All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Latest Spurs rumours:

- Arshavin signed, subject to a medical
- Bentley eventually signed for £12mil plus Robbo
- Fee agreed for Pavlyuchenko

I'll believe it when I see them holding a Spurs shirt though. :)

Don't really want Arshavin as I don't feel he is good enough. He hasn't proven himself enough, 2 good games at the Euro's and a good UEFA Cup Final isnt enough. Would rather we saved the cash and purchased a DMC with it.

Bentley looks likely to be a Spurs player at some point during the season, just a matter of time and money offered.

As for Pavvy, he looks good, knows where the goal is, and as long as his fee is less than the cash we get for Berba then wont be too bad.

Just need a DMC now.

After the fan site claiming they made up the quotes Levy has had to create a new dossier:

Not aimed at you, but I wonder how much United paid their Norweigen friends to advise they made up the quote.

I haven't heard anything about Zokora leaving and anything about a new DMC being linked with us. It's worrying. :(

I don't think Zokora is leaving, but I have heard that Ramos doesn't rate him highly enough, not tall enough and physical enough apparently.

What he does have though is a lot of energy, if only we could mould him and Huddlestone together.

Robbie Keane was left out of the Spurs squad for last nights friendly, reports from Spurs fans out in Spain are that he is due to fly to Liverpool today for a medical.

I would like to remind Spurs fans of how unhappy Crystal Palace are for the way that Tottenham stole John Bostock from their academy. Crystal Palace ended up recieving a tiny amount of money that is nowhere near what John Bostock is worth.

Think the guy needs to do his home work.

Bostock was not contracted to Palace when we approached him, which like any player who is within the last 6 months of a deal, or not signed to a professional contract we are entitled to do.

Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool sign foreign youngsters the same way all the time.

Jordan and CP are P****d because they turned down the offer we made when he was contracted and demanded £5m and the tribunal told us to pay £700k, in the transfer, Spurs did nothing wrong.

In fact, Jordan was annoyed with Spurs, but with Bostock and his father for going back on their word, and the tribunal for passing their fee ruling.

Keane is not better than Villa by a long shot. I do like him as a player but I just can't see him playing at the highest level (by that I mean league challengers)

Should fit in well at Liverpool then, they are hardly league challengers are they.

As for Villa being better than Keane, it depends which way you look at it.

Villa is probably better than Keane in La Liga because he is proven there, whereas Keane is better than Villa in the Premiership because he is proven there.

At International level Keane is Irelands alltime top scorer with 33 goals which out does Villas records for a far superior side with only 18 goals.

Daniel Levy is stiring it up again, is this guy really doing anyone elses head in at the moment? After slating us for creating a media hype and tapping up Berbatov... he's now saying he didn't approve of the Keane/Liverpool transfer and that Rafa was tapping him up.
QUOTE]

He didnt agree with the transfer, whats wrong with that? At the end of the day Levy said he didnt want to sell Keane but his hands were tied.

Liverpool were tapping him up, they made a public apology for the way they went about their business and compensated Spurs for that (an admission of guilt). As a result of their tapping up Keane submitted a transfer request, therefore Levy decided to sell him and build a team from players who want to play at WHL.

I dont consider him coming out and explaining why he had to sell Keane to the fans and giving his opinion of the move as any different to any other manager or chairman publically coming out and slating other clubs for their pursuit of players (ala Utd).

How many strikers do spurs have left? Are they going to play with 4 in def and rest in mid?

We only have 2 first team forwards at the moment and they are Bent and Berbatov, but as someone mentioned below both are being linked with moves, yet I can only see Berbatov leaving out of the two.

Ramos wants to play with one striker next season and it seems to be how he is lining up in pre-season with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 formation being used.

As for strikers, we have, like every year been linked with everyone under the sun, so far this summer I can recall Eto'o, Villa, Van Nistelrooy, Luis Garcia, Santa Cruz, Forlan, Pavlyachenko, Arshavin (although I class him more of a midfielder), Podolski and Crouch as potential new front men.

However, in all honesty I can only see the two Russians being realistic arrivals, and Arshavin only if the asking price is made more realistic and his wage demands half.

Ireland has it's own Government and is totally independent from Britain. Those from Ireland are Irish. Simple stuff really. You go to Dublin on a Saturday night and tell someone walking past he is British. Your views will soon be changed.

Wales and Scotland have their own governments but they are still part of Britain. The people from Wales are Welsh, and those from Scotland Scottish but again, they are still part of Britain.

What the hell is Wenger doing? Why have we not signed anyone since Nasri, or not been linked to anyone seriously? It's a joke. I have a bad feeling Wenger is going to go in to next season with pretty much the players he's got now and that'd be a huge mistake and I can't believe the guy NEVER seems to learn from his mistakes. Never thought I'd say this but if we don't win something next season I think it's time for him to go.

Got to hand it to Spurs, they are doing all the right things this Summer. Losing Keane is a huge blow, but they've signed a world class goalkeeper, they've got a promising young talent in Dos Santos, Modric is a great player and just the kind of playmaker they've needed for years and it looks like they're about to sign Bentley, a player that was fantastic last season and could be brilliant for them. And finally, they are in talks with Arshavin! They may be saying a deal is 'way off' but I reckon they'll get him, for some bizarre reason there doesn't seem to be much interest in him from anyone else, including ourselves. And I'm still really plssed off that we never even made a move for Woodgate when he was available, when fit he is one of the best CBs in the world, and for me he and King make up the second best CB partnership in the league. Craps all over Toure and Gallas, which by the way is a complete joke and I think it's actually laughable it seems Wenger is going to go in to another season with them two as first choice. The guy never learns despite the glaring problems with these two as a partnership being there for all to see the last two seasons. We'll win NOTHING with them two at CB next season.

