I'm thinking of getting into airsoft and I'd like to know the sort of things I'd be looking at apart from a gun and I'd like some recommendations on some decent AEG's.

I'm thinking of an M4\16 of some sort and would just like some recommendations.

and of course feel free to post any you own :)

before you start thinking about buying a gun i suggest you got to a skirmish and rent a gun to see if you like airsoft, and if you can, rent the guns your looking into buying.

if you do get into it yourll proberly need a spare battery (or two spares if they are mini type), 2 high cap mags (or several mid/low cap if your like me and dislike high caps), some camo clothing, a good pair of boots and some eye protection (balistic glasses by guarder are good if you want to skirmish in open areas, in CQB a full face mask would be better.

you dont realy need to start getting into gear like webbing/assault vests and such untill you realy start getting into airsoft and want to spend a bit of money to gear up and realy get into the sport.

well if your interested in it then i highly recomend checking out http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/news2/

they have a great forum with TONS of airsoft information, and a fair sized review database with most guns (except from the rarer/exotic guns) reviewed, as well as links (and reviews) to several uk airsoft stores.

HFC pistols are cheaper (under £100), and run green gas from stock (so good power) and the majority of them are full metal (apart from their dark hawks and such, which shouldnt be full metal anyway as similar guns in real life only have a polymer lower body too).

I have a HFC m190 myself as one of my sidearms, shoots great on green but can be a little hot from some airsoft sites, so you may need to buy lower power gas too incase the gun chronos too hot. Being a sub 100 pounds gun, itll lack the superb craftsman ship and design of a western arms, and will lack real trademarks, but itll get the job done, shoots well and feels nice and heavy being full metal.

Edit: BTW, if you plan on skirmishing, its not very nice to want to do 'damage'. 1 shot is all it takes, the point is to hit them so they are out, not hit them to do damage to them.

My small collection, I have since had my g3 camo painted and have a s&w sigma sw40f as well

£100 ned... how is the airgun shooting going.. and those predator pellets?

Still plinking away, but unfortunately haven't been able to do any hunting which is a shame since I want to try these predators out, plus I developed a taste for rabbit in Prague last weekend :D.

Wow, just been checking these out, really fancy a co2 powered one. Whats the best gun for a beginner? ;)

all depends on what you want.

CO2 is generaly more expensive because the 12g co2 cylinders are more expensive then propane or other gasses used, and you cant 'top up' CO2 (im not talking about the proper CO2 rigs, im talking about the entry level CO2 pistols btw).

If you want to use it for proper skirmishing then CO2 would be a bit too powerfull for the majority of UK sites (most limit all airsoft guns to 328 fps with .2g bbs, some allow higher power for bolt action rifles though). If you just want to shoot targets and such then CO2 will be fine.

If you do want to get into airsofting, i suggest you go to a skirmish site and rent out a gun before buying one, but if its just for target shooting and such, then a cheap pistol, like one of the HFC ones i recomended earlier in this thread will do you good.

The HFC m190 will be a good starting choice, gives you a nice pistol that good for short-medium ranges, and the newer HFC m190 models have a full auto setting (uses more gas then normal, and is less accurate due to gas not getting time to stabilize after each shot, but its great fun none the less).

if you want to get into skirmishing though, it would proberly be better looking into buying an AEG after trying a few out at a site instead of buying a pistol though.

a m190 will only mess up if you try to use a co2 adapter to put co2 in a normal gas mag, in which case itll blow the seals, or if you use a co2 mag in the non co2 model in which case it could damage parts of the gun.

urls to arnies airsoft review page of the 3 models of m190 that HFC sell, if you read them yourll see its a great gun. look at what some people say in the reviews:

conclusion:
sell your house and buy 10 truck loads of them

Next to the KWA G19, this is imo one of the most reliable skimishable gun, which wont break easily and is a great looking gun, as long as ** not bothered about accurate trades.

How can it be better? Sorted lower rail, thats about it.

For the price it is, you wont get a better gun, simple as that.

lugers arnt a highly sort after gun, so not a great deal of companys make them, less ppl buy them, and so i have no idea about the quality/consistency of lugers.

the 1911s on the other hand, tons of people make them, with western arms even making a couple 1911s with fully legal and trademarks. But for all that you do pay a fair ammount extra.

For a 1911 thats cheap and full metal you can get a WE one, but im not sure of any UK company that sells them, so if your desperate for a cheap 1911 thats metal yourll have to import one from WGC shop (amazing airsoft shop in hong kong, its the main source of airsoft stuff, most retailers buy from WGC to sell on).

If you just want the 1911 lock, and are willing to compromise a bit, you could go for a para ordinance like the one at the bottom of this page, or a Hi-Capa like one of the ones here.

The hi-capa (aka a 2011) is similar to a 1911 but wider (double stack mag instead of single stack), and is a bit different in style, but its closer to a 1911 then a hfc m190, and its cheaper (under £100) but unfortunatly isnt full metal.

the para ordinance on the other hand is a little more expensive at £104, but its full metal, and proberly slightly closer to a 1911 then the hi-capa.

that para one is quite nice... the thing is I'm used to paying 6 pounds for a bb gun so I'm going to make sure this one "is the one" before I spend that amount of money on a gun
