Aliens and UFOs explained on Google Video

Makes you wonder if there are other life forms are sitting half way accross the universe chatting on an internet forum about this exact same topic ;)

Yeah, when you think about just how much is going on on earth alone it wouldn't really surprise me when you consider how vast the universe is. :p

I've no doubt there are gazillions of lifeforms out there but are they advanced enough to travel 100's of light years in a second?
I think not.

So considering how old the universe is... and how young humanity is... you don't think that if there are other civilisations out there, that they won't have been around a lot longer than us? And that their science exceeds ours by multiples of thousands?

Just think... aliens may have access to different materials, metals, energy sources... you can't judge the technological capablity of the entire universe by our standards.

The world wouldn't fall apart and the reason they haven't announced it is because in my opinion there are none.

Fixed.

Even if their science exceeds ours by millions they still won't be able to get here.
1 light year away means that even if they could travel at the speed of light it would take 1 year to get here and it would take a lot of energy.
Why the hell would any alien culture want to do that and then do right angled turns outside our atmosphere?

Fixed - I don't think so. There are none.

Do you realise how ridiculous that sounds? If their science exceeded ours by millions then they certainly would not balk at something as trivial as a few light ears distance.

1 light year away means that even if they could travel at the speed of light it would take 1 year to get here and it would take a lot of energy.

Right so I ask again... what on earth makes you think that any advanced alien civilisation doesn't have the means or energy to do it? If humans could do it then we would in the name of science and exploration. Fact.

Fixed - I don't think so. There are none.

With all due respect... you are no remote authority whatsoever on the subject... just as i'm not. So for you to say, definitively (and somewhat laughably), that there are none means absolutely nothing. Just out of interest, how good are you with science and physics? Is it related to your job? Do you hold any formal qualfications in them?

But who's to say how far advanced any extraterrestrial life could be, they could have discovered things we could only dream of that would blow our understanding of physics out of the water. At the present from our understanding using using own known knowledge of the universe it is technically impossible to reach light speed however no one at the present can prove 100% that it's not possible :)

Rubbish, if an authority such as dmpoole says its impossible then by god it is!

Of course.
I don't think any of you realise how far these places are away from us.
I'm a massive Trekker but I don't believe a word of it because I live in the real world.

No of course, none of understand the concept of light years... it's a little too advanced for people like us. Only a clearly extraordinarily intelligent man such as yourself could possible truly comprehend such things.

For all you others who like myself are not on the same scientfic level as our learned friend dmpoole, here is the definition of a light year, courtesy of Wkipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-year

I think the problem dmpoole is that you mistake living in thereal world for narrow mindedness... maybe it's to do with your age and being stuck in your ways, my dad is similar in that respect.

We understand perfectly what a light year is.... we're just not so ignorant as to presume that we know beond all doubt that it is technologically impossible to travel those distances, especially when all we have to go by is our incredibly limited grasp of the universe as we know it... ie: **** all.

If it was down to people like you we'd still be lighting cooking fires with flint... :D

I found this interesting documentary screened originally on the discovery channel about the secret Majestic 12 group set up to research UFOs.

Discovery Channel - Majestic 12 - (10/10)

The discovery channel doesn't lie. The way I see it is that if we can conclude beyond reasonable doubt that they are here, which I believe we can, then the ‘argument of impossibility’ due to physics is clearly wrong.

edit: This video is the most convincing ever. I almost have no doubt.

lol - you're joking right??
half the stuff on discovery is complete crap - its made by journolists who know nothing about science - all they do is find some crackpot professor (and there are lot - i know a few myself) who has lived for so long in their tiny field of work that they have convinced themselves of the impossible (they believe their science like a religion, which is exactly what science shouldn't be) - and then give him airtime.

its a bit like all science rograms on tv these days - they are all rubbish and teach the ignorant bad science with incorrect 'facts'.

and i agree with dmpoole on this one - of course there must be life all over the place but the shear vastness of space means its doubtful that any contact will ever be made.

Isn't this the thing that happens with Dawkins except that he only sticks to what he considers possible lol :p your arguement can be just as easily applied to any branch of reductionist or empirical only science.

its the fact that they get stuck in a loop and believe more and more stupid stuff and it ceases to be science then - its been at least 15 years since i saw a horizon program actually talk about scientific fact instead of having some crazy prof talk about his moronic unfounded theories.

I know what you are trying to say but does science stop being science when it's not empirical ? I digress sorry! Every case should be judged on its own merits. I cannot comment on the horizon programms.

does science stop when its not empirical? - kind of yes - your theories must at least be based on some kind of evidence or be in some way related to another empirical theory - its difficult to describe, you tend to have to be a scientist to spot the credible theories from the complete nonsense, which i suppose is why journalist reporting of science is invariably wrong most of the time.

Eventually you will retain the theory if it can be shown to be valid based on evidence of course- but it doesn't always follow that our theories or even our evidence or understanding of things are true-, you therefore must, allow for the possibility that the statement you made about "and i agree with dmpoole on this one - of course there must be life all over the place but the shear vastness of space means its doubtful that any contact will ever be made" , could be false: (getting back to the original point)

If anyone wants to listen to either an amazing story about aliens or an amazing truth then watch this:

Billy Meier talks to aliens!

i watched the first 10 mins...

So theres a farmer called Billy in switzerland. (who is actully a alien ???) Aliens tell him through voices in his head when to come outside and meet them.

This ones got quite an interesting story but thats probably about it, im pretty sure the photos they show were confirmed to be fake, someone found the models in the guys barn or something, the videos are probably fake as well but they are well made considering the time and equipment used, can't remember the sites i come across atm but their debunking was pretty solid, who knows though maybe some of its true...

could be - but then its up to other people to prove the ridiculous, not believe it religously without evidence and then demand that i have to prove the (relatively) sensible option just because its less exciting.

maybe there is life, advanced life capable of reaching other galaxies, out there, but there are 100 billion galaxies (that we know about) and about 70 million million millions stars - what is the likely hood that anybody would be able to find us even if they could?? pretty slim.
