All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Ah you have got to love our press. Along with agents they are the most annoying people involved in football.

All this Ronaldo is leaving, Ronaldo has agreed Real move, just need to pursuade Utd to sell just make you want to laugh. All this despite him saying in front of 17m people he wants to stay.

Reminds me a little of the Berbatov saga. All the papers linking him with everyone and how he is off. His agent stating he is off (the player saying nothing) yet none of these exclusives that the papers have actually materialise.

The longer Ronaldo stays in the headlines the better, as Berba wont be :D

I am hearing Tottenham have all but completed a deal for Lyon and France keeper Gregory Coupet for £2.5m on a £35,000 per week contract.

That would all but see the end of Robinson's time at WHL, cannot see him playing 2nd fiddle to Coupet, maybe Boro will go for him.

Shevchenko's record is 22 goals in 75 games (if what the paper printed is true) which isnt really that bad considering the majority of his games were substitute appearances.

The old Ronaldo and Torres arguement is getting boring now. The fact is, your only worth what a team is willing to pay for you.

If Real want to pay £100 million for Ronaldo then he is worth £100 million to them. Be that solely on football ability or from Real's point of view a marketing ability. The same marketing ability that Torres doesn't have because that honour belongs to Raul.

On the Zidane debate. In terms of footballing ability Ronaldo is not quite at the level of Zidane, but what is being overlooked (mainly because the majority of people are anti-United) is that if this transfer was to go ahead then Ronaldo has 6 years (age wise) on Zidane at the time of his transfer therefore Real see the potential to improve and become the best ever post war player and thus justifying the transfer fee.

Not to mention the fact that the revenue Ronaldo would generate off the field will vastly outweigh that which Zidane added. Football is no longer just a sport its now a business and the sooner people here realise that the better.

Wouldn't make sense to get both, I don't think we could get Richards anyway. Alves would be a great signing, not so keen on Fabiano.

I am not sure United really need Luis Fabiano. Where would he fit in exactly? As for the right back, with Gary Neville not getting any younger and not exactly fighting fit and Wes Brown (admittedly he has had a good season) isnt a World Class right back for me.

SSN saying Spurs close to signing Dos Santos from Barca for £11m. Looks like a quality young player so I think it would be a great signing for Spurs if they can pull it off.

Would be a great signing if he lives up to potential. What I have seen of him in La Liga he has been class, and two of his goals against Murcia were real quality.

Also, £11m isnt a bad price either.

A few stories I have heard/read this morning:

Samir Nasri signed for Arsenal last night, however I cannot find any concrete evidence of this.

Tottenham have matched the buy out clause of in Diego Capel's contract. (What with him, Modric and potentially dos Santos coming thats a whole new attacking midfield, not exactly the area that needs strengthening).

Pleb is off to Barca.

Sorry, only just seen this.

I can't really carry on this debate because it's quite clear you don't see much of Hleb. Saying he can't beat anyone for pace or isn't very creative is just plain wrong. Hleb is deceptively quick, I even recall him totally burning Evra last season at the Emirates, and Evra is one of the quickest players in the league.

Did you watch the last Man U Vs Arsenal clash? Hleb was our best player by a country mile and everything good we did that day came through him. I've said it before but Hleb will provide a team mate with atleast one guilt-edged chance a game, and at this level that is normally all you need. In the aforementioned game at Old Trafford for example, Hleb skinned Pique and put a goal on a plate for Adebayor, who in turned tried what he always does - an Henry finish - got it horribly wrong (as per usual) and hit it straight at VDS.

You can throw the goals and assists stats round all you like but I'll ignore them everytime. He doesn't score goals, it's no secret. You know it, I know it and most importantly Wenger knows it too, yet Hleb still finds his way on to the teamsheet week in week out. It obviously isn't quite as big a deal for some because what Hleb does offer more than makes up for the lack of goals.

Anyway, looks like this is all rather academic because it seems Hleb might stay afterall. Not conclusive by any means, but certainly something.

I can't argue with that, even though I think the guy is a prat (I mean pleb not the poster). When I have the displeasure of sitting through an Arsenal game or highlights I am often left wondering why he doesn't take a chance and have a good.

He is an unselfish player and probably one of the only reasons he wont be considered world class is because of his inability to score often.

Didier Drogba's proposed transfer to AC Milan could spark a £100m striker merry-go-round involving the transfers of Karim Benzema, Dimitar Berbatov, Samuel Eto'o, David Villa, Diego Milito and Klaas Jan Huntelaar. (Daily Mirror)

But with who going where I wonder? Also, last I heard was that Milan had been given permission to speak with Berbatov after meeting our valuation. Him and Drogba up front would be interesting.

Paul Robinson's days at Tottenham could be numbered as Spurs boss Juande Ramos is chasing Manchester City keeper Joe Hart and France stopper Gregory Coupet. (The Independent)

His days have been numbered ever since Juande arrived, so thats old news. The only thing we need to know is who is going to replace him. So far we have had the following linked with us:

Gregory Coupet
Joe Hart
Carlos Kameni
The Giant who plays for PSV
Scott Carson
Robert Green
Allan McGregor
Artur Boruc

At this rate Robinson will be staying as first choice.
