Airsoft ??

Long thread - awesome though :)

Some questions!!!

If I wanted to get hold of a noob entry level M4 - could someone suggest one? There seem to be so many different ones, but obviously I don't want one that will just break on my first outing.

Also, what do I need in terms of paperwork / license etc to own said air rifle?

Any info appreciated good people of ocuk

Get a grip, GAY!

If you don't like it, don't post about it :)

Anyway...how much do you think its costs to get kitted out with full gear - like army clothing, tactical gear, weapons (primary and secondary), BBs, and then things like backpacks and even GAS and then the chest gear for holding smokes and ammo?

I think ill spec some stuff up for a beginner kit as i've never done this :)

Also what website would you recommend for gear? (if allowed to post of course)

I dread to think what I've spent on this so far, must be between £700 -£900! :o

And thats only for a rifle, goggles, mask, boots, belt and mag pouch... You certainly can do it cheaper than I have. Something like this would get you started, but you really should attend some skirmishes, talk to the regulars about their gear and get an idea of what you want before you invest your $$$.

Also, it depends on whether you prefer CQB or full on woodland style warfare.

A pic of the type of gun i'm waiting to ge sometime this week.

Also worth noting is that you wont be able to take your gun home with you until you have completed a set amount of skirmishs at a given site, gotten your site membership and then your ukaara membership.

It will save you a few quid on walk-on site fee's if buying your gun when you start out but it might be worth sticking with a site-hire gun until you have your membership before buying a gun.

I'm thinking of getting into painting my gun/s though might buy a cheap broken aeg or something and have a go, some of the paintjobs i've seen are impressive.

I'd like any, whats CQB, is that like built up areas and buildings? I think i'd prefer that but i'd love to play either tbh :)

Close quarter battle, primarily played indoor. I prefer it as it's much faster paced, shorter distances and running around in the dark is fun! Plus tracers are great in this environment and adds another dimension. Best to try it all though really!

I play/Marshall paintball games (woodland) and outdoor laser (again woodland). Paintball is great fun and much more of adrenaline rushing than airsoft. In paintball you REALLY don't want to get hit because it normally bloody hurts lol. Airsoft, sure it does but that sting is nothing compared to a paintball. We have markers that reasonable MP5's, full sniper rifles (new and completely custom), there are even paintballs that are shaped you can fire 500 metres (insane!).

I have airsoft gun's but never played it, although I would love to. I can see how much fun it would be and frankly, i love the gun's realism, although have a magazine that holds 400 rounds is hardly realistic, it just means spamming shots unfortunatley (IMO).

I like the laser we play.. machine guns, assault rifles, small uzi style guns, and a sniper rifles (with guiella suits (spl?)). A totally different way to play AND no masks!! Definately not the adrenaline rush though, so it's the scenerio that really makes/breaks it. I guess in that way it's similar to airsoft?

Lastly.. people saying these things are ghey? Odd. Why isn't your hobby seen as ghey? If you like cooking.. clearly better suited to a woman!? If you like football, I guess you like spending time with dudes, watching dudes? lol. Seriously.. thing about what you say first :-)

The manufacturer is far far more important than the model of weapon. For the most part, airsoft weapons are the same, with different shells. Different platforms have different gearbox versions (M4 is V2, AK is V3 for example) and some mechanical systems vary (electric blowback, gas blowback - both types of simulated recoil) and different designed hops but it will be the manufacturer which dictates the quality and reliability of the product.

There are a lot of manufacturers to choose from, in various price bands and it can be a complete minefield to get a good one. For playing, anything under £100 for a gun is not going to be skirmishable, but above that you can get almost anything that will serve you ok for a day.

My suggested manufactures (at this moment in time) would be G&G, Classic Army, KWA (i would probably rate these the highest for a £200-£300 one). G&P make nice looking ones, and have the most extensive range of M4s, but in my personal experience (which differs a lot to some others) they suffer a lot from weak internals, i've seen 7 pistons strip in the same M16 so far this year.

You will probably notice that you can get products from outside the UK (like the US, and particularly HK) whilst it's nice to save money, also consider the import duties, inspections by customs, courier handling fees etc. It often does not work out any cheaper.

*edit to add some useful info*

I would reccomend:

http://www.fire-support.co.uk/
http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/
http://www.xsiteairsoft.co.uk/

I've personaly purchased weapons off of these and have not had a bad service. I would say however that no matter how good it looks on paper, go somewhere to get a feel for one before you buy it, you may find it's not for you. A lot of sites rent stuff for the first few games so you can get an idea of things.

As well as the gun there are other important factors to consider, eye protection, gloves, boots. These are the the most important things, tac gear etc. is nice, but by no means necessary.

You will also require a defence to the VCRA in order to purchase RIFs from anywhere .I think this was covered earlier in the thread, but for a summation, Airsoft weapons are actually illegal as per the Violent Crime Reduction Act. Airsofters fought long and hard in order to get an exemption to it, in where you can prove you are a regular skirmisher, you may purchase RIFs for the purpose of Airsoft. This is the only thing that entitles you to buy them. Shotgun licenses, Air rifle licenses, even Section 5 does not entitle you to purchase Airsoft weapons. In order to prove you are a regular skirmisher you need to be a member of a fully insured, recognised site. This allows retailers to contact the site, confirm your details and your defense. Following on from that there is also UKARA (UK Airsoft Retailers Association). This is a nationwide database created and maintained by a series of retailers that allows quick update and access of members. Basically it speeds up the process of buying one, it is also extremely useful when ordering abroad and dealing with customs.

Hope that helps, all the info and a ton more is available on airsoft forums like airsofters and zeroin

Cheers

I've taken current serving peeps and they thought it was a bit crap. Too many kids, the cheating didn't help and they got proper ribbed by their mates. It doesn't prove much either way. Some like it, some don't.

There are people who play it for the sport, and those who want to walt it up. Some of the stories i've heard players come out with....

To knock it without trying is a bit silly though, regardless of what it is.

Depends on the site, my local and also weekend place of work is apparently pretty good when it comes to cheaters :)

Just back from a milsim weekender with www.tier1militarysimulation.com.

Intense, in one word.

Well if you play milsim your normally only allowed mid caps or low caps, 100 rounds per mag or 30 rounds per mag.

I mainly play using midcaps whatever the event.
