*** Alien: Covenant ***

I just wonder if Fox will reconsider that other Aliens movie that was pitched considering this is getting pretty meh reviews at best.
They really should. Ridley Scott comes off as a nightmare in the interviews. Wanting to churn out alien movies Hollywood blockbuster style with no clue what he's doing. It's seriously been suggested his next alien film might be a prequel to covenant to bridge the gap between Prometheus..... madness.

"It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonisation ship is on the way....".

"If this [Covenant] is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more."

Watching Aliens right now.
Having watched the idiotic directors over lit cut of alien and Prometheus why I'd bother with covenant I don't know.

just seen it - meh, pretty weak (although the people i were with seemed to like it).

no tension what so ever and the 'surprise' was so predictable.

i think Ridley should stop making movies - he's lost it.

Looking at Ridley Scott's history, there are plenty of bad movies in there. Why is he held in such high light?
Keep churning out stuff, eventually some will stick.

Genuinely I see him as an ad man. That said Alien, the dualists, matchstick men and the martian are good, Blade runner is aesthetically pleasing but weak compared to the source. Still compared to Tony he's great.

Fox will just base it on revenue only and not reviews I would have thought.

And given how vocal Scott has been about awakening and it's story being a prequel to AC (sounds dumb already) I'm guessing that's already Greenlit.

Scott really is against an alien 5 that was planned it seems.

Oh - a really interesting comment from ms weaver on the alien resurrection bonus features... she felt (circa 1997) that she had to get out of the series as "I heard they were going to do something absolutely dreadful like alien vs predator" :D

Haven't seen the AvP films all the way through so will have to look at those at some point.

Despite how "bad" Scott may have got, it shocks me people want Blomkamp to have a go at this. He has made 1 good film in 3, District 9 of course, Elysium is dog**** and Chappie is only passable because of Sharlto Copley as the robot.

He has a single style, which while was great in D9, quickly got tired 10 minutes into Elysium.

The only good thing I can think that NB would bring to the franchise is visual style and casting Sharlto Copley :D

The horse whisper part is what really breaks it all for me. I could get past the stupid crew again but considering how many times an alien has been face to face with a human it just made a mockery out of the alien.

You'll be saving yourself a lot of time if you pretend they don't exist. I'm a massive AvP fan from the graphic novels and the films are just utter garbage.

I don't know the first AvP movie isn't totally dreadful, its not a classic that's for sure but its at least on a par with resurrection.
AvP Requiem is truly garbage.

I enjoyed Covenant, its not brilliant but it was a pretty good film. Face it we are not going to get a film as good as Alien/Aliens again but this wasn't as bad as some people are saying. a solid 7 if I had to put a number on it.

Watched it last night, meh describes it perfectly.
Am I right in saying this is still a trilogy or has that changed. If it is don't like the direction.

compared to alien this alien was pretty pants and these people were like out of a pee take horror, a proper alien would have killed them in seconds.

Loved it. Very good film, might even go catch it again at the cinema.

Just a well balanced movie, good story, visceral horror scenes, suspenseful bits, action shooty bits, some good talky scenes all wrapped up in a well-paced decent length film.

Story and lore side of it was interesting without bogging the film down too much like Prometheus. Much better cast too.

From the Making Of docs it's made clear that the director wanted to make an Alien film and AvP was his only chance so it's very obvious that the Alien part of the Film is done with care and love for canon yet the Predator part (which the director said he didn't even like) is bloody awful, re-writing Predator canon because it didn't match with his personal vision. Even worse is that in AvP canon there is no "hero" Alien, other than the Queen, as the drones are only dangerous due to weight of numbers, not individual skill, and they are no match individually for a Predator despite the film showing the "Net" Alien killing 2 of the 3 Predators alone.

The original AvP graphic novels/books are faithful to both Alien and Predator canon and are much more highly regarded by both sets of fans as opposed to the movies which, at best, are regarded as mediocre and thats a massive shame considering the original AvP stories they could have used.

Worst film I've seen in ages. I'll say no more.

Made up for it 2 days later with guardians. Which was awesome

Edit. I'll give it a rating of 3.
Prometheus was a 5
Allen 3 a 7
Aliens a 9.5
Alien a 8

Dull, incompetent, unlikeable, predictable and stupid sum in up

Been an enormous Alien fan for years (not that it validates this opinion any more or less) and... I really liked it...

Whilst the characters are less developed then a sock full of lukewarm beans and the plot is FAAAR too ambitious for the framework of the movie, I found lots of little things to love.

The thing I love about Scott (probably the only thing these days) is that he has not only the determination to put most of the money on screen, but he genuinely seems to want to make interesting, philosophically elevated Science fiction movies, even if he fails almost every time.

I think the problem is both the studio and Scotts untamed ambitions clashing constantly. It felt at times as though the movie was never meant to have Xeno's in at all, but in fact just be a movie about David's psychosis which was BY FAR the most interesting aspect of the flick.

Whilst I can totally appreciate why it's getting an unfavourable reception, I really enjoyed it for the most part. Plus, it had some of the best kills in the series!

I certainly don't think he should stop making films. The films themselves are extremely well made. Sets, production, music, location, world building - the lot really. The only weakness is the script. He's a very good director, they just need to put their scripts through the common sense box.

Saw Charles Dance once say about scripts, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
