Airsoft ??

somehow i doubt this, unless it was a stupidly overpowered airsoft gun.

With your standard BBs and a ~300fps gun unlikely - but perfectly possible with a hopped up gun and heavier/coated BBs.

I know someone with an L85 or L86 that was chrono'd near 1000fps - stick something like coated BBs in that and it would be lethal.

i'm not talking about making it bleed or anything, just a thump to tell them to bugger off. a bit of a slap per say.

i'm not talking about shooting a wing off then leaving it to bleed out for 3 days.

So basically a super powerful water gun :p

i did look at water guns but will one fire at 20m distance with enough force to scare them?

they all seem to be pretty crap due to health and safety since made for 5 year olds.

And if you end up shooting its eye out but not killing it?

I'm a pretty good shot. Used to have a air pistol and have multiple real guns in another country where last time I visited I stayed for 6 months and spent most of that time shooting. There were 3 of us and 1 couldn't aim for toffee so me and the other had a good rivalry going on with more and more audacious shots from further away.

20m is nothing and I'll be aiming for body shots. I would calibrate it first on a cardboard target.

airsoft guns aren't the most accurate things, especially if you're talking about going for a cheaper option.

are you sure there isn't some other more humane method you could try? loud noises etc

can anyone answer the question? most accurate 2 tone brightly coloured airsoft weapon for under £100?

it will be used solely to shoot apples in my back garden from 20m away.

Some form of air rifle. Will be miles more accurate than and BB gun.

But if you had to go airsoft, a G&G Combat machine, or A&K SVD, depending on whether ROF or power was more important to you.

Why are we advising someone on the best way to misuse airsoft weapons when any sort of bad press will probably result in us losing our ability to own airsoft weapons in the current anti-gun culture climate

As part of an ongoing effort to get fitter (lost about 12kg from 112kg) I'm looking to making it a part of my regular fitness regime. Who needs CrossFit when you can be running around in the woods, doing burpees when you're constantly jumping up and down to move between cover - all while someone is trying to shoot you! :D

Similar plan to me... I need to lose some weight and I can't stand going to gyms, walking/running/cycling in big circles without going anywhere.

I used to play a lot of paintball... this time I'm going to give airsoft a proper go.

The replica weapons rules are damn annoying though... going back into paintball and I'd go straight for whatever the latest version of the Eclipse Ego is as I loved that marker.

But if I want to get some decent gear before I go... I can't... I have to play at least 3 games over however many months with crap rental gear.

I'd be happy to jump straight in with some Umbrella Armoury gear :(

Depending on your site, they could fast track you if you ask nicely and you been a few times. You could also ask them if they willing to buy your gun for you for you to use, but it's kept at the site till you meet the requirements for UKARA.

That's a good tip, thanks - I'll have a chat with local sites.

Posted these in the purchase topic a while ago, but not here.

Newest purchase is the Zoxna Mini BB Launcher! 40BB's powered by good old green gas. Only problem is... the gas valve is too close to to the body, so I gotta keep removing it, until I play lego with some more rail mounts to further extend it away from the body. lol

Multicam helmet cover, sadly doesn't fit my helmet correctly even through it should do... Maybe I was unlucky that the cover was smaller then it should be or the helmet is just bigger then it should be, who knows!

Have to get a new helmet one day anyway.

Got some custom patches made few weeks ago for £12, they pretty cool! :p

Greetings all. I'm thinking of getting into airsoft (I was/am also a tournament paintballer, but not getting into THAT discussion! To my mind, both are perfectly legitimate, if completely different ways to have fun)

I bought a stack of airsoft guns before the RIF laws came into effect, so legal ownership. No two-tones (not that it would bother me), all full-metal:
A couple of GBB pistols
JAC MP5 (awesome fun)
Army Armament L85A1 AEG
an M4 RIS AEG (can't remember the make)
L96 (MB-01) springer
HFC Gas VSR-11
Stacks of mags, scopes, slings, tactical kit etc blah blah...

So should have enough to get started, but I've never actually played- I really bought them because I like the replica aspect. Seems a bit of a shame!

So to the point of the post, a few questions if you don't mind:
1) Where in, or near Surrey can one play? Are there sites with a mix of urban and outdoor?

2) Would you recommend I do a kit-rental "punter" day to get the feel of how it all works, or just barge in with my own gear and work it out?

3) Is there a walk-on system like in paintball where you can turn up with your own gear?

4) I'll admit I'm not a fan of AEGs. Given I've got loads of HPA kit, tanks, LPAs and a fill rig I'd love to convert the L85 to gas with a conversion kit and keep the M4 as an AEG backup. Not keen on using the JAC MP5 as it's a bit of history and fairly irreplaceable. Are the gas conversions allowed on UK sites? Any recommendations from someone who's done the research already?

5) Does the honour system really work? I mean really, truly, honestly? Is it a constant source of frustration or just an occasional thing?

6) Probably most importantly, what's the demographic? I'm not interested in milsim, well at least not as far as pretending to be in real combat. Mag capacity limits etc sound like fun, but wearing the correct version and camo of a kevlar helmet doesn't. For me if it's guys and gals having fun competing with each other within the constraints of the sport and it's equipment, I'm in. I've watched a lot of youtube vids like Silo Entertainment and it looks like fantastic fun- in those vids usually when someone eliminates you it's bro-fists and giggles. Excellent, I want that: even high-level domestic tournament paintball was like that- most paintballers in the UK scene are there for the fun and the shared experience, not just the leaderboard. Play hard, laugh harder was the key. On the other hand if Airsoft is all a bit serious, "teenagery" and gung ho, I'm not sure....

