***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Oh I wouldn't sell them butchered if it came to that :p I'd still do the headband up properly to a standard I'd be happy with before they go anywhere!

£210 is the current drop price. I'm happy to pay that but obviously the bigger the saving the better. 5 days left until it ends, will the numbers catch up? Argh!

You guys have said the K712 Pros are a league above the Q701. I find the 701 post bass mod to be rather delightful, just how much better can the 712 be? I'm way too curious and foolish with spending :S

Commit to the purchase all the same, makes sense to. It's a better headphone, but as you get towards the top end of mid-fi and into hi-fi 'phones, the price increases exponentially for smaller/less noticeable improvements. They wont jump out at you as much better, but over time you will notice and appreciate them.

Try and demo some first, RicherSounds has just introduced a "premium" headphone range, Im sure (assuming you're based in London/Chelsea area) that you could easily have a demo.

Better mids, smoother sound more accurate layered soundstage with a more refined sound.

Excellent now just gotta wait a month!

In the meantime, those with the Q701s, check this track out:

The soundstage is made great use of with this song.

Done

If they don't impress me then I'll be pointing fingers at you lot!

Odds on that you won't miss customs (stuff over £100 in value rarely does) which when you add in the waiting time, you would be better off ordering from either the american book shop or uk/germany retailers, etc.

I looked at prices and it's pointless going for the massdrop it's not any cheaper than buying it normally, in fact the american book store is cheaper.

I would cancel and wait tbh. You have only had the Q701's for like 2 seconds.

fingers crossed that my Q701 turn up to day.

+1

I ordered lime green and they were shipped on the 11th of July at about 3am (our time), what was your shipping date?

I seriously do hope mine haven't been lost there is no tracking number or anything, did you guys have to sign for them?

Even if they were to refund me it would cost me an additional £100+ to buy them now from the UK. I hope it doesn't come to that and they have some spare.

same here i ordered the lime green, mine was shipped on the 10th but people that were shipped on the 8th got there Q701 end of last week, so assume we should get ours in next 2 days.

from what i heard from uk buyers they didn't sign, you could ask Massdrop for the assignment number i think its called to find out from your local depot if it is there.

Makes sense really and didn't know the German prices were as low as they are.

Cancelled, will wait!

I always google prices of everything as well as a quick scan of HUKD, etc.

Massdrop isn't that great for some things especially since we are in the UK and you need to add expensive shipping and customs onto some stuff.

I was looking at the silk cuff links but they weren't any cheaper than buying them here in the UK due to the shipping costs.

Just because it's on massdrop doesn't mean it's a steal. Sure some deals are like the Q701 but those are very rare special deals.

The headphone stand looks like a decent deal though for the wooden one, but I also googled them and you can order them yourself direct from china for slightly cheaper albeit massdrop discard 20% of theirs due to them being not up to scratch so they offer a slightly better chance of getting half decent ones for the couple of extra quid or you could just take the risk and order direct.

I don't want people thinking everything on massdrop is a bargain, one guy on here was looking at speakers, etc after I recommended the Q701's. The shipping on some speakers is as high as $75 alone, which obviously makes any savings pointless.

Can every one just confirm for me that ups delivered your parcels? Im having a nightmare even getting any one to recognise the shipping reference I have from mass drop.

nobody signed for them, so i'm guessing it's royal mail and i'm pretty sure that's what massdrop said on the discussion part of the drop.

your countries local postal service takes over at the border to reduce costs.

UPS or USPS only take it to the country, after that it's the national service that takes over.

did it have your postcode on massdrop? that will narrow it down to your row of houses. it depends really on how long that row is all you need is a house number and postcode really when posting something all the other info isn't really needed unless posting internationally.

for instance my post code only has 3 houses on it, therefore if something was posted to my post code with zero house number the driver could easily check all 3 houses to verify where the parcel was to go. some post codes i imagine have over 100 houses though.

As mentioned mine was via USPS but got delivered by a blank van as seems to be the usual case with my US orders. I guess they palm it off to some local private courier once it comes to this area and they handle it from there.

Yeah I figured this was the case having seen other Massdrop items. Don't think we will see a deal as good as the Q701 for a very long time :p Anyway, I'm in no major rush. I can wait a year now or longer for the K712 Pro now that I know those are probably what I want to upgrade to.