Thank god that we have the two best fullbacks in the league otherwise our backline would be painful to watch.

Bare minimum we need another goalkeeper, a no nonsense CB to be first choice alongside Gallas and a mature replacement for Flamini. Won't hold my breath though.

Firstly and Arsenal fan making positive comments about Spurs, that doesn't happen often.

As a Spurs fan I am happy with the transfer dealings to date at WHL. Whilst I am disappointed we have lost Robbie Keane I can understand his reasons for wanting to join his boyhood heroes and wouldn't stand in the way of any player wanting to play for their team.

However, once you look at it, his sale has paid for dos Santos and Modric, which you would expect given their talents that they will strengthen the team and give us more options than Keane could. However, they are unproven in the Premiership, and thats where it could take time to turn fruitful. That said, Gio has looked very good in pre-season and looks to have settle excellently, and I am hoping they settle as well as Torres did and not like Shevchenko.

If Berbatov goes I will be a little more concerned if a replacement isnt sought, even though Ramos wishes to play 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 as its known. The reason being is that although we have Bent, we do not have another striking option, and Bent wont last a full season and Europe without a rest. I would expect a new striker to come in even if Berbatov doesnt leave this summer, as he will go before the season ends, even if he doesnt want to. I feel Ramos has had enough of him.

For me to be really happy, we need a DMC and a DC to come in, however good King and Woodgate are, they cannot last a full season, King especially, as for DMC it is being rumoured Veloso is a target.

Now, turning to Arsenal. I don't rate Gallas, but Toure does look good, I couldnt help but laugh when Wenger came out and said you dont need any defensive players, as like many Arsenal fans, I dont think Senderos is good enough.

It will be an interesting season for Arsenal. There is no doubt Wenger is a class act, but buying youth isnt going to bring instant success. Its been trophyless for 3 seasons now, and rumours that a 4th could mean more big name departures. The two signings made Nasri and Ramsey arent instant successes, and you are blooding Vela into the first team, and although I could be proved wrong, I cannot see them rectifying where last season went wrong, especially when two players, Flamini and Hleb have also departed.

Suppose Bent is a decent target man. Scored another hat trick last night, shame his goals have been against mediocre clubs yet all Spurs supporters will think he's the real deal now :D

Hes by no means the real deal yet, but if he goes into the season as Spurs 1st choice striker he will get 20 goals this season. As for pre-season, the opponents are generally irrelevant, its all about building the fitness, getting confidence and allowing new players to gel together.

Not one single team has played any really competitive and demanding friendlies yet. Liverpool would have been the first last night had it not been Villareals 1st friendly a week after they returned from pre-season.

From a strikers perspective they use pre-season to find the net and build their confidence up for the start of the season. So far Bent has his 7 in 2 games and 9 in 4 for us pre-season to date.

you'd rather he take the approach of other clubs that go into massive debt just to pay wages and still end up trophy-less?

i agree we need another quality CB and a quality holding midfielder but it wouldn't surprise me to see another couple of signings before the deadline.

Arshavin will be a flop, 27 still playing in a mediocre league with sporadic performances for £20M......spurs are welcome to get mugged imo.

injuries by and large killed us last season and we still came very close, don't write off wenger just yet.

Obviously your using Spurs as your example of going into debt and having another trophyless season. May I remind you that we aren't in debt and taking into consideration the transfers this season we have only actually spent out £15m and that was on Bentley, the rest of the signings have been paid for by sales.

As for Arshavin, until he signs no-one knows if he will be a flop or not, but atleast our management havent come out and said that we need to sell 1 star player a season to allow us to buy replacements like they have at the Emirates this season, where I'll remind you that they are going into their 4th season without silverware.

Or maybe one for him, one for his man servant??

On a serious note i think Vela is going to be great this season and Bentner also for Arsenal. They both have fantastic ability and should progress, not that i can see many crosses for headers from Arsenal's play.

Spurs will be lucky if Arshavin has a good season, cant see it personally, big boots to fill... Where on earth do Spurs get cash from? Tiny stadium, crap revenues and it cant be the Jews year in year out (no offence meant at all, but they have jewish support and backers)

Firstly, Vela does look like a decent player, but he is young and until the season starts it is not known how he will perform. Along with dos Santos the Premiership has South Americas two best prospects.

As for where do we get our cash from, we have a chairman who has a very good business brain and the fact we make profit every year proves that. The cash we have spent this year is not excessive, with the majority of it being recouped with players leaving.

Also, the fact that the board is made up of a fair number of billionairs and our owners ENIC are owned by one of the richest men in Britain probably helps.

Spanish champions Real Madrid have completed the signing of Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from German side Hamburg for £7.1m. A potential blow for Cristiano Ronaldo, perhaps? (Spanish radio Cadena Ser, 1031 BST)

7.1m??? How in heck did they manage that?

Makes keane look very overpriced now.

Van der Vaart was in the last year of his contract and he told Hamburg he had no interest in signing a new deal. The £7.1m was the remaining value of his contract.

Interesting that Spurs are after Corluka, and if the rumours that he is having a medical today/tomorrow I was surprised to see him playing 45 mins for City tonight against Celtic.

Surely if we wanted him, and he was at medical stage, we wouldn't allow it?

The Corluka saga continues, apparently Spurs have a confirmation fax from the Home Office or whoever acknowledging receipt of their request for a Work Permit for Corluka. (*Posted by an ITK on another forum).

Surely City are not going to be able to get out of this one and Corluka will be moving to WHL. It will be interesting to see what Hughes does if it is forced through, he has threatened to walk over the deal.

Reports coming out from the PL that Man City officials didnt sign the transfer documents and therefore there is no argument in the Corluka deal, and it is officially off.

The Ireland move is a different story.
