***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Sorry China. Just watched your video and was abit firmer on them but still nothing. Agreed on the cable part i thought u were going to snap it off. Sure looks like your putting more pressure on them than you are.

Like I said, more force is needed to disconnect the cable. That's the noise I hear when wiggling that area around and it's visibly the glossy plastic rubbing against the surrounding glossy plastic having had an even closer look now!

Just gave my chinese made K702's (same as Q701 except for the badge and the headband) a vigorous workout and the only noise I get is a clunk when whatever I am twisting reaches the end of it's travel.

I get a minor (not even annoying) squeak from the headband slider but that's it.

Hey my headband looks OEM now that I've removed the green stitching and used black stitching!

I think im going to attempt something similar but abit more oem looking to what mrks done.

Anyway quick vid of mine. My connector is not that tight so dont need to wiggle too much.

Your connector is not the AKG connector though (that is tight!) - Also in your video I did hear the creaking though it's not as loud as mine in the video. I should have added that on my camera I increased the mic gain a couple of dB in order for the noise to be picked up clearer.

I still don't think mine is an isolated fit and finish situation though. Looking at it everything lines up perfectly and as it should. Just the glossy plastic making the noise.

Yea they feel pretty cheap, similar to the steelseries headphones that look similar. It's one reason I don't wanna sell my x1's cus every time I pick them up they feel so premium.

Lol not knocking yours just think I'm going to try use the original stitching.

The akgs are great but not as relaxing and I find them quite fatiguing. Really unsure if I have to sell a pair which my wife wants which one to let go. Both have qualities over the other.

Between the X1 and 701 what sound do you prefer?

For what? Suund quality? Build quality?

Let's forget about the latter and focus on the sound in which case I prefer the modded Q701. The mod puts the bass right where it should be, not too low, and just right.

I did feel during the first few days that maybe I might get fatigued by them but then realised that the headband was the cause of this and de-bumping them fixed that completely. I like the cups sitting bang in the middle of my ears and that meant not adding extra padding to compensate for the stock headband bumps as that simply increased the clamping pressure of the headband and meant the cups didn't sit in the middle without regular adjustment so for me the only solution was DIY my own headband and stick soft faux leather in the bumps place.

No intention of getting rid of the 701s any time soon because of the sound. It just goes really well with the NAD amp.

I have my Qs up for sale but I might just keep them as they are growing on me day by day.

Bass was a worry but after the mod and some burn in it really is very detailed and hits really low, you can actually feel the bass now as opposed to just hearing it with no mod. I would say the Qs bass is better than the X1 in regards quality and detail with less boom bleeding in to the mids.

They can be fatiguing with poor source material, but feed them quality and they shine.

Currently using realtek onboard as my aune went faulty so now on the look out for another. All this talk about them being hard to drive is not so true when I get good sound with onboard audio.

The people who find the Qs too fatiguing should try the 65th Annies but the ones with the smaller pads. They are by far my Fav AKG and although not quite as well rounded as the K712, offer a more thicker, smoother and polite flavour of the AKG sound.

And I didn't even like the sound the Annie pads gave on the Q701s!

Smoother yes but then that made the Q701 lose the character that makes it so good to my ears.
