Alan Smith

Why, where is Rio going?

We already have Nevilles replacement, and he's proven he's Utd through and through and plays with a lot of heart, more so than a few of the current first team players.

whos GAry's replacement? Cos rio is crap nowadays.. i think they should replace him :) If they had only bought Cicinho :(

That wouldn't be a replacement, they are two different types of players. Sure we could make use of him, but not to replace Rio or Neville...

cicinho is a Right Defender, and they could get someone to replace Rio easily.. :)

edit: they could even try Piqué in the first team for a bit...

Philip Bardsley is Neville's replacement. Pique is also a good young central defender. We have some promising players like this including Rossi, but it'll be few years before you see them in the first team. Rossi should be played in a similar role to Scholes, but that would only make Fletcher look even worse and Ferguson would never have that. Rio is not crap nowadays, he's been played out of position for a few games and is looking to regain some form. If you want to see crap, look back at our early games this season. That is what a crap Rio plays like.

I think there's tinge if hypocrisy here. Money talks. Everyone here in Alan Smith's shoes would have gone to ManU regardless. I mean come on do you think he would turn down a move on principle, it was a buisness decision on his part, and in buisness as they say, 'thats buisness'.

Shearer did.

Plus to add to that, the business that I am in is very competitive. There is one company in particular that behaved in a disgraceful way but is one of the industry leaders. They asked me to do some work for them on a much inflated price to my normal rate and I refused, purely on principle as I disagree with the way they work and have always said I would never work for them no matter what cash they threw at me.

You are right to say that business is business, but principles are principles. If you don't mean it, don't say it - that's the problem most people have with Smith, not that he WENT to Utd but that he said he NEVER WOULD.

I can understand why people dislike Smith so much. Personally I'd still be sad about his injury but I can see why some people will not lose any sleep over it.

I'm a Leeds fan, and just wanted to input my opinion on the Smith situation.

I never begrudged Smith moving, I knew he would once we we're relegated, the fact he said in his own words he would never join Man UTD, and that made Leeds fans a little happier that Man Utd wern't stealing one of our best players. And of course, there is a huge rivalry between us and Man Utd.
Then of course he joined them. He did recieve other offers, and moved to Man Utd out of his own choice, going back on what he said, now looking at it, it's a bad move for now, playing out of position (even so he may prefer the midfield role now), starting on the bench, has not won anything at Man Utd, has he? And now this serious injury.

Same goes for Kewell, everyone knew he would leave, and so he should, his talent was too good for the Championship, it was obvious he would move to Arsenal/Liverpool, who are not rivals to Leeds...But he never said who he would like to join/not to join, so he couldn't be critisised.

Anyway, it's not nice to see any players with that kind of injury, I hope he recovers, would have been nice playing against him next season. :p

It was on Talk Sport this morning that police are review CCTV footage outside the ground after the game. Apparently the Ambulance taking Smithy to the Hospital was stoned and pelted with bricks. Once in traffic they attempted to turn the Ambulance over.

Even the bitterest rivalry should know some limits

You have no idea wether that is true or not. Rumours like this are often quoted as fact in years to come so should not be speculated or commented on until known as fact.

back on topic, get well soon alan

Fair enough, Its fact and it should be condemned, The way Loki posted it sounded like speculation.

mental note to self check news before posting :p

I did try and put it as speculation as the last thing that is needed is someone saying its fact when it quite clearly isn't. Relationships between the two sets of supporters is bad enough as it. Thank god we dont play each other again this season thats all
