Bentley avoiding photo at Spurs training?

:p

That would have been interesting. Noting the hair, I'm guessing its Taarabt.

Goal.com are reporting that Man Utd have accepted and offer for Ronaldo (their source being a leading Spanish Newspaper).

Friday must really be a slow day for transfer news.

Berbatov is a class player on the other hand, poor attitude maybe but a class class player.

Not to mention he has scored 20 goals in both his 2 seasons in England, not bad for a lazy git.

Frustrates the hell out of my though when I watch him play. Which makes it even more surprising SAF wants him.

Veron cost 28m btw.

Who are Carson and Pennant being sold to? Fairly obviously Liverpool will get a striker, probably Villa. Just depends if other clubs come in and start a bidding war though.

You wont get Villa. He issued a statement that he wont leave Valencia unless Valencia decide to sell him, and then he will only leave to join Madrid.

It is also believed that Madrid are going to turn to him now that it is unlikely they will get Ronaldo.

Last I heard from Liverpool fans here is that Milner is your preferred wideman signing.

Nay, there hasn't been any word on Keane since Spurs denied he had put in a transfer request.

I doubt we'll get Keane. I think there's more chance of getting Villa personally, although that's unlikely too.

Anyone know when the transfer window closes?

The Keane deal was always a non starter.

As for the transfer window, it closes on 31st August at midnight.

Why dont premiership clubs buy lower league players anymore?

Where are the Ian Wright's, Andy Cole's, Stan Collymore's?

Do they not exist in the lower leagues anymore?

Portsmouth did, they signed Nugent, and Fulham signed Healy, and they hardly set the world alight did they.

What he means by "unlike me" is that unlike Fabregas I dilly dally on the ball for too long then lose possession and then Cesc has to go win it back for me, and I can rinse and repeat.

I think we will get Barry for LM not CM mostly. This then leaves RM as the priority and i would prefer Quaresma to Bentley (due mostly to ego) and an outside shot at Silva who did impress me at Euro 2008. RM i can see being this seasons budget.

CF then will have to be out of the cash from Crouch and Itandje and hopefully Carson. This should give us 20mn for a decent forward like Keane who i really rate or Villa (would have to be ala Torres and due to respecting Benitez and friends like Reina and Torres).

So far;
OUT
4mn Riise
2mn Itandje
14-16mn Alonso
11mn Crouch
??? Carson
-----------------
36mn + Carson

IN
Free Deggen
8mn Dossena
15mn Barry ???
15mn RM ??
20mn Striker
----------------
58mn

To me those seem possible as semi of CL was achieved and the major off loading of Kewell, Finnan, Le Tallec, Riise wages etc. The wage bill will definitely be lower overall.

You also have no buyer for Alonso anymore as Juve have walked away from any potential deal because Liverpool tried upping the price at the last minute. In addition to this, you only actually get £7m up front for Crouch with the rest being dependent on Portsmouth achieving certain things.

So, its actually £13m plus whatever you get for Carson, although you could add the suspected £3m for Guthrie to that amount, so giving £16m

Then outgoings you have already spent £3m on this keeper and a further £8m on Dossena therefore your already at £11m which is almost what you have recouped on player transfers.

With the Barry deal still at large, rumoured to be only going ahead if you sell Alonso which is becoming more and more unlikely at the moment it doesnt look that good.

The suggestion of you wanting Keane is obviously true, but Spurs have slapped at £20m all cash up front tag on their man knowing that Liverpool havent got access to that cash.

Who says Juve have walked away? One minute they're saying the really like him and want to sign him and the next they're saying they don't discuss transfer targets

I like the work on the figures though; you only count the money we're getting up front for Crouch (which is actually just under £9m) but count the full fee for Dossena (only £6m up front)

As I am not a Liverpool fan I was unaware of the amount the Dossena fee was upfront, therefore assumed it was a one of payment.

And finally Keane; the other day every Spurs fans was saying the talk of him going to Liverpool was utter bs and now they seem to know the full details of what Spurs are demanding for him :D Even if Spurs are demanding £20m cash up front, that doesn't mean that's what they'll accept.

