Aliens : Colonial Marines - FPS ( They're back ! )

Just done another mission and I'm not feeling the love. I'd say graphics are on par with Doom 3 (released in 2005), replace Aliens and Marines with Monsters and Grunts and all your left with is a very generic shooter with tired graphics. I've had fun with the mutiplayer and that's probably what I'll stick to.

Problem is who is going to risk making another Aliens game now? even though AVP 2010 got panned (I thought it was pretty good) It's still a better game than this in every aspect.

Completely baffles me how a Aliens a movie that was practically made for FPS as never attracted the talent and budget it deserves. Image what Crytek could have done with this.

Depends which era, Crysis 1, or Crysis 2 Crytek :p

It's not that bad, he clearly states the problems. He enjoyed it for what it is. If you disagree with his score then fair enough, but the review didn't feel disingenuous. Not like another one I read that gave the game 9/10 and the article read like the guy had never played the game and just read pre-release guff. Can't link to it, busy atm but I'm sure you know the one I'm on about.

Edit: The questionable reviewer had a truly stupid name, that's about all I remember.

To be fair Gearbox had a lot on their plate and I'm sure their priority was to ship Borderlands 2 first and well. Sega were applying pressure to release and possibly wouldn't push the release back any further. I wouldn't be surprised if GB went to Sega and said 'its not ready' and Sega said 'if it plays, ship it' and GB had no choice.

I guess that's what happens when try to make the best demo possible, which is most likely specifically designed for PC, and then end up making sacrifices for the final product because it's multi-platform (they probably didn't want to alienate their user base by making one version actually look decent - i.e., "If we can't make all versions look great, we'll make them all look ****").

It doesn't matter whos fault it is, it shouldn't have been released, maybe after all the negative feedback they may patch the hell out of it,we will see.

But it doesn't look **** on PC. I will grant you it does on console (judging from streams).

Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?

Wow. You know i thought it was weird. I remember seeing shots of this in PC Gamer magazine years and years ago and seeing a few videos that made it look amazing.

Now release has come and everyone is saying it looks and plays like crap, i can see why.

Clearly, it was designed that way first but they just couldnt get that level of dynamic lighting and detail to work on the consoles so just though **** it and gave it terrible textures and 99% static lighting and then ported it that way to the PC as well.

shocking stuff :(

The new consoles can't come soon enough. Even then, its still not a great excuse as other people have done better looking console games than this turd.

Duno if its been posted, i dont think it has yet. So figured id post it for u all.

This reminds me of Activision and Silicon Knights with the X-men Destiny controversy. Silicon Knights kept asking for extensions as they had their main team working on another project. In the end Activision said no and released a trailer with their name on it and a release date, this forced Silicon Knights to take it seriously.

Gearbox kept getting extensions from Sega as they seem to have put their main team into Borderlands 2. In the end Sega refused more extensions and we got what was released. Sega want Gearbox to be front and centre to take the blame for Aliens (and rightly so).
