due to the costs - Going to need to get this sorted as i cant finish the 1/48th Airfix Merlin HC.3 as i dont want to ruin it with brush painting the outside, plus ive got 12 Tamiya 1/24 cars to finish all they need is the body painting which i refuse to do with a brush.

Thanks! The "chrome" panels on the door were actually done using super market value aluminium foil, glued down using Microscale Micro Metal Foil Adhesive - apparantly you can use watered down PVA glue, but I've not had any success with that. Once set, I brushed over a coat of Pledge Multi-Surface Wax (acrylic floor polish) to seal the foil down and give it a bit of protection from handling. :)

Well this thread has tipped me over the edge, i've just ordered from Hannants an Airfix A-4 Skyhawk with some extra bits (resin seat and Eduard photoetch).

I generally make and paint warhammer and wargame stuff, although i do have a tamiya skyraider which i've built and painted the cockpit for but haven't dared go any further, so i figure this cheap kit will let me practice and not worry to much if i mess it up.

Now just have to find time to build it and paint it :) in between planning a wedding and working away from home.

Impressive skills you have there Pieman.. love the effects you get and the level of detail.. Curious do you display them in a cabinet, or from the ceiling old school style :)

Outstanding work there Pieman, you're doing this with an airbrush I assume? The level of detail is incredible.

Been years since I've seen anyone doing Airfix sets, remember doing them with my old man when I was 5 or 6. Moved onto warhammer 40k but not done any model making in a long time now.
