Airfix

I use Mr Cement S, you just hold the two parts together and paint it along the seam or dab it in the joint, the excess glue just evaporates and the seam is joined.

As for washes I make my own using black/brown pastels.

So I placed my order and all should arrive tomorrow :D I cant wait!!!! Although, I cannot assemble until I find an airbrush kit :( Im very new to modelling ( I did lots when I was a teen but that was well over 10 years ago and with a rough brush!. So any reccomedations on a decent starter airbrush kit would be very much appreciated. Excited to set up a man cave and have a bit of peace and quiet :D

That's what I bought.

Thanks pieman and too tall, following on from your information, ive mixed revell 43 with a bit of blue grey from revell, thats given it a nice blueish hue when viewed from different angles but still looks grey enough to me

And ontop of that, visited a little shop near me which i had no idea was even there, and picked up a 2nd BF109-E3 profipack by Eduard, some maskol as ive never tried it, rivet tool, razor saw, micro set and sol and lastly they stock tamiya extra thin cement, now got 3 bottles, should last me quite a while - also they stock xtracrylix and its reasonably priced being a few pence cheaper without the need for delivery, so may consider trying to switch over to them in the near future.

Cosmic, that compressor is the same I think but I don't know about the airbrushes.

The ones I use are Veda 130E's, they are about £16 a pop. I'm sticking with it till it breaks then going to buy something a bit more long term. So far they have been cracking though.

Really appreciate you helping me mate :)

I like the look of the veda airbrushes best, look to be better build quality. Do you think the VEDA AC-18B complete kit as I linked above would be ok? There doesn't seem to be a tank with this though? as you can tell I'm not up to scratch with how these things work...

I would advise not buying a compressor without a tank. The airflow can surge and pulse, with the tank its steady and you have more control.

Okay, well for the time being I shall look in to it a little more. I can also research the plane a little more and fine tune any pieces before jumping in to anything. Thanks again for you helping me :)

I notice you've mentioned "Xtracrylics", be VERY wary of this paint as it can be a bugger use with constant clogging of the nozzle. It needs dedicated thinners, though loadsa ppl use tamiya X-20 thinners, but you'll also have to use a retarder or flow improver that slows down the paint drying process allowing a constant flow of paint which in turn eases the clogging prob, but it does clog, just as much.
As "TooTall" says, try and buy a compressor with a tank and it stops any pulsing of the airflow if you've got a piston type compressor, it doesn't happen with a vane type comp as the air is pressurized and delivered differently. You will find that the hose itself will act as a sort of tank and will ease the pulsing but you won't get rid of it completely.

Have a gander over at the Bay of E, I reckon you'll get a fair set up for about £60-£65 which includes, the compressor (with tank) and one or two airbrushes.
Now, these airbrushes are the ones that are normally sold on the Bay withe these compressors, they're made in china by a company called "AB" in factories all over the place which means standards tend to differ a lot. You could get a goodun or a snotter, its all depneds on luck. Saying that, at least it'll put paint on plastic without brush marks, it all depends how well and how easily it does it. The thing you want to look out for is you need a "double action" airbrush rather than a single action. You push the button down to allow air through, then pull the button back to allow the paint through at the same time, the further you pull the button back, the more paint flows through, the wider the spray paint area, simples. Also try and get a nozzle of 0.02-0.03mm as this size appears to give a nice compromise between fineness of the color demarkation between any two colors and eae of use (any smaller and you'll get paint flow probs possibly.
Lastly, get yourself setup at Flory models and watch some of Phil's videos about airbrushing, they're totally invaluable.
Hope this helps.:)

I use wood, plastic, resin and metal (pewter).

Superglue is the adhesive of choice due to the ability to clean-break the bonded surfaces together. Polystyrene cement melts the plastic together, making for removing the parts (in rare occasions when you may need to) to be very damaging and messy.

For metal, you can use modelling putty that hardens through kneading it with an activation compound - usually combined with pinning the inner surfaces of the pieces together too.

Hi, I used to love building model aircraft when I was younger. Having seen some of the pictures I wouldn't mind having a crack at them again, I would say I'm more or less a total noob again so I was wondering what would be a good kit to get started again?

I've two sets that I would like to try and build up so can you please recommend me what you think would be best for starting again.
1. Battle of Britain: Hurricane Mk.I, Spitfire Mk.I, Bf109 etc
2. Cold war US Carrier Aircraft: A4 skyhawk, A6 intruder, F4 Phantom etc

I will also need to get some paints, brushes and glue again so what is good?
