Alan Carr's EasyWay To Stop Smoking

I gave away my last 7 Bensons

This is always "the sign". If you set a day and smoke up to that day instead of just stopping there and then, I believe that you wont actually do it. When I quit I had 9 smokes left in a pack of 10 and just threw them in the bin. Never looked back.

Well done to all that have quit. Its quite an achievement :)

After trying several times with various methods, the book worked for me.

30-40 a day to 0 overnight with little craving. Now over 2 years since I last smoked and no desire to again.

I have this book and have yet to read it. I think its time for me to quit as well, both for money and long term health reasons, think this will be my morning and evening read from now on.

Good to see all the people who have quit with its help, two people at work both read the book and swear by it as well

I have never smoked and I have never tried a cigarette but from those who do they have told me that their first experience of trying a cigarette was never a good one. Usually coughing and spluttering etc or nausea was felt, iirc, when they first tried.
If that is the case then what is it that compels you to then try your second cigarette and continue to smoke when often the first isn't a good experience..?

Just curious :)

BTW- Good luck to those who are doing their best to quit smoking. Sadly my Dad died due to its effects and my brother is suffering with emphysema, whilst still smoking.

Excuse me? I enjoy smoking.. Or is that not allowed in your world?

Read the book and it will make sense. I thought I enjoyed it until I read the book. I couldn't believe how easy it was with Allen's method. I had quit once before and had to endure days of pain and terrible cravings. With the book I had my last cig while reading the final few pages, stubbed it out with a smile on my face and haven't looked back.

The only problem with the book that trying to recommend it to someone makes you sound like a high and mighty idiot.

I smoked for 15 years and quit cold turkey on December 24th, 2009. Sometimes it really is that simple.

For the record I have never craved nor smoked another cigarette since. I have no idea why it was so easy for me (it was not my first attempt mind you) but I think I was just ready. A lot of people quit due to external pressures (sometimes subconsciously) and don't actually want to quit and in these circumstances it wont work. If you genuinely want to quit, and its for yourself, you will do it.

Just my 2p :)

What about all the people who never get to that stage? I never did. I wanted to quit, but I couldn't manage the anxiety (not the craving) when I did try . I read the book, I understood the concept, but I DID feel like I was giving something up regardless of understanding why I felt that way. I always caved in.

SOMETIMES, it is that simple. Most of the time, it isn't.

I'm quite happy vaping. No need to hit rock bottom to quit, no quitting to do in fact. Feel better, smell better, costs are negligible, and I still get to enjoy the habit without being a social pariah. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to quit as badly as you cold turkey guys, or who fails to reprogram themselves with Allen Carr's book.

I'm still in the belief that you need to want to quit for yourself and not because a book might change your mind.
Taking the knowledgeable approach in knowing that your health will improve and your quality of life will get better as you age, sure it's tough at the start but if you can get over the first 72 hours when the nicotine craving is at its highest you can do it.

Wish all you guys the best in quitting.

if he just talked at you whenever you lit a cig you'd quit within the first toke...well right up until you killed him then had a cigarette on his lifeless and soundless corpse.

I never said it wasn't. I was merely arguing the other side of your statement. Hence the word "sometimes".

Sometimes the book can teach you the skills necessary to help you quit. Everyone is different and little methods that helped someone could be a big help for other people. Meanwhile others look at it and go "what a load of snake oil, just quit". Horses for courses really.

I found it worked wonderfully but I fell for what they warn about at the end of the book. Thinking it was too easy, getting drunk and having a cigarette thinking ah, I'll just give up again, it was dead easy.

I read it twice more after I started smoking again, and it wouldn't stick.

16 hour patches didn't work, I eventually got really fed up and motivated, got some 24 hour patches, and they worked in 3 days! I don't know if it was the patches or that I was more motivated or what, but they did the trick :)

Is this true though, I have had a few cigs in my life time and every day I wake up and feels like someone has emptied a load of ash in my mouth, its very dry and yacky, I presume once you smoke everyday you get use to this taste and lack of sense.

I can't remember if I ever smoked a cig and thought ohh dear my mouth is gonna feel like an ash tray in the morning lol
After food or with a pint that's the last thing on your mind.
