*** Alien: Covenant ***

Well after watching it yesterday i enjoyed it as a film, Just not liking the way the story line is going.

Not really liking that its all about david and its him who created the alien as we know it. would have been a lot better to leave it as the engineers who created them but also to learn more about them, why they created the black goo/alien and why they wanted to destroy us.

The main women just doesn't cut it for me. I reckon the second captains mrs would have been a better ripply type character.

As already been mentioned where have the spores come from? There a lot more lethal than face huggers. Also why was the ship crashed into the mountain? it docked with that other thing fine when they arrived.

Just all seems like its gone a bit too weird.

I reckon what should happen next is david sets up the colony to make more face hugger fodder. Earth finds out whats happening and sends in the marines. Pulse rifles, grenades, drop ships, done.

Remember Alien takes place chronologically after Covenant.

I realise that but it still does put the timeframe and further explaination into doubt. If per say David did make them then why did the Engineers bother to transport them and they themselves were careless enough to get infected and crash land to make the first Alien possible?

My thoughts as well, although i find it interesting that David was the creator in pursuit of the perfect race, it does make me a little concerned spinning this into an entirely different direction which messes with the history and lore of Alien but that of course is just my opinion

Watched it a few hours ago.. god that was bad.
Just bad! It's 3am and I had to get on the net to say ...it was bad.

Felt like it was made by committee of SJW filled with silly ideas.
Holy hell blade runner is gonna be horrific!

Watched Saturday night and I really enjoyed it.

As mentioned, not wholly sold on David being the creator of the Alien but at least it helps to explain why he was putting the goo into drinks in Prometheus - he's just a bit mental.

GF and I both found the white skinned creatures scarier than the Alien - which is understandable as we all know the Alien so good they managed to get that right.

Loudest chuckle in the audience from the "fingering" line was from my GF. A proud moment for me ;)

One of the few things that annoyed was the 2nd in command guy - if he was that incapable of dealing with the situation, what is he doing being 2nd in command? And his decision to not to go Orgasm 6 (a miss-hear from my GF - clearly mind elsewhere) was a bit too quick even if they didn't want to go back in the pods.

Usual other questions -what laid the eggs? If David needed biological beings to work on his creations, why wipe out the species on the planet - and why bother in the first place?

Shaw's fate reveal was a bit underplayed. If we were supposed to care for her in Prometheus then we needed more time to absorb her fate.

If this the 2nd film in a new trilogy - and only now do the Aliens exist, then maybe in the 3rd film the Engineers discover what David is up to and go find him. An Engineer befriends Daniels, explains to her why they want the humans destroyed, she helps change their minds and together they stop David. Everyone's a winner, pats on the back all round. Daniels is sent off hoping to be picked up "by the network" and Engineer guy, with fresh news that perhaps the humans deserve a 2nd chance, sets off for home. Not long into his journey, he feels unwell, a Queen bursts out his chest (I know about the egg/David thing so yeah, but being an Engineer his DNA could induce a Queen birth) and she hops off into the caves underneath the crashed ship and lays "thousands of eggs, thousands"

7.5/10 Very good Alien film. Mostly repairs the sins of Prometheus, mostly.

Hmm, at what point can we discuss this without the spoiler tags? Perhaps edit the title to say spoilers? Although you come in here at this point you deserve any spoilers you get!

Anyways, think some folk are being a little too harsh.
Changing course to a planet where a seemingly human signal is coming from that looks far more habitable than where you were going isn't that much of a stretch. Especially if you have the option to just carry on to where you were going if it doesn't pan out.

The walking outside without at least air filters was insanely dumb though. They could simply have shown the virus penetrating a cut or something after a fall.

Full size eggs and how the ship with Shaw ended up in a hillside... we're definitely missing bits of the jig saw. If intentional they probably should have done a better job at letting us know and may be answered later because otherwise just screams plot hole.

If David didn't commit genocide due to them maybe killing Shaw then perhaps she sees what he does, and then takes over the ship slamming it into the mountain to make sure he can't get to earth to do the same there.

Had a thought last night...

They see the distress signal being played inside the crashed juggernaut, looks like Shaw due to the longer hair but you never see the face clearly. However we then see David with long hair, perhaps it was him deliberately baiting humans in for experiments?

I enjoyed it overall. The tension, the atmosphere and cinematography were all excellent as far as I'm concerned.

I did find a bit of it somewhat disappointing however in that some of the plot holes are bloody gaping caverns that any simpleton can identify. The disappointing bit for me is how easy some of this stuff would be plug with a few extra scenes, a bit of extra script etc. It just feels like it's either intentionally made that way or its sheer incompetence, either way these are not the sort of things for the punter to be taking their own view on. It needs explaining in detail, after all that's why us Alien fans went to see this, to get stuff explained.

Yeah, I let the planet change thing go as they could always have moved on if it didn't work out.

Agree, wondering about without suits on. In real life that just wouldn't work but then neither would the rest of the film - bit of license required I think.

Eggs with no source is an issue. How did David create as much as he did? Agree that really deserves an explanation.

It's Shaw on the table with her intestines exposed - so assume David killed her. Would answer a question of how the ship crashed if Shaw was trying to stop him.

Pretty average tbh. Certainly better than Prometheus even though it really dragged in the middle and the plot ran on rails of everyone being stupid, the end twist was a bit too obvious for my liking and I would have liked more focus on the Engineer plot rather than "here's a thing from Prometheus but back to Alien in a cave", I know Prometheus wasn't warmly received but they could have rehabbed that plotline with a good follow up rather than abandon it.
