alienware AW3418DW Availability in the UK?

That could be it, I think we both paid fairly low prices comparatively no? I was £880
Haha I paid £990 so I don't think that's the case. Welp.

Just sent in a contact email asking about it.... On holiday from the 26th (staying at home) so having the monitor by then would be ace.

I think that maybe we will get shipping confirmation in the coming days( Monday onwards) as IO can only assume that they make them in batches. Unless they work on a last in first served basis haha. Last time I bought from Dell they took my payment of 2k and forgot to log my order, it then took me 3 months to convince them that it had happened. I did manage to get some sweet upgrades on my order but it was 3 months of frustration to do so.

What's more concerning to me is that they took payment and then refunded it - I presumed that it was due to the time between order and shipment.

I did contact support and they said it was in production and my order was fine. Maybe I've fallen into this ominous Dell order blackhole? I'm going to complete some work today so I can contact them Monday morning.

It's probably simply that they don't want to take your money if the monitor hasn't even been manufactured yet. That's actually Dell being nice - they aren't charging you until it is 100% on the way.

@eagle2508 Yes I am aware of how that works but it is not in their best interest to refund someone for an order they have taken and are processing. I may be skeptical but it is for good reason, and I am just trying to make sure he gets on top of it because its a pain in the arse to sort out. On the other hand, maybe it was a mistake and he gets the monitor for free :-P

Free is always good! :D

Had a call back first thing this morning - Which was quite impressive tbh.

My order had been pushed back due to misunderstanding the fact I'm on holiday. The agent initially thought I wasn't going to be at home. Whoops. The unit itself is being made in china and posted all the way across apparently.

The gent is going to ask for the date to be brought forward if possible but the order is progressing. Their standard practice is to do exactly as eagle2508 said and charge to make sure the funds are there and then refund to be charged at shipping.

@rawuk Dayum, I am glad you confirmed this. It looks like that is what happened with me too as of this morning. Good thing I did't go and spend it on something in the meantime without realising lol

Sounds like a strange practice to me though to be honest, bu ti guess it is to prevent people who don't actually have the money ordering them or something.

Did they give any sort of update on time-frame?

They confirmed my device would definitely arrived before the 3rd April but nothing more concrete sadly.

My delivery date should have been tomorrow , so I phoned Dell and asked them if my monitor will be delivered and he said it hasn't been built yet as they don't have all the parts in stock and will let me know new date.

It would make sense that all the monitors ordered in February would come across in one massive order. Fingers crossed you get a date for next week. If it goes too far ahead it may be my date is also a "pseudo" date.

I phoned up yesterday to enquire about my order number acting up.

The guy apologised profusely and said it was shocking that I had been waiting so long. I tried to explain that there was a long-lead time from the start but he didn't quite grasp it. Promised to bundle me some kind of goodwill gesture when he got it resolved.

Not heard from him since the confirmation email yesterday morning. This could become a shambles!

Explains why there are not so quick to offer good discounts right now.

I hope an improved QI process is part of the delay.... I do not fancy the prospect of exchanges due to issues with this kind of turnaround

This is my worry now too. The reason I went to Dell directly beyond the saving was due to the impressive warranty.

Honestly I'm becoming tempted to simply cancel and hold off getting a UW for a while. Which is a shame as it looks like a very impressive monitor.
