Airsoft ??

what are the range of these damn rifles?? are they actually rifled ?? what's the muzzle velocity?

do they all fire the same generic BBs ?? i remember getting light weight cheap ones and a much denser but expensive heavier one.

whats the magazine capacity ?? 200 or so ?? for say a M4 or FAMAS box mag?

Uhhh... that varies. With a proper hop setup they can go a damned long way. No, they're not rifled, there's no point when all its firing is a spherical bit of plastic. Most sites ise .2g 6mm bb's, and unless you want serious issues, you use high quality, polished ones. The lower quality ones are prone to disintegrating in the barrel, which is very bad.
EDIT: Some people use .25 or even .3g bb's which hurt like hell.
As for muzzle velocity, my guns vary from 160 to 340 feet per second. I've seen sniper rifles putting out 500fps using .3g bb's.

My M14 midcap is 220 rounds, you can get boxmags with much more. A chap at the site I use has a 5000 round, auto wind hicap mag in his m4. Lo-cap mags tend to be the same capacity as the real magazines, my m40 holds 46 rounds per magazine.

ok last question they are gas operated or electric ?? last time i looked 10 years ago they had a 7.2v battery in them ( radio controlled car one)

Yes.
AEG (auto electric guns) such as the m14, m4, mp5 etc etc are battery powered. My m14 uses a 2800mAH battery.
My berettas/glocks all use gas, 134a or abbey ultra gas.
My shotguns and a lot of sniper rifles are spring powered.
Edit: I've also got an m93R AEP (auto electric Pistol) thats battery powered.

Just to reiterate please please don't just go and play in some derelict/abandoned place heh.

Besides its far more fun on an authorised site which usually run themed skirmishes, etc. and its a really cheap day out and most of the people I've run into have been really friendly and welcoming of new players - aslong as you abide by the basic ruleset.

  2. no, it's not "the best". the "best" airsoft sniper rifle would probably be a TM VSR with about £600 worth of mods to enhance power to a consistent level, enhance accuracy etc...

Just to add to what virtual adept said.

Range varies a lot and is fairly dependant on ammunition too. 0.20g bbs will be affected by air resistance and wind more severely and this is decreased by heavier bbs.

I'm currently using 0.25s @290ish fps in my G36k. Effective range is around 35-40meters, heavy winds will erode that heavily once more. A friend once had his bolt action rifle zero'd to 70meters, it was a monster but as said it was pushing 400fps on a 0.38g bb (which equated to 500fps with a 0.20g).

Magazine sizes vary from real caps, low caps, mid caps and high caps then box mag/c-mag style. 20/30, 70ish, 130ish, 350-500ish to 2000+ capacities respectivly. But when people say the ammo is cheaper, should be wary not to purchase the cheapest ammo, try to find a reputable manufacturer of bb and they won't explode, shatter or just jam regularly. As with anything you get what you pay for... Damn i can ramble.

Lastly i'm using 30round real caps as i'm a machocist who enjoys reloading at the most inopertune moments.

There's something to be said for the realisation you need to find hard cover there and then. Though, watching other people when their guns start going pop pop is just plain hilarious.
 
tbh cheapy tm spetsnaz AK and 5-10 minutes adjusting hop with some reasonable quality bbs will be as good as makes no difference compared to £600+ guns for most sites - similiarly with the FAMAS tho I find the fire selector on them is in a silly position and easy to engage by accident.

On subject of g36 friend of mine has a g36c that makes a great noise when firing really deep crunch almost sounds like the real thing heh.

i beg to differ... my fully custom G36k will launch a BB in a perfectly straight line out for 45 meters.

at 1200 rounds a minute, with a trigger delay of zero :D (ultra high-tourque motor and high speed gears = I WIN!)

obviously, i only use it in Semi, to conserve Ammo.
 
Anyone here happen to go to the C.A.G.E. Dover site? From what I can tell that is the closest site to me (which is still an hours drive away :(), been ages since I've had a good chance to use my Tanaka AICS and in this sort of weather it should run within FPS limits, even on propane.
 
Are you going by the sites shown on that map of sites mate? If so, it might be worth digging around and asking on forums about other venues, since that map doesn't show three of the sites I've been to.

Well I did check around arniesairsoft forums back when I last used to play airsoft, and when my local site shut down I had a look and people mentioned about the CAGE dover site and nothing else was mentioned. Keep in mind though this was before the VCR bill stuff came into effect so was a long time ago, not sure if any sites have started up since then.
 
i like airsoft its a laugh. its a bunch of big daft kids playing toy soldiers theres no point taking it seriously accept it for what it is :)

mine didnt come with a bipod iv got a red dot sight iv made myself a 12v battery and it was tested at just over 1200 rounds/min 20 rounds per second on a stock gearbox lol :)

its a proper gun over 1 metre long and well made too
iv played with a cpl of cheats and its extremely funny hosing them in the face with that rate of fire and watching them just wither under it as it cuts them haha they start taking their hits after lol

iv just bought metal bushings a very hig speed motor high speed gear set grease and a bipod for it i cant wait to see what rof i can get it upto as it is it empties a 500 round mag in 25 seconds lol

I love these threads :P there is always someone who can shoot 2 miles and take out an ants eye lol

It "may" be able to fire at that range but the target area will be size of a barn door . Non rifled ..low power ..plastic balls .. you do the maths but its not happening .

A decent ft air rifle (12ftlbs) would but at its limit at that range (lead pelets/rifled barrel etc ) so an airsoft with half the power certaintly aint with any kind of accuracy .

I not knocking airsoft .. Great fun ...realistic looking gear and great hobby but lets keep it realistic :)

Don't forget that airsoft uses hopup to increase accuracy instead of a rifled barrel. This puts backspin on the BB keeping the trajectory straighter for longer than if it had just been fired without any spin.

Im sure hopups may add a little distance and increase accuracy but its not gonna make it into summit thats accurate at 70 yards ... As i said im not putting it down just want people to be realistic . :)

Of course, hopup has its limits, it improves accuracy but nothing can stop that fact that its a light weight projectile that even a slight wind has a large effect on.

I know some people who have got some great range out of using a HPA rig, but personally I don't see the point because unlike the USA where that is fine, in this country you couldn't shoot at anyone with that sort of power.
