All Football Fans In Here

Actually I used the word "scum" as it went along side "toilet" quite nicely :p

Personally I don't like the word scum being used to refer to a football team as...well I don't see the point & tbh find it a tad sad. I would prefer not to see it as it really does seem to rile up some Man U fans resulting in a fair old amount of insults flying back & forth, but I am not gonna ban the word scum as surely we can just get along. Maybe Gilly & others use it a tad less & Robert & Nitro react less to it realising that it is only a word :).

Tbh one of the reasons I would like to see it less is coz it gets damned confusing sometimes :D as diff people seem to refer to diff teams as scum as & when it suits them, but anyway, I digress :)

There just has to be a bit of a chilled approach to posting really. If you are wound up come back when you can laugh about it. If you are mocking/laughing at a team do it in a humourous way. Tis all :p

Can you just clarify why i was temp banned before :)

I didn't sus you but at a guess "you should go to a sheep farm and carry on your business there" (i.e. getting involved in the argument with an insult albeit light & witha smilie) though compared to the other two you definately were not the main cause. Personally wouldn't have sus'd you but I was not about when it happened.

I believe it was because the Man Utd - Arsenal spoiler thread was becoming very heated and you were one of three people considered to be amongst the most heated. Two others were also given a brief holiday to cool off :)

EDIT - Bah, beaten by the speedy fingers of Cembot :D

erm in reference to man utd being called scum

Gilly you saidsomething along the lines of not caring really what names we come up for any other team and cem you said you dont mind the term scum being used although you wish it wasn't correct so far ?

well remember before the big nuke ? remember when for about two weeks I stopped referring to leeds utd as leeds utd and instead began referring to them as retards ?

I was warned not to do it again, if what has been said here etc is to go by i should be allowed to call any team in the PL by anything that I like because I am referring to the team and not to any individual poster, but as i was warned i started calling them thuggery utd.

In reality I much much rather to refer to teams by there correct names or accepted shortenings, I would prefer to call leeds United, leeds, leeds United etc or Arsenal Arseneal or the Gunners etc etc

the need for some people to use the derogatory term scum and or scummers in reference to a football team in my view is a personal insult to each and every fan of said team regardless of the reason for it.

If you take football half way seriously everyone is going to be offended by having there team there players, there compatriots and there manger referred to as scum.

If you disagree then fair enough but all I can see happening is an influx of derogatory names for all other teams which would make this forum a far worse place.

And to be fair by not banning or asking for us to use the terms for each individual team the forum is asking for this to happen.

There are probably a good proportion maybe one quarter of the regular posters or more that are man utds fans, at least two of us have remarked that this greatly offends us and we wish it to stop within the forum.

I sincerely hope that it does

I can't say that I'm greatly offended by the use of words such as manure, scum or even hate! But I am greatly saddened that seemingly intelligent people willingly resort, and even openly boast, about calling football teams and their supporters such names. IMO it's a sad day indeed!:(

Other than that I've really got nothing new to say. But I will re-print some of my page one post, if only to press my point:

"Gents, my personal opinion (for what it's worth) is that far too many people who post in this forum allow their hearts to rule their heads.

We could start to calm things down by refusing to use the very emotive words such as hate and scum etc. Of course there are people who use this terminology but say they don't mean it as it sounds - so why use it? It only serves to wind up the younger members, who then start to use the same terminology ............ and worse! This has no place in the game of football. Perhaps we could also refuse to respond to a post which is plainly just out to flame. True we are all supporters of different teams and we want our own team to be successful, particularly when playing very close rivals. But we also share a love of "the game" and surely this must transcend all this hateful/flaming stuff.

Personally, I'm as RED (that's the original ManU red!) as they come. Supported them man and boy with standing and, laterly, seated season tickets. Cut me open and, as they say, I've got ManU running right through me. But I don't hate any other football supporters. I may feel that they may be misguided, but they are not scum!

Perhaps the word I am searching for is gentlemanly. Yes, that may be the word. By all means lets support our teams; discuss the positive and negative attributes, lets even be passionate! But please let's not call each other names and ridicule people. There really is no need for it, you know.

Dons? who needs Dons (sorry Cem). We're all human beings; most of us think fairly logically, and we should be adult enough to be able to moderate ourselves. If not, than perhaps we should seriously think about not posting when we are in that type of mood or can't find a non-blatently offensive word to use.

That's it. My bit said. I'm not having a go at anyone in particular, they are general comments so nobody needs to take offence. All my own work and as always, IMO."

As above, no offence to anyone it's my personal opinion.:)

Ditto :)

Sadly I'm not entirely confident much is gonna change but I guess we'll see...

Dunno if its age or what, but it seems there are a few supporter, not just man u ones, who cannot see beyond their own team, and they just seem to take everything the wrong way:(

Agreed, there are a few posters here who take things far too personally when an "insult" is very obviously meant in jest, thus resulting in heated posts leading to true flaming.

that may well be true mate but one mans joke is another mans insult.

To answer Gilly there are a few newer posters thinking about it who have been involved in the two or three most heated threads recently, one in particular but I dontthink there has been an influx of Man utd fans more an influx of Man Utd Haters.

Only if the second man chooses to take it that way, and it being not meant that way, seems pretty silly to me.

Can you point these out to me please? I've yet to see an influx of these. I can't think of ANY that have joined since the nuke. I can only think of 2 or 3 Man United fans that have joined (or just started posting in here) since the Big Nuke.

Gilly I'm not gonnaname names but there at least 3-4 that have come on ranging from in the last couple of weeks to just after BN

There are a few more Man Utd supporters however as well at least 2-3 I can think of from the top of my head. But seeing as though basically everyone who doesnt support Man utd on here either hates them, has a strong dislike or loves getting digs in it kinda does outnumber the Man Utd supporters somewhat.

Oh No footballs gone pc:p , nah seriously there is a limit, and some folk have gone over top with insults in the heat of the moment

An influx of Man U haters? Nah. Everyone hates the arrogant cheating winging gits :p ;)

They can never accept that they have been beaten by a better team. It was either the refs fault ( Never at OT though ), the shape of the ball, the pitch, aliens, a full moon etc. Basically anything but the truth.

Still, old Houlliers been a bit carefree with the excuses as well this season.

There is no doubt that Arsenal and Man U are currently the teams to beat. They both play breathtaking football but IMO Arsenal shade it.

Anyway enjoy it while you can. The only reason your there is a missfiring Liverpool. The greatest team in England ever.

I disagree because to take that argument to its conclusion, I could say to someone "Your mother is a [foul-mouthed expletives]" and when they take offence, act surprised and say " I meant it as a joke! You just took it the wrong way - can't you take a joke!"

You seem to be saying that because someone says their abuse is a joke, that's alright. I disagree - there are limits and for me 'scum' goes beyond the limit of acceptability.

Nah, I was talking about obvious jokes that are taken offensively in order to start an argument. Seen plenty of that going on myself.

And for me scum goes nowhere near the line, never mind crossing it.