Cheers guys!

1. I recommend googling Surrey Airsot and see what turns up, but I know of one site, it's in Reading and set in a old shopping center, called "The Mall" it's meant to be pretty awesome.

2. If your own kit works, use that. Test it first. Make sure whatever site you visit, the weapons are within their FPS rules, if you can't test them yourself, you likely can find out their FPS by googling up the weapons or get them tested at the site.

3. 99% sites are walk-on, that said, like anything these days, if you become a member of the site, you normally get a discount for playing.

4. See whatever site rules you visit on if they allowed or not, but normally they are allowed, that said, if you use propane gas, everyone will hate you because that crap smells, no hiding from it, everyone can smell it.

5. Yes most of the time, people will play fair, but there are cheaters in all games. If you suspect someone cheating, shoot them more or tell the referee, but be mindful, due to equipment, adrenaline and the chaos of war, someone might not feel their "hits". It happens. But don't worry about it, most people play fair.

6. Most sites just play normal games but rules can be different everywhere. I don't think there is a 100% dedicated milsim site, since them games an take time to prepare.

Normal games are standard games you see in FPS games, deathmatch, search and destroy, CTF, hostage rescue, attack and defend and anything else with simple rules. You be told what the game is before you start and things will be explained.

My local site plays games like the above, sometimes they do something extra or change things up, nothing milsim, don't know what it's like at other sites, but most normal games, it's all fun and giggles and good sportsmenship mixed in with some serious play.

Had my first game yesterday.
Had a good laugh, got handed which was expected, over the whole day it was something like 3 kills to 9 deaths.
It was an all day event, but long winded and did get confusing at some points.

Joggers are definitely a no go, I ended up going for a swim in what I thought was a small stream, fell in up to my waist.
So yeah emmerson g3 green multicam on order, should last a fair while longer.

Any suggestions on goggles or webbing. My bolle trackers kept steaming up or filled up with water, as for webbing I'm thinking the usual army plce in dpm.
Guns wise I'm lost, such variety. I had a combat machine m4, it felt too long yet tried a similar gun from another brand and it felt lovely, clearly I need to find me a decent shop and try some.

Stuff like the MP5, P90, G36C, etc. are good options if you prefer a gun that isn't long - friend of mine had a nice M4 and I didn't find that an issue personally though. Stuff like the FAMAS I didn't get on with as it seemed to have poorly positioned buttons, etc. so you'd easily accidentally press them.

good to hear, although if my track record is anything to go by don't expect that k/d ratio to improve much for a while :D

tbh googles steaming up is just a fact of life, you could try mesh but that just trades not steaming up for being slightly worse all of the time.

gun wise it's whatever you want, rroff is bang on that the likes of the p90/mp5 are a good shout. something like an arp9 is handy, shoots well enough and with a drum mag can make a decent stand in for a support gun. my advice is go to a local shop and handle a few, see what takes your fancy- you could be surprised.

as for webbing i just throw together whatever works from amazon's bargain basement. going for a molle based system will let you change stuff around as you need (in my case on a bi-weekly basis as a keep messing with it to find the perfect setup). personally i find a battle belt setup to be the most comfortable, if you're going to be using hi-caps then tbh just a decent webbing belt, a dump pouch and a couple of mag pouches are all you need to get started until you figure out how you want to run it.

Well funny thing is I'm now leaning towards a gbb rifle.
Someone had an ar9 gbb with a hollowed out compensator. Thing was popping with every fire, sounded like a right animal, whilst all electric guns sounded the same.

There is a shop a fair few miles away, as it gets closer i'll make a run so see just what sort of gun I'll fancy.
Hopefully TM will have a decent variant of what I fancy.
Asg shadow looks like a nice pistol, and from what I've seen pretty accurate and economical on the gas, so that's one I'm keeping an eye on.

Oh I don't doubt I'll struggle for a while, I'll use the practice whilst I save up for some mean gear, I could get it now but I'd rather take my time and savour buying something I'd really like.

Oh I badly need decent optics, Can't abide using iron sights, ended up just watching where the bb's went.

personally i'd reccommend staying away from gbb as your first primary, they're great guns don't get me wrong but you can't beat the reliability of the aeg. grab yourself a pistol if you want to get familiar with how gbb's work and give you a better idea wether or not you want to use one as a main. something like a glock and you can chuck it in a carbine kit to make a poor man's mp7. if you want something that pops try a firehawk, personally i'm not a fan but you always know if there's someone on site with one.

as for optics, i totally agree with you there, only gun i don't have some kind of red dot on is the mg42, and i'll give you 3 guesses why i don't need one on that bad boy. personally i'm a fan of the simple red dot with a flip to side magnifier because rarely do i need zoom (it's mostly for if i'm not sure if it's a well hidden person or my imagination), as with aeg's there's multitudes of designs out there. a cheap one will do the job, although expect it to crack first bb hit it gets so you can either splash for something tough, get a protector lense, or like me just risk it.
