There are definitely far more apple fanboys than there are apple haters.. I think thats quite clear tbh, if not for it Apple wouldnt be the size of company that it is

That's just not correct though is it. All big companies being the size they are doesn't mean they have legions of fanboys... It means they make a product(s) that is popular and are good at marketing. Ignoring the general pro-Apple places in the world, I see more stigma to being an 'Apple User' than I do for any other brand. Not that it bothers me. Samsung don't have the same problem, nor do Google really. The only company I would say that has a similar problem is Microsoft.

Maybe on tech forums and in a professional setting you see a lot of apple "haters" , but if you go on social media and the real world (particular younger people) then they definitely are way more apple fanboys. Ive seen some kids get bullied at school and such just for not owning an iphone lol. Same with airpods etc.

I do agree with you in the sense that not all brands have this problem, I think naturally if a company has extreme fanboys, there will also be people who go against that.

Absolutely - kids in schools having an iPhone is elitist - ask them why they like them and they will struggle to tell you. There are very few android fanboys from what I have seen, most kids with android phones have the cheap variants.

For those of you interested in hearing about these headphones and not here to flame or defend Apple to the death, I should receive a pair in a couple of days.

I plan to use them in place of AirPods (work VCs, FaceTime, etc) and also a pair of Bose QC35s (use for general music at work, commuting and travelling). I don’t use QC35s for calls because the 2way audio quality is not so great.

Also, FWIW I didn’t pay full price for them

Extra points if you post a review with a pic of you carrying them like a handbag :p

Probably because apple don't do anything particularly badly - the problem with apple is the way they treat their customers. They will only get away with it for so long and then it will bite them on the rear.

How they treat their customers? I’d say customer service is one thing that Apple excel at-especially when it comes to going in store to fix any issues you might have with a device.

The fact that the headphones are already backdated until March tells you that these are going to do very well, regardless of the naysayers.

Are they overpriced? Probably, but I’m 100% ok knowing I’d be paying extra for the convenience/integration. But more importantly, I know I’ll get the value out of them like everything else I’ve got in the ecosystem. Like I’ve got a 2014 MacBook Air that is still going strong and the Max will be compatible with that as well. That’s just mad (in a good way) to me.

This whole fanboy thing needs to stop now-people are allowed to like what they like. If that’s Apple products then so be it.

How can you be so one dimensional? Looking after customers is not just fixing broken products.

You’re right the fanboyism needs to stop. Tell me something these will do that something half the price from Sony won’t?

Fixing broken products is just one element of their customer service, sure. But it’s one that I know from having spoken to people value-knowing that if something is wrong with their Apple product then at least they can go into a store and potentially get it fixed there and then.

I like their 14 day no questions asked return policy.

What do you find so bad about their customer service to counter?

Lol, I am sure that the Sony’s can do everything that the new headphones will be able to do. I haven’t disputed that anywhere.

All I’m suggesting is that people will be happy to pay the extra to have one more product in their Apple ecosystem that will work harmoniously with everything else they have. And there is nothing wrong in that whatsoever.

If the WF1000-XM3 are anything to go by, they'll probably be much better at holding a solid connection

Agreed. I've never had any bad experience with Apple's customer service if anything I've always been impressed with how fast they get things resolved.

I wouldn't ever touch a MacBook as I'm a Windows guy but the Apple devices I do have are all fantastic. The phone, watch, pad, TV and AirPods all work so well together that it almost always tempts me to keep investing into the system.

From the reviews I have seen the TLDR is that they are brilliant but overpriced. If you want the best integration with the apple ecosystem and don't mind the cost you will be very happy.

If you don't want to spend £550, the Sony XM4 will give you 95% of the sound/noise cancellation with a little less convenience on the integration front for ~£300. AKA, probably the better choice for most people.

My pair arrived this afternoon and I'll try them out for the rest of the work day. I also wore my QC35s for a journey into central London today so have a good recent reference point to compare.

Out of interest, what are your go-to headphone tester tracks?

Reddit impressions from someone who owns some decent cans

Cliffs: compares favourably to decent mid-tier wired headphones

That should also give people some idea of what people are willing to spend on headphones. The ones he says beat the AirPods Max comfortably on sound quality are £750 on their own and he is pairing them with a (resonably budget) headphone amp and DAC only costing ~£250 between them. Plenty of people spend far more than that on a DAC alone.

Yeah, there is no such thing as the best sound. Go on an audiophile forum and its a horror show.

You will ask "I have X amp, what are the best speakers for under £1000" and you will get one response saying "get Y, they are amazing value and sound utterly fantastic with that particular amp" and the next post will say "Don't buy Y, I can get better speakers for £50 than those".

It all depends on what music you listen to and what sort of sound you like. I mean, Beats headphones sold tonnes and they sound crap!

The funny thing is that if these were £350 I would probably get a pair. I want to get some noise cancelling headphones and I have a lot of apple products. I could handle paying a bit extra over the XM4 for the apple ecosystem and aesthetics but another £250? No. I think a lot of people will be the same.

They don’t look after their customers when they get rid of useful features like the headphone jack. No chargers bundled and previously no rapid charger you less you pay more. Locking products down so you lose key features if you use them with other brands. Then the port supposedly going.. they make decisions that negatively impact the user so they can boost sales of products like this then somehow manage to fool fanboys in to think it’s because they are courageous, it is embarrassing.

The only thing that is harmonious with the apple products is during setup which happens all of once - during use there is zero discernible difference. Dropping connections? I have never had an issue when enjoying mine. Sony are widely regarded as

Apple customer service being amazing is very hit and miss. You will see plenty of people being left high and dry. Take a look at Louis Rossman’s videos if you want to know more about how apple shaft their customers.

The only reason you might think these are good for the apple ecosystem is because they removed the headphone jack so you needed wireless headphones. Wired headphones worked amazingly well so they have just created a problem to solve like they usually do.

To the reviews saying these are better than the Sony’s- try them yourself first. I would be truly amazed if they are better. I have the Sony iem and airpod pros and the difference is stark.

I have had plenty of iPhones and currently own an iPhone, I’ve had multiple apple watches, airpod pros, a MacBook Pro (now trash) and multiple Apple TV’s so I am more than happy to give credit to apple products when it is due - on this occasion these are nothing more than a fashion statement as well as a statement of wealth.

At the moment the only stand out products for me are the iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV and possibly the airpod pros for their compactness. As soon as the port goes though I’ll be getting rid.
