that scene is pure comedy, tiny alien, big human, bigger gun.... banana skin laurel and hardy style woooooops! then she blows the ship up, the director must know its just all stupid... its almost like they are trying to make it comedy - going for the "its so bad, it's good"...
Non stupid way to kill the ship... have her tussle with the alien get a bit cut up... throw it back and blast the poop out of it.. have the alien explode in gore, its blood eats into the deck and into something important / explosive below the decks.... no really stupid "stupidity" needed
