Alienware M11x

I was well for ordering this about a month ago but after thinking about the size of it and the lack of a newer processor variant i will pass :( maybe at the next iteration they will stick a nice i5/7 in it or release a 13in one if these sell well enough to warrant another smaller form factor laptop. Which i think is somewhat likely as lets face it who wants to buy a big ass 15/17in laptop with no battery life when you can get a nice tidy 11 or 13 in one with a similar "wow" factor.

Tuesday! when did you order it? that seems quick. Can you give us your impressions when it arrives? :)
Ordered on 17th Feb... was supposed to be tuesday, but now the online thing isn't updating. Just called the shipping company and have said it's not arrived from China yet, so looking at Weds at the earliest.

Used to much prefer Dell when they were Ireland based, rather than call centres in India and builds in China... so much easier to work with!

Yes please, how much did you pay for yours mate? im really interested in one of these!
I paid £850 with SU7300, 500gb HDD, Win 7 Pro and 2gb RAM. I thought I'd get Win 7 Pro (£40 upgrade) so I can use the XP Mode if needed. Also only went for 2gb RAM, as the upgrade to 4gb was £80 and I bought 4gb from OcUK for £75, save a fiver and sell on the other 2gb for a few quid too.

I'm just hoping that when I get it home, I can switch off all of the red lights etc and it will look like a quirky but not awful looking laptop.

Yeah, all the lights can be switched off apart from the alienhead on the back of the screen (as that uses the light from the LED screen aparantly). Also you can choose which lights you want on independantly so you can keep the option of keyboard lighting but not those awful speaker grill 'boy racer' lights!

That all sounds fine to me!

Mine is out for delivery now!

First impressions, very solid, far less tacky than some of the pics make it look, the back of the screen is very sturdy, I love the feel of the palm rest too and the trackpad is great.

The keyboard is also very nice, if you can look past the alien-style font.

I've turned off all Alien FX lighting, aside from the keyboard, which I have set to white, so standard backlight style - if a little brighter than you'd normally get. Switching graphics is as simple as an FN key press. I've taken unboxing pics, will upload in a minute.

Also, upgrading the ram was very simple.

One issue I had with mine, which really annoyed me was the front palm rest was loose, there was a missing screw, I've nabbed one from my work Dell lappy, but it's still annoying, spent 20 mins on the phone to them today in order to get them to send me out a single screw! They just couldn't fathom the fact I understood more about their laptops than them (I've downloaded the service manuals from their website, very useful).

I've not gamed on it yet, was letting Steam grab L4D4 and DoW2 last night.

lol that sounds right for Dell. I deal with them all the time and speaking to their first line support is painful. I had to get a sxps 13 LCD and lid changed recently and trying to get it into their head it wasnt a software issue was hard work.

looking forward to the pics, should tide me over for a few minutes and keep me from hitting refresh on my order status :)

I can't imagine why anyone would want this... 11" of screenage is just too small in my opinion - even for normal computer use...
