I can't say that I'm greatly offended by the use of words such as manure, scum or even hate! But I am greatly saddened that seemingly intelligent people willingly resort, and even openly boast, about calling football teams and their supporters such names. IMO it's a sad day indeed!
Other than that I've really got nothing new to say. But I will re-print some of my page one post, if only to press my point:
"Gents, my personal opinion (for what it's worth) is that far too many people who post in this forum allow their hearts to rule their heads.
We could start to calm things down by refusing to use the very emotive words such as hate and scum etc. Of course there are people who use this terminology but say they don't mean it as it sounds - so why use it? It only serves to wind up the younger members, who then start to use the same terminology ............ and worse! This has no place in the game of football. Perhaps we could also refuse to respond to a post which is plainly just out to flame. True we are all supporters of different teams and we want our own team to be successful, particularly when playing very close rivals. But we also share a love of "the game" and surely this must transcend all this hateful/flaming stuff.
Personally, I'm as RED (that's the original ManU red!) as they come. Supported them man and boy with standing and, laterly, seated season tickets. Cut me open and, as they say, I've got ManU running right through me. But I don't hate any other football supporters. I may feel that they may be misguided, but they are not scum!
Perhaps the word I am searching for is gentlemanly. Yes, that may be the word. By all means lets support our teams; discuss the positive and negative attributes, lets even be passionate! But please let's not call each other names and ridicule people. There really is no need for it, you know.
Dons? who needs Dons (sorry Cem). We're all human beings; most of us think fairly logically, and we should be adult enough to be able to moderate ourselves. If not, than perhaps we should seriously think about not posting when we are in that type of mood or can't find a non-blatently offensive word to use.
That's it. My bit said. I'm not having a go at anyone in particular, they are general comments so nobody needs to take offence. All my own work and as always, IMO."
As above, no offence to anyone it's my personal opinion.