The talk of Keane going to Liverpool was utter rubbish up until the point it was actually put on record that Benitez wanted him. The papers speculated that Liverpool wanted him, then made up a story that Keane had handed in a transfer request.

It was until Benitez came out in an interview yesterday that there was actually any suggestion the rumour was true.

As for accepting a bid, unless Keane came out and issued a transfer request, which is not something he will do, he has already stated before that he will only leave WHL in one of two ways. 1) His contract expires, of which he has 4 years left to run or 2) We decide to sell him, which we are not likely to do as we dont have to (contrary to the reports in the paper we dont need the money).

Where is your proof?

It was all over the national press that Benitez wanted to sign, intended to bid for, and wanted to speak to Gareth Barry before last season had ended. Only the most blinkered Liverpool fan would beleive otherwise.

As for the BBC comments (Both of them) i thought he handled himself quite well. Non commital, he wants to leave but they'll have to pay the asking price. What was he supposed to say? "Well he wants to leave so you can have him for peanuts"?

And we'll see who the top 4 are next season when you're playing a left winger with no pace :p

Surely Liverpool will use Babel as their left winger?

As for the two names mentioned over the weekend, I'd take Aguero at the drop of a hat. Berbatov, whilst blessed with skill looks a bit lazy if things aren't going his way

Agree there. As a Spurs fan I would hate to see him leave for another Premiership team, but its looking more and more likely that he will go, and Utd seem to be the only club willing to negotiate a fee, it just depends how much Levy can swindle.

As for his ability, there is no question he has bundles of it, and that part of him leads me to believe he would have huge success anywhere he goes, not just at Utd, but, I cannot understand why Utd want him. SAF always tries to buy players who work their socks off for 90mins and dont get the sulk on, but Berba never works his socks off all game, and sulks more often than not.

If he does go, SAF will be dusting off that hairdryer pretty quickly.

The Berbatov deal is apparently a done deal if you read the press, with United waiting for us to find a replacement before the deal is finalised. As far as I have heard this is true with the fee around £28m in total, with £24m upfront.

It is also reported that Berbatov and Rocha have not travelled to Spain with the squad because they are lined up with moves away from the club, and Ramos didn't want players who were not likely to be at the club present at the training camp, although suggestions are that they are due to join up because no deals have yet been finalised.

As for dos Santos, Ramos have made it known he wants to play the 4-2-3-1 formation he played successfully at Seville and dos Santos, Modric and Bentley are the three he wants to have playing behind the front man. This would leave us with Keane as the lone front man, but personally I am not sure how this would work, I thought Keane would be better in the middle of the 3 just behind Bent or Roque.

Aside from our much wanted strikeforce, Rocha's move to Hull (£6m what a bummer) has fallen through apparently, with him favouring a move back to Portugal. Kaboul is on his way to Portsmouth for a similar fee, and Robbo is due to join Blackburn as part of the Bentley deal if they manage to sell Friedel who is having reservations about joining Villa as they have just agreed to sign another American keeper.

Sorry mate but that is bull.

(Berbatov is in the background on the right playing in our first friendly. That's him with a tattoo on his right arm)

The source of all these rumours is one ITK and his source has been deemed unreliable.

When he realised he was wrong about Berbatov not being in Spain he got his knickers in a twist.

My bad. I shamely copied and pasted that from another forum on a post made last week. should have actually read it before posting it:(

For the price you are welcome to him tbh.

I agree.

Its the Keane sale that I won't agree with if it goes through, still, Bent for top scorer next season anyone?

Could happen. He scored a bucket load for Charlton playing as a loan striker with the ball being knocked up to him, with him as a Spurs loan striker and the likes of Modric and dos Santos playing balls into him he could easily score 20!

*I'll get my coat shall I.

Its interesting that SAF has come out fighting and threatening legal action, he is obviously trying to use the threat of legal action to dig his way out of trouble.

Wouldn't surprise me now though if Levy refuses to do business with MU and even if that upsets Berbatov, he'll rather take less cash than send him abroad than sell to Utd after SAF's outburst.

The alleged £57m takes into conisideration those that are off to join Sunderland. It is believed that Kaboul isnt going so that takes £6m off the offer from Sunderland, but could yet still be added to the kitty as Portsmouth still want him.

Bent isnt really the yard stick by which prices should be measured, just because Spurs were stupid enough to ***** up 18 million pound for a 8 million pound player doesnt automatically mean that all of a sudden everybody else is worth twice as much as they should be.

It means Spurs are thick as pig **** and desperate.

Berbatov and Keane are only worth £20 million pounds in spurs dreams, 10 or 12 a piece mabye.

cut it out

If Berbatov and Keane are only worth £20m each in Spurs dreams then why are Liverpool prepared to pay £20m for Keane and Utd far more than that for Berbatov?

At the end of the day a player is only worth what a club is willing to pay for him. SWP wasnt worth what Chelsea paid for him, Shevchenko looking back wasnt worth what they paid, but at the time, given his form for Milan people were thinking it was. Many Utd fans were arguing that SAF over paid for Carrick when they signed him, but at the same time many Spurs fans were angry at how cheaply he was sold. Now look at him, made those Utd fans eat their hats and proved the Spurs fans correct.

At the current time Bent was not worth the £16m that Spurs paid for him (yes, more inaccuracies in your post) but as the majority of the Bent fee was dependant on his and Spurs' performance the cost hasnt worked out too expensive yet, as 4 goals and an 11 place arent going to demand much of a repayment.

In addition to the players ability you need to look at the other stats, proven in the Premiership, yes they both are, both have scored over 20 goals a season for the 2 seasons Berbatov has been at WHL and Keane has over 200 career goals. Keane adds a lot more than just goals to a team, and his workrate is second to none, which is why Rafa wants him. Berba on his day can be exceptional, and SAF recognises this.

As for Spurs being pig **** and desperate I dont think thats the case. Jol wanted Bent because he saw him as Berbatov's replacement as he was expected to leave last summer, he didnt and therefore Bent had to be used as a sub, which if you read his many interviews he was well aware of that role before he joined.

It doesnt change the fact, you paid too much and were desperate.
I dont know who was supposed to be signing Berbatov last year, but it wasnt United

As for Shevchenko everybody thought he was overpriced, not by a little, but about £25 million as his ankles are shot to pieces and were at the time they bought him, he isnt lazy, he cannot physically play the game he used to, Carrick was regarded and is regarded as having one of the best passing games in the league, who was saying it was too much?

Both players ARE massively overpriced, no matter how much you jump up and down and scream otherwise, as for the inaccuracies in post, its a throwaway post quoting a figure frank mentioned, but just for the record, all sources i can find say £15 million pounds of Bents fee was payable over three years not dependent on performances, but the basic cost, £1.5 million is payable in performance related bonuses to charlton.

£16.5 million - £1.5 million = £15 million.
£1.5 million as a percentage of £16.5 million = is a little under 9% of the transfer fee.
Definition of majority- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majority

The fact that I am a Spurs fan makes no difference to the way my response was made, and I am not bitter in any sense. As for the failings of my club, yes there are many, but the one in which you mentioned is not one of them. Had you gone on about how we were tipped to challenge for 4th and only finishing 11th then you would have a point about failings as a club.

Again, Spurs were not desperate when they signed Bent. He was being courted for a long time. We signed him believing Berbatov was on his way, and I do not recall suggesting it was Utd that were going to buy him, although you certainly were after him last year.

At the time we still had Defoe so we were hardly desperate to sign a striker, it was an addition the then manage (Martin Jol) considered a good option, however, the new manager has decided otherwise, along with the majority of the other signings MJ made. However, as a Utd fan you wouldn't know about poor signings.

On the Carrick arguement, there are plenty of people who dont rate him, and if you ask Nokkon I am sure he can advise you of the number of times he has defended Carricks ability as a player.

As for maintaining Berbatov and Keane are over priced, thats your opinion but feel your probably in a minority.
